Korea really needs more tournaments for SC2, so many excellent players not qualifying. Would love to see PL-like league so we could see more games from Liquid players.

i believe we will see it happen soon, just need to give it some time. With the attention of such a huge prize pool and some of the greatest BW Celebrities of all time making the switch, it's only a matter of time.

i dont understand why people are so surprised when artosis doesnt make it in the tournament... i am by no means making this a bash-artosis post as i have nothing against the dude.... just never considered him more than a mediocre player... unless he has some accomplishment in sc2 i havent heard of?

I was under this impression as well, but when I rewatched his Ro64 games against NexFreeSaga, he's actually a very strong mechanical player with great multitasking skills. The only thing that will keep him out of many future GSLs is practice time.

Too bad about Jinro and Haypro, but they'll have luck on their side sooner or later. Both are too strong to be left on the outside looking in for too much longer.

How many games does a player have to lose overall to be eliminated from the qualifiers? Is it just a series of best-of-threes?

You have to beat something like 4 or 5 players in best of 3's to qualify.

So it's a long journey.
Losing even one of the best of 3's means you are out.

Thanks.

It might be prohibitive given the number of applicants, but it would be nice to see the qualifers expanded into round robin to account for strength of bracket. The organizers have almost certainly seeded the brackets to avoid having one big name eliminate another before the Ro64 even starts, but it's a shame that strong players have to sit out for a month due to a single Bo3.

I'm a bit worried, from what I've seen so far he hasn't been the powerhouse he once was. Imo he needs quite a bit more training...

[edit]

I don't understand the qualification process, can you explain further?
Is it just one opponent after the other as soon as the previous winner moves on to the next person?
It just doesn't seem like a fair way to adequatly find the best of the best...

This has been troubling me all day. It seems really counterproductive that the GSL is the only time koreans ever get to play actual games, when you see the huge smörgåsbord that the western players has to choose from.

purely coincidence. or purely lack of zerg players in general.. dont read into it, it doesnt mean anything at all, neither do any of the other 'lack of zerg' statistics that are so often seen. also pure chance that the 2 zerg who qualified happened to be 2 players very likely to make it very far into the tournament because of their high skill

I was / am expecting most UD players to play Protoss, hoping so anyhow.

have u ever played UD? UD is 100% zerg.

Race good at going one base, race with high strength units and fewer of them, race with summonable buildings which doesn't require the worker to stay working on the building?
The creep / blighted ground is the only zerg similarity, so I ask - have you ever played UD?

You mean Undead's with zerglings-ghoul, roach-fiend and muta-gargoyle harrass?
Yea, certainly nothing like zerg.

aside from wisp harass, gargoyles are nothing like mutas, aside from the fact that they shoot projectiles, roaches are nothing like fiends.

leaving out the fact that you take 3 units out of an arsenal of 15 or so and say that the races are similar. they don't play alike at all. which isn't that weird, since WC3 is a different game. not just like bw-sc2 different, but completely different.

yes, ghouls are like zerglings, but that's basically it.

there are many similarities between wc3 and sc2, but they're kind of mixed up. nightelfs buildings that can walk around is kind of like terran, but at the same time they have drone-like units that disappear when the building is built.

The guys who made WC3 were obviously BW developers for the most part and borrowed a lot of aspects from it.

Gargoyles are exactly like Moutas in SC2, not so much SC1.
And i dunno why you say i picked 3 units out of arsenal of 15. It's quiet obvious that Undead were based on Zerg from SCBW, and while they might not play like zerg now, they played out exactly like zerg when WC3 came out.

There might be some similarities but UD for example do not need to FE, ever in War 3 - if anyone needs to FE it's human or NE, then Orc the UD.
UD can one base the shit out of people, also their buildings are 'summoned' like Protoss.

There's elements of all 3 SC races in War 3 and elements of War 3 races in SC2, to out and out say that UD = Zerg though is just wrong.
