Listen to the SOTG podcast about the chairs. They basically said the logistic is so complex and planned months ahead of time and it also involves the Unions that even the act of adding a few benches can be deemed dangerous and can lead to the event being cancelled. They basically underestimated the impact that SC2 will have when they decided to add the game into their program.

I'm sure next year they will give Starcraft 2 the treatment and attention it deserves. For now, lets thank MLG for a wonderful tournament.

5RR would of crushed BoxeR in GSL too, right?

As for HuK and crew, don't think flying to korea is going to make them 10x better or something. They will get better ofc, but to say they will surpass idra is dumb. Same level? Sure, with time.

From the games we've seen, we can easily say some of these guys are already at Idra's level. Idra lost to Select when he could have won. Cut some mutas, make banelings and he would've won. I cringed when he lost the bulk of his army while marines were trapped in a corner and he had nothing but mutas and some lings if I'm not mistaken. He saw what Select was doing and instead of getting banelings he kind of ignored it and hoped his Mutas would do it all for him. We all saw how that worked out. Go check out the game against HuK and you'll see that HuK is capable of taking him out as well. HuK was even being contained at one point and still came from behind to win.

Joe, no no, you have it all wrong. Fa1nT was really into SC1 therefore he knows all about SC2. I mean, "5RR would have crushed BoxeR" is a really relevant response. Because using 5RR to combat a teching opponent is the exact same thing as using it to combat a non-teching opponent.

IdrA should just use the same strategy every game until he discovers the mythical "safe-build" that can handle any counter at any time. And, if the build doesn't work, it's a balance issue.

Sorry Fa1nT, you're totally right dude. Thanks for the contribution to the thread. I bow in the presence of such brilliance.

idras overrated, the real one who has shown massive potential really is Ret.
idra seems to think he's figured out the perfect way to play zerg. That might be to maximise his army size (macro) but doesn't seem to adapt in game too well. Mechanics are great to have but if you have Nazgul's strategy crushing it then you know you have to rework many things. SeleCT seems to be a BEAST lately. I really like the dedication he's putting in and the careful forethought of playing the games.

IT was funny to see the bootcamp of the liquid guys to crush idra and the least likely Nazgul taking him out.

I want Tyler to take this though! I think for the first time the losers bracket is far more interesting than the winners bracket!

Unless Dallas regulations are somehow 1000x more strict than they are in Houston, all they would have had to do was ask the Hilton for more chairs, honestly.

It's easy for them to say oh it was logistics et al but no, i don't buy it and I don't think anyone else should, it hasn't ruined the event but they shouldn't get a bye after DC.

Fool me once shame on you...

And come on, Machine is the real story this tournament IMO, the crowd was alive during his games vs Select.

The hilton is a huge facility, there was absolutely ZERO reason not to ante up for a few dozen more chairs, I worked at a hotel for 2 years that was a fraction of the size of the anatole and every conference had hundreds of chairs per room. I have literally seen small business meetings have more seating than this.

I am a huge fan of MLG and love the events, the casting, production value, and player pool are the best I've seen at a tourney and there are so many fans cheering it's seriously amazing, but to not plan this better is absolutely inexcusable.

Chairs aren't allowed MLG says. Because you will people have who grab them and move them. The firefighters or something can close the event.

Ret is going to crush the shit out of everyone now and win, he will be best foreign zerg soon and do well in Korea.

You can argue that he already is the best foreign zerg. Yea Idra is good mechanically, but SC2 isn't all about mechanics...

As much as I'm a fan of Idra, I can't say he's the best Zerg. He's just way too stubborn and never adjusts his builds to win. He's just thinks he can Macro all the time and win like that. Blink Stalkers three times in a row, Idra? You really lost to that? =/ He could have defended it especially since he knew it was coming all 3 times. Force fields also tear him apart. Just saw a match of him vs HuK (Husky casted it) and even though he saw HuK's Colossus, he didn't make any Corruptors. Roach, Hydra, Ling vs Gateway units, 5 colossus and force fields is not good for a Zerg at all, but he engaged and HuK's mass force fields owned him.

Your criticism is very similar to FruitDealer's analysis of IdrA's play during GSL 1 interviews. He said: IdrA is a very good macro player but he has no all-in style. This will hold him back.

Five roach rush would have crushed the blink build and, since he knew the build was coming, he could and should have adapted.

But IdrA's been better than any Western player for so long that his weaknesses didn't matter. Now that other guys are flying to Korea and upping their game, the reason he was never anything other than a B-teamer is being exposed.

Strikes me that the future great foreign hopes are going to be guys like HuK, TLO, Ret, SeleCT. Guys that can adapt AND have the work ethic.

TLO was dumped pretty unceremoniously in the first round of GSL this year, and I can't help but think the same would happen to Huk, Ret and Select in their first few attempts.

Jinro hasn't even qualified for the GSL yet, and his play in this MLG has proven that he's no pushover.

Of all the foreigners, I think TLO, beta-White Ra and KiwiKaki actually have the most potential, for their unique play styles, relatively solid macro and willingness to all-in.

I'm a huge IdrA fan, but you're right, his lack of variation in his builds, or "all-in plays" has made him pretty predictable. On the one hand, his emphasis on mechanical skill has made his defense and macro extremely solid. On the other hand, by never threatening to all-in he is basically daring his opponents to test his mechanics over and over again, rather than making them worry about their own defense.

Has anyone seen the recent replay where IdrA lost to a Protoss, that just built a nexus at his natural after his first pylon? As long as IdrA consistently sets up for the long game, he will always be suspectible to these type of high risk/high reward strategies.

That's my noob two cents, anyway.

Eh, but two of them down there were eliminated by each other!

Just bad luck with the brackets I think there.

Yes, there were some sad moments with our players knocking each other out.

I'm definitely proud of Jinro, he's played as well as we knew he could.

Who buys this, seriously? Chairs aren't allowed at a a gigantic conference center, get real. I challenge anyone to walk into any other conference room at the Hilton and tell me there aren't chairs there.

It's laughable that someone would believe that. MLG tried to save money by using the few benches they brought with them instead of renting some from the venue, that's exactly what occurred.

Fire marshals, really, did none of you see the halo setup? With cramped stations next to each other, 8 monitors and xbox a piece and 8 chairs literally touching each other with little room to move, in an area that is surrounded by crowd control barriers, and yet a bunch of chairs is somehow more threatening.

I guess a gaming tourney has different rules regarding chairs. But I agree they should've rented some benches there.

That's the right match - I think it is the difference between IRL time and Starcraft time.

Anyway, I just posted in the other thread, but I'm posting here as well:

Uh, guys, I just noticed something huge.

LiquidRet vs LiquidJinro was playing at the same time as LiquidTyler vs PainUser.

Guess what map they played on (and the match wasn't cancelled):

http://media.mlgpro.com/brackets/10/procircuit/dallas/sc2/open/matches/6687.html
"LiquidJinro vs LiquidRet
Map: Lost Temple
"

http://www.sc2replayed.com/replays/101220-1v1-terran-zerg-lost-temple

That means out of the 4 matches being played at the same time, half of them started on Xel'Naga Caverns (the right map), and half of them started on Lost Temple.

Out of that second half, only Tyler's game was canceled.

Well budgets have been set/spent. Nothing you can do now, but wait for next season and hopefully they'll have more benches.
