Not to mention the prize money that i have to wait for 1 year or more. Having played in many of over 200 cups for the past two years, you should know by now how the Go4SC2 cup check-in system works:
Sign up: Any time up to 20 minutes before the cup; this is usually possible for more than a week Check-in: Players that signed up in advance, can 20 to 10 minutes before the cup Late check-in: Anyone can sign-up and check-in to take the [b]remaining places[b] in the cup
The early sign up and check-in period give us an idea of how many players are going to check-in, which tells us how big to make the bracket.
Check-in is the tough part: when the numbers are close to the size of the bracket we always have a hard decision within minutes to decide whether to go for the next size up, but we do not do that unless we have the feeling that we will have enough players to make it worthwhile, otherwise the first round has many default wins, confused players, and players that check-in then have to wait 30+ minutes for their first match because they went straight to round two, which is a bad experience.
For example last week: if I remember correctly, around 16:40 there were around 160 or more early sign ups. At 16:50 there were around 100 checked in. To go to 256 or not? I waited, refreshing constantly. At 16:54 it was 127, it took a minute for the last player to come in. We could have gone to 256, but then maybe had 10 extra players, at the cost of an ugly first round. Today was 107 at 16:50, so we had to think about the same stuff, and after last week's experience, we leant towards staying again. It is frustrating to shut out maybe 20 more players, but we have to weight that against the experience of the other 100+ players that signed up early and checked in on time.
That is why we make efforts to advertise the cup as much as possible, telling people to sign up early, and then reminding them again to check-in on time (usually an email is sent to all early sign ups reminding them to check-in on time)
About prize money: We're sorry that for the past few months Go4SC2 has been behind in prize money, but we are now almost completely up to date (everything up to and including the May 2012 finals is paid). Please remember that Go4SC2 is unsponsored; it is purely money that comes from the ESL community (Premium) that pays for it.

I'd be really glad if you could explain things properly in normal conversation instead of banning people that put you in uncomfortable situations. And yes, I understand all the process you mentioned but the point is i signed up at like 16:00 and couldn't check in before 16:50.

You and the other two players were banned for being disruptive and offensive in the cup chat - while admins and players are trying to deal with the running cup - after being answered multiple times in the chat the core of what I said above: sign up early, check-in on time, we base the size of the cup on the players that sign up/check-in early.
Anyway, I'm sorry for the problems you and the handful of players had today, but what we did today is nothing different than we have done for the past 2 years of cups: base the size of the cup on the demand weighed against the negative consequences having the next size bracket has on the majority of players that checked-in on time.
We'll continue to try and push more people to sign up and check-in early so that we can have more space in the bracket!

Just saying, people cant 'early check-in' because the bracket is limited by you. Early check-in is :40 to :50, the cup was at 107 at :50, if we see that a cup is going to fill during early check-in - we're F5ing constantly to watch people checking in, and get a feel for how fast it's going and how full it could be - we increase the bracket, and hope it's worthwhile (and try to make extra efforts to spam to get more people in the cup). But if it doesn't, then we have to make a judgement call based on instinct and experience of whether it is worthwhile to double the bracket, at the cost of many players not having a match in the first round and having to wait an extra 30 minutes.
Today was painfully close to the the edge of whether or not to go to double the bracket. If there had been 5 more people at the end of check-in, maybe/probably would have gone with 256. 10 more people? Almost certainly.
How can you/other players help? Check-in early, and help promote the cup in advance so that more players sign up and check-in early, so then the cup is bigger and better for everyone.

The monthly rankings, for monthly finals qualification, are ordered first by your points earned in July, then by your overall Go4SC2 ranking points (here), which is also how Go4SC2 cups are seeded. Points degrade over time (hence the fractions)
Usually there will be one or two players that do not show up on the night of the finals, so you are first in line to take their space. You'll be contacted by email with more information on the day to remind you to be online available. The July finals are still to be scheduled!
