Due to the recent earthquake in Japan, the offline finals were canceled. The finals will now be online. Due to the planned blackouts in the Kanto area the finals will now take place on April 30.
A few weeks ago I posted about the e-Sports Japan Championship in this thread. Starcraft II is one of the games that will have an offline finals alongside CoD: Black Ops and Super Street Fighter IV in the UDX Theater in Akihabara, Tokyo. There will be two qualifiers in which the top 4 players will go on to the group stage. Also 8 players are hand picked from the qualifier signups and are directly invited to go to the groups stage. The group stage will have 16 players divided into 4 groups. The top 2 players from each group advances to the finals.

Wouldn't the plane ticket to get to japan cost more than 1st place prize?

if you were planning to go to japan anyway it would be nice to pick up prize money and tour around

Wow nice prizes! GL HF
Hurray for more esports expansion and activity :D

Cool to see the SC-scene growing in Japan.

i thought sc2 wasnt sold in japan ?

So, ThreeO is not participating. Maybe he is not in Japan currently? It would be great see a good Zerg player from Korea playing with gamers from Taiwan, US, and Japan(nearly global as GSL,isn't it?) so it is somewhat disappointing. Still, it is really good to see Japanese SC2-scene is actually growing.
Maybe we can see some Japaness players paticipating in GSL and other big Leagues in near future, which will be really cool.

Since SC:BW scene was so small in Japan disregarding Blizzard's huge effort in localization, it is somewhat reasonable that they don't even bother about Japan this time.
|
Wow I didn't know there is a SC2 scene in Japan.

If anyone wants to cast some of the games I'll ask the guys at CyAC if it would be alright. I also might ask if I can get some of the replays.
The non-SC2 tournaments are being streamed live at Nico Nico Douga so I think it would be the same for SC2. Apparently, you need a premium account if you want to see VODs of live shows and a regular account to watch it live (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Akihabara !!! That place is awesome!
|
400$ is nice, but winning the full sc2 razer setup is freakin awesome 8) GL to all, how good exactly is the japanese scene anyways ? ? ??

Holy crap the stream quality is perfect, best i've seen.

Updated OP with the list of players invited to the group stage as well as the list of participants for the second qualifier. You may notice that some of the invited players are registered for the qualifier but disregard that as they were invited after they signed up.

Anyways, will the live event be streamed as well? I'd really like to get a look at the scene in Japan.

Damn, I wish I could watch this but the stream for me is laggy as hell Anyone know if there will be VoDs?
(and the commentators are super quiet, I have everything pumped at 100% and can barely hear them )
e: vvv I should clarify, the video is choppy but the audio is fine. I can hear the commentators but the video doesn't move.

Stream quality is great for me, no lag at all (I am in Europe). Commentator's voice is a bit low though.

Updated the OP with the top 4 players from the 2nd qualifier who qualified for the group stage.

nice to see esports growing in nihon

I'm wondering why is the qualifier shown to be On Air at the sidebar when its ended a while ago.
|
Oh, I didn't even know about this... if I had of I would've tried playing in it. I doubt I'd get very far, but it'd be fun to play in a competition for once.
|
This is coming up soon, yay! Just stumbled across the thread randomly after a discussion about whether or not a SC2 scene exists in Japan. I sure hope this helps! A lot of awesome gamers in Japan. Any new news on the tournament?

I think tournament is still a go as the stream on http://cyac.jp/en/tv is up. As how this will affect competitors or spectators, I don't know.

Apparently I fail at searching the forum. I searched for CyAC before I made the post but nothing came up so I thought no one made a post about it yet. Oops.
Tournament was canceled from what matsujun told me.

I'll update the thread on any news on the status of the JEC.
Its pretty disappointing that the earthquake came so close to the day of the tournament. Reportedly the tickets for the JEC were sold out. Hopefully the friends and families of the everyone in the Japanese gaming community are safe.

You should go to http://starcraft2.game-server.cc/sc2/ and look at their events calendar. Also check out the WIPLeague.

@crackspider tnx for the link..., ill prolly check it sometime..., as u can imagine things here are pretty much tense..., even in places far away from the epicenter, because of the nuclear plant going down.., electricity will be distributed on a time-based system... nothing really much on that but it seems some of the japanese are panic-buying on supplies... i heard tokyo is sold out on basics like water batts and cup noodles... not sure but i think even the highways on some places are on lockdown..: guess all we can do is pray and hope for the best for the people who really is facing this catastrophe 1st hand... and God Bless all the people who wake up in the morning trying to make a change...
