Winner's League Format:
+ Show Spoiler +each team will send out a single player to start (the starter). These two players will duke it out in a heads up 1v1 match. The winner will stay in, and the losing team will have to send a new player to face him. Each player has "one life" and can't be sent out again after losing. Once all of a team's players have been eliminated, they lose. Where did your name come from and what is the deep meaning behind it?
Long time ago in a galaxy far far away I was a newb. I Played Fastest maps on east with real life friends for years.
I never heard of or thought competitive gaming in scbw was even around. During these dark days I used the ID: LordZerg .. So then one day I finally noticed non$ maps was where the competition was at, so I switched and months down the road of me Learning a brand new game (it felt like) my account "LordZerg" got stolen on US EAST server in like beginning of 2005. So I changed my name to LzGaMeR so I would still feel like I would have a part of what use to define my ID. Even though it never actually stood for "LordZergGaMeR" it was just a reminder to where it all begain that breezy summer morning in scbw.
You stream frequently on teamliquid.net, how does it feel playing Starcraft 2 with hundreds of people watching? Does it motivate you more or make the losses feel worse?
Hah a little bit of both.. I try to come up with really entertaining builds and off the wall stuff to give people a good show!

What was the reason behind switching from starter? Last tournament you had 2 all kills in the starting position, even against strong teams like Cauthonluck's team, FauxFox.
We decided as a team that in each team tournament we would take turns in different positions in the lineup. So this week i'm batting cleanup!
What is different about playing in a winner's league style team cup versus individual tournaments?
I love the winner's league style for the fact it allows for the all-kill or reverse all-kill. It just add's so much more depth to competition

Changes to who you wish to be starter, team composition, or races played can be made as long as it is done in a timely manner before tournament Start. Don't expect to replace every player a minute before the tournament starts. Note: Registering does not guarantee a spot in the brackets

There will be preliminary match for some teams to gain a spot in the brackets to play on the streamed portion. This match will have to take place in advance of the tournament and be done in a timely manner. You will be in charge of getting with the other team to schedule and play this match. Report your results to me through a PM or posting the thread.
Each player must stick with the same race (or random) race picking will be allowed, for now, throughout the tournament once it has started. Also team composition can not change after the Start of the tournament (can't swap players around). If a player can not stay throughout, his absence will be counted as an instant loss whenever he would have played, and you will have to play 2 lives versus 3 lives (or in the case of 2 absences, with 1 life vrs 3 lives).
You must allow streaming of your match if it is asked and has not started yet.
In the event of a drop or disconnect: It will be based on review of replays by admin if both teams can not agree on a fair outcome. Only in the case of a clear definite advantage will a Win be awarded, or in the case it seems clearly intentional.
Non-streamed games can have observers if both teams agree to allow observers. So if one team doesn't want observers, you will have to respect their wishes and not observe your teammate's games.
Rule for the finals ONLY
This is to make the finals more epic, and to make it a best of 7 instead of best of 5.
At the end of the normal best of 5, when one team has been defeated. They may send out one of the previously defeated players. This is their last hope, and once he loses, they have lost. If he continues to defeat the remaining players of the enemy team, they may also send out one last player that was previously defeated for game 7.
This creates a best of 7, essentially 3 (+ 1) lives for each team.

It would speed up the beginning phases , 3 max games instead of 5. But obviously have the downside of less games for players. I am leaning heavily in favor of it at the moment but want some feedback.

If time is the issue then of course that would be the most rational solution. Only positive thing about it remaining the Best of 5 is that at the very least all 3 team members participate in a loss.

If its only 16 teams, then only first round like that.
Also, some background checks on teams if possible? Some of the first games were a little bleh to watch despite the Nexus Lift Off. I'll tune in either way though

Yeah I was thinking of different ways, I agree about it being more fun. At the same time more teams could possibly participate if I find some ways to shorten each round. It's all trade offs for now rules will stay the same but I'll think about it and any good ideas you guys can come up with
Simul matches is kind of worse for streaming/team rooting aspect

dacthehork, just one thing, be sure that people from copper/bronze leagues don't play this time. Even if "Nexus" thing was epic, it would be super-cool to see quality of matches we saw from semis in every round of tournament.
Also, few people trashed ICCup casters while I think they were all fine, enjoyable to listen and some mistakes they were making weren't that bad so I hope those guys will cast it again.
Same thoughts with Rise, he was damn hilarious! Was laughing my ass off of some of his comments.
Good luck with organization, first TST Cup was G R E A T, enjoyed it very much.

The nexus thing was obviously him screwing around instead of playing and it's hard to tell if someone's going to jerk around or actually play seriously when they register.

I loved the iccup casters, man it took some real stamina to cover this event, without them we would have had little coverage
I tried to have a good field but they registered right after wipe. Overall the teams where really all pretty good, some just moreso than others.
Also that nexus is gonna be historic when someone puts in on youtube, will definitely link it in the OP of all future events

yeah it reminded me of tasteless casting the gom invitational, would be like 5 hours straight alone, although you had 2 poeple. Event lasted a lot longer than I thought.

awesome tourney, really enjoyed the casting and nexus liftoff. the games in beta so its tough to find the top NA although im sure a majority of the current teams are up there... the semis/finals were worth it though... good games.

Well I think this kind of defeats the purpose of having 3 man teams. Though I would definitely still want to participate if you decide to do this. Perhaps another solution would to be not start casting the matches until the 2nd round (assuming it's a 16 team tourney.)

It's going to be a long event so be prepared.
There is a possibility of having to play a prelim match if you are a lesser ranked team. My idea is to have the tournament be a 16 team bracket, with certain teams having to play each other to get a placement prior to tourney start. This is to keep the time frame reasonable for casters and players.
I will try to come up with the fairest and best way to allow everyone to compete and have a chance, instead of cutting off the teams at a certain number.
Already at 18 teams with a lot of time left.

I think making it a 2 day event, at least for now will be more trouble. I can divide the number of teams in half with a preliminary match to be played sometime before event start, with minimal trouble and the 2 teams could find a decent time for both of them (probably an hour or two before tournament for most).
That would allow me to handle 32 teams as if they where 16, with some hiccups if teams can't find times to play one another.

Saturday Iccup TV is doing a league match, so it would have to start even earlier in the day, and force iccup tv casters to do marathon..
so I doubt that would be any easier

Hey I will update the thread late tonight with all new additions. Sorry for any delays
Note to all teams, be prepared to possibly have a preliminary match sometime before tourney start time. I want to start the tournament in the round of 16 already, to cut down about an hour of casting time to help the casters out a bit and make things run smoothly.
I will contact you through PM, and post in the thread, when/if the preliminary matches are arranged. You will have anytime before the tournament start to play these matches (arrange a time). Any problems arranging the match should be reported to me we can come up with a fair solution.
Just want this event to be as fun as possible and run with few hiccups

Aka he plays PvZ, and ZvP. Showing he doesn't think one is really imba or anything, he's just avoiding mirror matchups.
But again I can change this ruling if people are upset.

I just think it defeats the purpose of picking a race and creates a random inconsistency in the tournament rulings and looks odd, if not anything else. If you say he plays random why not play random then. I'm not a big fan of mirrors either and I'm sure many others aren't. I don't specifically care as it doesn't apply to me, but having set rules and consistency seems more professional. Plus if others start doing this it can get out of hand. That's all =P.

With Smuft doing his own tourney thing using this format, I probably wont do a TST Cup 3 depending what Smuft's plans are (he said in his post he plans on doing another). As I personally can't supply prizes so pretty much all the best teams would play in his over mine and his thread already has 4x the views of mine. In that case I'll let him do these events and I'll save some personal time, which is better for me anyway (more time to work on my F# DSL project). Besides when I set out, my only goal was to start NA events happening and that is pretty much acccomplished. North America better dominate SC 2

Forewarning

No I def think you should keep doing these. Everyone still wants to play and his tournament is WAY more limited to the amount of teams.. unless he ups it.

More events the better... dont let # of views change anything.. the Smuft thing is only 4 teams so alot of teams would miss out on the fun~ so Good luck and hope we see more of these

Fun and simple solution: No spectators other than Streamers or whatever. Yeesh, I personally think it's stupid that people on YOUR team can observe the game and whether they did it or not, be able to tell their teammate what the opponent is doing.

If people want to cheat online, I've heard there are maphacks, the best we can do is look at extremely suspicious activities or rely on blizzard.
Also it's an option not to have any observers, I highly doubt there is any cheating going on in this tournament, since there are no prizes.

We would have had to wait 20 minutes for Sheth, and since I needed to win all 3 games, we played the "next" game as if I had beaten Sheth. Unfortunately I didn't beat Sheth so it didn't matter.

so next week expect tourney earlier, and casting to start later, probably something like tourney start 1pm-2pm and casting to start 3-4pm depending on what casters want. It's a little too long a stretch to cast

Explanation of finals ruling
+ Show Spoiler + Anyway after Catz's disconnect and many disconnects before that at the start of games, it was decided to have a different player, take his spot. This player ended up being sheth. This was fine, after Sheth lost, they had 1 last "revival" but Drewbie had gone to sleep at this point. Letting Sheth have 3 lives, (Sheth,Sheth,Sheth,Drewbie as players), didn't really fit the spirit of the tournament. If drewbie could have taken his spot or played the fourth life this would have been okay. Since it was running late already and casters/players had to sleep this choice was made. Sorry about it, there was no "perfect" choice.
The next tournament will be starting even earlier so hopefully these late nights will be avoided and we can have more time to deal with players that DC often

Xeris you're quite funny, clearly you have no understanding of the game, my build is discovered EVERY TIME i do that, it DOESNT MATTER, muta give me good harrass (THEY NEVER KILL MY OPPONENT), and map control for me to exp, you clearly didn't see the game vs Machine, if it's up anywhere, i'd recomend you watch it, so you understand what that build does, anyways difference between that game and the game vs machine, is machine had an expo and way more drones than me, and more roaches than slush had, vs slush he had low eco and from what im told he made 3 spores, only meaning -225minerals and -3 drones, so yeah I was PRETTY ahead, not sure you're watching the right game but im 95% sure i woulda won, we were even expo wise, except i was about to exp with 4 sunks, and i was ahead in EVERY way. Slush is a great player regardless, he is also a member of root, so I could careless if i lost to him, tonight i dropped like 3-4 times cuz my internet decided to suck. sucks when 25-30% of your losses on ladder are from disconnect. i'll have to fix that, just don't go arround talking nonsense its pretty annoying and disrespectful.
Gg to Team Quebec, they are normally very nice mannerd guys, and as i mentioned before SluSh is a part of Root, so if we don't get to win, I don't mind Slush winning one bit, EVEN if its because of a dq.
anyways i came here to apologize to the viewers of the stream for the disc's and making you wait, very sorry about that, very sorry i had to read this too... 'completely countered' hah.

@del yeah that was in a semi finals of me vs sheth, luckily sheth is extremely mannered and told me what happened, and luckily i am extremely mannered and told him to carry on with the game when he offered remake, because i knew i was behind.

Someone disconnecting, is about the stupidest way to cheat in this tournament, and with Catz's history of bad internet and DCs even in ladder and first 10 seconds. It is very insulting to say he DCed on purpose, he still had a good chance to win. So please stop and drop it. The internet /technical side sucked, and that's that. Ask blizz for reconnects or we might end up having to do the dota style "save" crap. Root Gaming is an awesome clan, and I hope to see a rematch between them and Team quebec (or root gaming 2) next event or in Smuft's tournament

Disconnecting obviously can only be tolerated to a point, but is it fair to DQ Catz in the finals for disconnecting when from what I hear he just regamed against other players?
I say you should stipulate how many d/cs a player is allowed in a single match before a forfeit win is awarded and not FF him in one match for a second offense when the first was in an entirely different match. Why should the current team get a free win when the previous didn't? Make a clear number of DC's allowed to regame but with leverage for discretion from the admins.
Sorry if this is incorrect but from what I read, he DC'd a couple times and was only punished in the finals which is unfair.

He had been disconnected quite often
It wasn't a DQ as much as get someone else to play for him if you read the full explanation.
The thing is drewbie had logged off, so they where down to a single player with stable internet and it was getting late. As I posted, if I allowed sheth to play again, 3/4 of their lives would have been taken by Sheth, which doesn't make sense in a team tournament. But yes time was a factor in the decision, which I think is reasonable considering it is a one day event and completing it in a reasonable time is important. Catz had already disconnected so many times giving him a regame was a risk of further delay.
obviously there was a tradeoff of finishing the tournament in an estimated reasonable time versus dealing with an unstable connection, also at the time Rise and I'm sure other players had to go to sleep shortly, and the already large delay from drops/dced just pushed the finals later for him.
Next week the tournament will start earlier to avoid these issues, but still dealing with disconnects is never easy, especially in a time constrained environment
