CyberGamer brings you the Mar Sara Trials, a SC2 Beta competition open to all Australian and New Zealand players who are registered members of CyberGamer.com.au and have a current SC2 beta account on the NA server.
Details
Date: Sunday 16th May (THIS SUNDAY)
Time: 10AM AEST (Syd, Bris, Melb)
Prizes: $200 [1st]; $100 [2nd]; $50 [3rd]
Format: Single elimination format (BO3) until The Grand Final and 3rd place matches, which will be BO5.
IRC: #CyberGamer on Gamersurge.
The number of rounds will be dependent on the amount of applications - expect at least 128 players. Games until RO32 will have single map rotation in the following order:
- R1 - Metalopolis
- R2 - Lost Temple
- R3 - Blistering Sands
- R4 - Kulas Ravine
- R5 - Steppes of War
- R6 - as R1 etc
The RO32 will have each player vote one (1) map off the above list leaving 3 maps to play. Each player will then vote 1 map down, leaving the starting map. The loser of game 1 selects the 2nd map to be played. If a score of 2-0 is reached a 3rd game will not be played.
The Final and 3rd/4th will see each player take turns voting down 2 different maps each. The remaining map will be the starting map. The loser of the previous game selects the next map. The first person to reach 3 wins will be declared match winner.
Remember, the event will start at 10am on Sunday 16th sharp and continue until completion so please make sure you are on time!
The CyberGamer StarCraft II Ruleset, under which the tournament will be run, will be posted on their forums soon. Know the rules or risk disqualification.

Always open to suggestions ftrunkz, this is really a trial comp for us as its our first sc2 competition. By sounds of it DO is going to be removed by public outcry lol.

I think CyberGamer always had pretty big plans for SC2 n_n I like to think that I spurred them into some action during beta though, proving that people were hungry for it!
Having said that, I gladly accept the title of legend.

We actually had no intention for a beta tournament at all until one of the head honchos of CG came to myself and Zior and said, "Here's $350 for a beta tournament make it happen"
We were all too happy to oblige

Really? You have the game 99% won, the other guy is hiding his buildings around the map and you happen to drop, and he'll get the free win from it?
Why can't we have the normal disconnection rules, where it's up to admin judgement - or at least the option for the opponent to offer a re-game.

Yeah, this was the only problem I saw with it. It was being discussed but nothing more seems to have come of it......

log into your account on website at https://us.battle.net/ or the Europe ones doesn't really matter, go "create or manage your account" click on manage for sc2 and it shows which version of the beta you have.

Sorry for the lame finls guys, I wasn't expecting to beat moonglade or anything but I never expected to play that bad :/ especially the last game
where the laptop was overheating it was just slaughter. Hopefully I can get involved and help with coverage for filuture events!

You would be surprised at how much skill wc3 takes, just because it isn't the ultimate macro game
doesn't mean it requires less skill than games that focus on that I think the reason we are seeing a lot of wc3 players do well in au/eu/kor/china (pretty much everywhere except the us) is because the user interface is much more wc3 esque and so those players are able to pick the game up faster, I reckon you will see the sc pros do a lot better after playing for a few months when everyone is on an even playing field.

I agree, and I started off playing and following WC3 I actually predicted from the start that WC3 players would be more dominant than the SC players expected.
