the site is a complete mess... I dont know if the prize of $10000 is for SC2 only, could not find the info.

I found 3 different schedules:

http://www.aldeadigital.com/index.php/horario-actividades/menu-id-361.html
http://www.aldeadigital.com/index.php/horario/
http://www.aldeadigital.com/index.php/juegos/juegos.html

Sorry, I think I made you become even more confused lol

Better talk to Fenix, because the site is a mess.

Ok... I live there... and yes, the site is a mess.... it seems its going to be 2 different tournaments. One is going to be OPEN for 32 players, organized by AldeaDigital (they have scheduled inscriptions for this tourney), and it's prices are going to be:

1. Nvidia GTX 580 + kit 3D Vision
2. Nvidia GTX 460
3. Game pack Metro 2033 y HAWX

The other is by Invitation (I just got my invitation a few days ago)... organized by GameGune, 64 players and the prices are going to be:

1º 10.000 USD
2º 5.000 USD
3º 2.500 USD
4º 1.250 USD

But it's not clear... not confirmed... and I'm afraid it's going to be a mess. Which is a shame considering the prize pool.

Anyway... I knew about TT1 and Fenix comming... I don't think they will have much problem taking the tourney, since most of the players are casuals (like myself) and play mostly on LA servers.

I love the idea of having a nice tourney in my country, since nobody really cares about eSports here and just a few ppl know about this event... I really really hope something good could result from this, but promotion has been awful, communication with players was limited to "yes, you are going to play"... no rules, no brackets, no public player list, no communication at all with media.

Oh well... it's going to be nice to meet TT1... hope to see some of you there.

Well, that's ballsy of you, TT1. Not because of the recent violence in Mexico (since Mexico City hasn't been hit by it so far) but because of how sketchy the whole thing looks. Also, its main (only?) sponsor is rather monopolistic and historically crooked. Still, I did find more info on Gamegune: it seems they've held a couple of big CS tourneys in Mexico City, the last one won by EG in September. Maybe they can tell you more.

yea well our management team told us that theyve dealt with gamegune already and that theyre reliable, just meeting the players alone is going to be a fun experience, having a well runned tournament would be the icing on the cake.. but who knows : D

is it $10,000 USD or pesos? I heard about 1 tournament offering $10,000 but it was in pesos, so it was about $1000 in USD O_O!

It's $10k USD (btw, 10k pesos are less than 800USD not 1k)

Here you can see some videos from last year:

http://www.sk-gaming.com/content/26148-More_SKali_GameGune_videos

And it seems nobody is complaining about it, so I think GameGune is reliable.

Yeah I'll be there and participating. There aren't big names since almost no promotion existed but some of the players are 200 from the LA region (which isn't a big achievement):

http://us.battle.net/sc2/es/blog/1287265#blog

It's 10,000 USD

i'll make an analogy for you.

there is this place called earth, it is sectioned into 7 continents and like 200++ countries. now imagine that there is a country that has a cartel in it (mexico). now imagine this country has become extremely corrupt by the cartel and people fear they are endangered of getting shot and don't wana drink bad water.

now imagine:
earth = sc2
continents = map settings like space, jungles, etc
countries = maps
mexico = a bad map
cartels = corruptors
corruption = corruptors using corruption
bad drinking water = bad space water.
fear...shot = losing a game

mexico = IRL sc2, it is srs business bro.

on a serious note, gl fenix/tt1 free cash money practically.

Are you high?... I don't know if I should feel offended... indeed I didn't even understand that...
No, seriously, are you high?

On a side note... I was expecting to see more people from USA/CA since the trip to Mexico City is not that expensive and the prize pool is nice, and not really hard to take out (no EU, no KR).

Indeed I've been told... that it seems there is not enough people to fill the 64 slots for the tourney. So, you still have time to come.

It's gonna be fun anyway.

that big of a prize pool and nothing? seems very bad! They should have published this somewhere so more players can participate. What could they possibly lose from that? well >_<

Yeah, this is dangerously bad. I hope the organizers don't do something shady like reduce the prize money because of the bad turnout.

A question to Mexican TL community: was this well reported in the LA scene, it seems like this kind of prize money should have been enough to get South America's best to come up and play. Not to mention that from the list TT1 posted I don't even recognize old Mexican BW names. Like, isn't BroL playing? and what about that guy that went to the Blizzard invitational in Brazil? The only guy i recognize besides Jian and Payam is Warlinker from Guatemala.

end of the year when all team's budgets are spent = bad
NO ANNOUNCEMENT and bad advertisement = bad

Huge prize, nice city and great location going to waste imo. TT1/Fenix are fighting for who gets richer. Shame too cause it could spurn future tourneys of this magnitude in mexico.

Have no idea what they were thinking not making this much more publicly known // having this held at a time that isn't at the end of the year (December is uniquely bad).

Yes, GameGune is a mess, i found out about it searching Latin SCII forums, and as TT1 says the info is confusing and very well hidden. Im not sure why they didnt advertise at all, maybe they wanted to keep the prize for themselves? :D. We've had bad experience with tournaments here in Mexico the last tournament i heard of was a mess in the organizing the brackets where confusing and somehow nobody knew who where they playing, and at what round where they (They ended up with 2 3rd places in a direct elimination tournament, and 2 place lost in the semifinals or something like that)
I'm going but im keeping my eyes open

e-Sports or anything tech-related is not particularly big in Mexico.
The organizers probably didn't want to burn any extra money at unnoticed advertisement.

I also wouldn't count it as a free win for TT1 or Fenix just yet, for that same reason. Players in Mexico are not likely to travel and compete to competitions like MLG or DreamHack/GSL across the globe, but that doesn't mean they're automatically bad.

Obviously it would be a mistake to assume its free money. TT1 and Fenix are sure favored, but still underestimating the competition is always bad

Well almost every event on Mexico for gaming never gets any exposure... lmao i found out about wcg 2010 2 days after it hapend because someone put the results hir on TL.net.... Yes the price are nice and it would be awesome to have you guys come(even to i can't make it there im still pretty far...) Its will take some time for the gaming to grow in mexico ppl still thinks games are for kids(i mean my mother stills tells me when im going to spend my time in something better(im 21....) ppl just don't see gaming as something good... ad stupid news about kids killing and dying because of the games...(pisses me of how ppl can buy everthing the stupid news say).

I hope you guys have a really good experience, by the way i know a couple of the guys you will be playing against(TheBeto) i used to play vs this guy in SC:BW he was as bad as me(D+ to C- Iccup) and i don't really think he has improve that much on sc2... so i think it would be a super upset if you guys don't take 1 and 2 places.

Everyone in sc2 improved, its just the way you play it. Nothing is wrote yet, anything can happen i'll recommend to TT1 and Fenix, do not understimate your opponents they can always come with something unexpected.

Should be fine dude.

Just don't make eye contact with anyone.
Don't ever EVER put your hands in your pockets. People think you are carrying a weapon.
Walk fast but not so fast people detect fear. Fear is like blood in shark infested water in mexico.
Always carry at least a knife but probably a sawed off shotgun.
Have you ever been shot?
Don't drink the water.
Don't ever shake someones hand. They aren't doing that to greet you.
Sleep on your back. If you can, sleep in a chair. Put your pillows under the sheets and wait.
Never stand in one place for more than 30 seconds.
When you walk zig-zag and change your pace constantly.
Smell that? Yup, run.

If you follow those simple guidelines you should be fine unless you stay more than 2 days.

Gamegune has organised events before. I still remember they organised CS tournaments in Spain like 5+ years ago or so. So since they still exist it must mean that the organisation is quite decent for lasting this long unless this isn't that same organisation that organised CS events?

I'm feeling very tempted to go but the $45ish entry fee is what is turning me down. I would love to meet high caliber players like OldJack, TT1 and Fenix but I also would like to do well in the tournament and don't feel I'm ready enough.

Mexico city is a safe place, if you don't go to some neighborhoods (wich you won't if you just go to game gune ) you'll be fine. The really dangerous places in Mexico are far from mexico city so don't worry.

Heck, I'd be pretty scared of going to Mexico City too........ not really If you're really worried, then just keep a low profile and you shouldn't have any problem.

I'm curious about how competitive the tournament will be, if possible, could you save some replays?

Mexico City is alright. It's a pretty bustling place, much like Guadalajara. I think the northern parts of Mexico are the ones you want to steer clear of. Are you traveling via Airplane or Bus? Please don't keep any valuables in your bags if you check anything. Best to go with just a carry on. Everyone is friendly/funny and you should enjoy yourself Just pretend that they aren't laughing at the foreigner who can't speak Spanish ^^

Edit: orite. What iNcontroL said about the water is correct. If you order drinks, try to get the canned form, or if it's in a glass, without ice. Good thing there is always Agua Ciel :D

I hear that south of the border they call iNcontroL El Oso Gigante. He's a famous drug lord down there, so he obviously doesn't want TT1 to come and steal his turf. Remember that tournament Day9 won down in Mexico? It was just a front for El Oso Gigante's money laundering.

There are more than 24 million people living and working here, obviously the crime is in proportion to a city as big as this (believe me, its really really big).

As the country is right now... it's the safest place.

No, it wasn't well reported here... really few knew about this, and just got some mentions on LA forums and fan sites. But not promotion at all, and even their website is wrong... is not an Open Tournament... you had to send them your profile in order to get an invitation (to pay your $45usd inscription ).

The guy playing in Brasil (ChavoDelOcho) is going to be there too.

LOL I live in mexico, and all players suck balls in all honesty, I didn´t even know about this tournament, had known, I would´ve went and probably take it down!

though there are a couple players right there that know the tl.net community and that stuff, so they will try some cheeses for sure, specially a guy I know from that list!

But im all about supporting teamliquid so TT1 or fenix if you wanna know some stuff let me know via pm or w-e.

goodluck!

TT1 you got it down with fenix

Well, I live in Mexico City and I can tell you --not that isn´t obvious-- that the scene in here is almost non-existent, so I hope this tourney goes well and can be the firsts steps to the growht of it. I know it has a potential audience, but, I also think that the organizers don´t put faith on the internet anouncements, therefore, no one knows about this.

Well, Hopefully i wil attend to the finals and see how it goes.

I live 5 minutes away from the complex, suggestion, get there early, there is going to be a lot of traffic.
GL.
I checked the website and it's really a mess, I can't understand it, different information and it's a shame, because there's like no lans in Mexico ever.

Btw are they using the LA servers or the US servers?

Uhm I see Cloud is going. Is it THE Cloud, as in the famous european player Cloud, getting second recently in ESL german?

Just wondering, since no one has mentioned him. I believe he played BW aswell, so it surprises me that TT1 dosn't know him. But hell, the NA scene didnt really know Naama....

This is Azka reporting from Mexico... I just got here (Aldea Digital)... saw Fenix.... haven't seen TT1 yet, but it's too early.

I don't think they are going to announce the results of first 2 days. I heard there were some forfeits yesterday. Probably some got scared or were afraid to pay the $45usd ($500 pesos) if they don't have any chance to win... don't know... I'm really happy I'll play TTone (i'm gonna be his first match)... he's going to destroy me badly... but it will be fun... I'll enjoy it

The event (Aldea Digital) looks awesome... the complex is really nice, you have a nice view of the Hippodrome behind it.... GameGune both is cute, and it seems everything is well organized (so far... remember I just got here).

I'm gonna take some pictures/videos... will try to post them later.

Btw, we'll play in NA servers, not LA.
You play to win
