So we're in the 3rd season of Shinhan and the 3rd OSL since they've introduced the Round of 24. What do you guys think? Is there an exacerbating amount of games played? Are the games losing their meaning because the loss of spontaneity?

Personally I think it's just way too much of a hassle. Less is more. Too much of a hassle to cover news wise.

I really like it. It makes alot of good games. Like Savior vs. Midas and good hyped matches like Casy vs. July.

Oh but i get what you mean by covering it can be harder and more work.

Thing about the Ro24 is that many rookies get in, that simply shouldnt
thus you get really soft groups with jack all skill/qualiy games.. which sucks..
Also the wildcard system basicly ENSURES that you'll get through.. two thirds of the original contestants get through, and those 8 are usually the crappy ones that SHOULDNT have been there in the first place ;;

Just go back to less players, 4 groups of 4.. and start another torny up... gogo

It sucked when it seemed like every player in Ro8 up was Terran. Or when Anytime and Much were only Tosses (I think it was that.. could be some other tosses). So I'm going with more diversity.
Their are four errors in this sentance.

The staff hates it because of the sheer game count.
Fans love it because it's games.

Me? I like watching any games with significance. I do skip a lot of games recently due to obligations with other things... but whenver pokering is going on and OSL is on...

I like it. More the merrier, etc, but it also gives the weaker players slightly more chance to advance, and likewise increase the chance for a strong player to fall. And who knows, maybe with more games there will come more great games.

Hmmm I agree it is kinda boring and I also agree that it would suck to cover it in the news....But it's cool that they give 'rookies' a chance what if you actually got a few talented people in there....I voted more the merrier because of this

It's all about the race balance. If it's a balanced tournament, I could watch as many rounds as they've got.

But if it's a T/Z fest, the 24 man tournament makes me want to cry, because I'm basically just waiting it out anyway.

I don't really care about how many games there are, but I hate the actual format. I mean if you go 1-2 during group stages, you still have at least (except in one very specific situation that doesn't happen very often anyway) a 2/3 chance to go through?

16 out of 24 is just BS.

I don't mind it. It's pretty good, but I just don't like how they don't play the series all at once (ie. they play game 1's on one day, then another set of game 1's the next day, then a set of game 2's the next day and so on). It's hard to keep track of all these games, and the scores and all that. I understand why they don't do that, as it might be unfair for say... the people who have to play the series on the last Friday, then get 3-4 days to prepare for their next games, whereas other people who play their games the first Friday get almost 2 weeks to prepare, but for the fans, it just kills any sort of excitement seeing the games played so far apart.

Well, I guess with a 8 player playoff, this'll be alot easier to keep track of.

I'm running out of hardrive. Each OSL use to be around 8~10 gigs, but now it's almost doubled... about 15 gigs... T_T

Plus 12 games of OSL plus 4 games of MSL is too much!

voted even racial distribution... but also the more the merrier

i like the group format because we see more bo1s with different players being matched up

but i think they might as well have gone to 32 players, and make groups of 4 with top two advancing... it'd be pretty close to the number of games now anyway (with the 3rd place wildcards, although i didn't calculate), and the group stage games would be more important and more exciting.

I agree with pop that is it bullshit that 1-2 players make it to the playoffs. It just means the round of 24 isnt worth anything.

It also sucks that there are so many games. It is really a chore to stay on top of these tournaments now. I guess it is easier for the casual fan if you just watch your favorite gamer, but to follow everything is almost a full time job.

As I have said before, either a better 24 man format (even 32 man with top two moving on) or go back to 16. Personally, one playday a week per tournament is enough for me. It would also open up the proleague more for coverage.

Hmmm I'm very surprised by the poll results actually. TL has always taken pride in quality over quantity. We all know how GG.net loves quantity and um... yeah. I very much prefer high quality games that are few rather than dozens of games with noname rookies getting trashed or playing each other.

I should say that I love Starcraft as a spectator. Its almost more fun than playing to me.

But with the maps and some of the match ups(Like having a week of mostly TvT or something) I find it kinda hard to really look forward to anything but the most hyped of matches.

Between OSL, MSL, Proleague and the far too often Super Fights im finding that I dont pay attention to the qualifier leagues at all anymore and I will often skip a week of MSL or OSL if none of my fav players are playing or its all mirrors. And I consider myself MAD hardcore about watching this shit, hardcore enough to consider ordering the Korean pack for Dish network so I can tivo OSL. Hardcore enough to stay up until 5am to watch the games on a semi-often basis.

But if im finding my interest moderately waning... I wonder what a casual fan of the game is going to be like.

Definitely think old format with 32 players would be a really good balance between being able to feature more star players along with some new ones and keeping the match count down.

too many true things have been said about this to quote them all.

just following the pro-scene anything near "close" requires me to invest at least 5-10 hours a week, and i'm not even speaking about time difference and the influence on my sleeping habits -_-

less games including higher quality players would be very convenient for me, that would also decrease size of the VOD torrents, which take a lot of my traffic and online time away.

racial balance is another issue, but that is not the leagues fault, its the toss players' incompetence.
Nobody ever reads signatures of people like me, do they?

It would be far more interesting if they came with the rule to allow only 8 players to advance from group stage. First ranked players with automatic advance, and 2nd ranked players would play another double elimination round for just TWO more spots. That WOULD be a real dog-fight in the groups.

And yeah, 'less is more'

I like the round of 24, but I think that instead of cutting to 16 that the winners could get a bye and everyone else who would have made ro16 has to compete to make ro8.

I like the current format. More spots means more abilities to come back - Casy came from wildcards to win entire OSL. A more punitive system with less spots would make that harder.
