Demu and nestea, what a nailbiting series. I don't think the asus rog games are getting enough votes, bling and polt was really crazy too.

Personally I don't care about spoilers but this poll isnt hidden when hide spoilers is ticked on and this poll is most definitely spolierific.

Honestly, Bling over Polt. The names aren't as big, but the upset was huge. Ret is good enough to be expected to take games off of Koreans on a somewhat regular basis, and MVP has been slumping. The same goes for Demuslim, and Nestea has been slumping even more.

Bling, on the other hand, has pretty much never been a big name, always hovering in that good-but-not-great semi pro area. Polt won the friggin GSTL. Need I say more?

Ret over MVP. Demuslim vs nestea I feel like is a little less of a skill gap and the maps factored in a little more. Strelok over lucky is a very close 2nd... actually might have been more of an upset, hard to say, haven't seen ret play too much recently and until about a week ago Lucky looked like he had some of the best ZvT in the world.

Oh yeah, I would have said bling over polt for sure if polt wasn't having a bad few weeks, and BlinG has been playing the best sc2 of his career. Even outside of tournaments polt is looking pretty shaky, and that's where he shines.

Nestea's weakest matchup is ZvT and he's always been more of a preparation based player.
Bling's best matchup is PvT and PvT is the second most common matchup for foreigners to upset Koreans
Lucky is only good against terran if he's playing MMA
JYP vs Terran. Lol.

The answer is Ret vs MVP.

I chose Ret over Mvp. Mvp is my favorite player, I hated watching him lose. Hopefully he can storm back from the losers bracket and take this tourney. Gotta give props to Ret though, he's playing very strong right now; I wouldn't want to face him this MLG.

Honestly it is probably DieStar over JYP but I voted DeMusliM vs NesTea

DeMusliM vs NesTea: DeMu's TvZ is on a very high level, and ZvT is NesTea's weakest match-up. It's an upset, but not on a MASSIVE scale such as when DIMAGA took NesTea out.

Ret vs Mvp: This is my pick. ZvT isn't even Ret's best match-up, IMO, while it is easily Mvp's best. Mvp just a couple of weeks ago was almost universally considered the best player in the world. This is a MASSIVE win for Ret.

JYP vs DieStar: JYP against a Terran...honestly, any Terran could beat JYP and I wouldn't be surprised.

BlinG vs Polt: This is huge, but BlinG has shown flashes of brilliance before, so this isn't as big as Mvp vs Ret.

Strelok vs Lucky: Meh. Strelok is sometimes really good at TvZ. I would have said Strelok had at least a 20% chance of beating Lucky.

Polt has been "slumping" ever since he won the GSL champions league. That was a while back and he has literally done nothing since. I'm not saying MVP isn't in a rut and Nestea is a little sporadic these days but their play recently has still far surpassed that of Polt.

demu vs nestea because demu just should not beat nestea with his current level of skill

ret is a total beast and can beat mvp on a good day and strelok/bling/diestar are great players so not so it's not as much of an upset as demu beating nestea

I'd say BlinG over Polt. BlinG is still an up-and-coming player and Polt is extremely annoying to play against, especially so for people with not as much experience.

I don't mind, but I'd have to agree. I've never bought the argument that front page results somehow promotes anything either. Having an article about the results which is obviously a spoiler seems fine. Putting it in the heading is unnecessary.

Honestly I think people just saw "x vs nestea" and just clicked that one. Demuslim is capable of some crazy shit, and considering nestea's current state I didn't pick it to be my biggest upset.

Edit: Polt beats hero but loses to bling? I think that's pretty big.

Srsly, I'm not that suprised about Demuslim beating Nestea cause Nestea seems to struggle quite a bit lately.
Ret > MVP is pretty damn big I think, cause RET's ZvT isn't that good Imo.
Bling > Polt is pretty hughe aswell, cause Polt is a fckin Monster and Bling still an upcomer. So i think it's Ret>MVP and Bling>Polt is kinda equal upsetwise.

I wasn't totally shocked that Ret took down MVP, Ret is pretty great. Much more surprised to see Bling and Demu doing their thing. Given the level of play we saw from Polt atAssembly today I think I really have to go with Bling, but Polt isn't Nestea...of course you could argue that Nestea isn't really Nestea anymore.

Bling>Polt

Nestea and MVP might be boss, but Demu and Ret are two of the best foreigners in the business so I voted for Diestar over JYP. Seriously, I don't even know who Diestar is. For some reason I keep thinking of Tarson when I picture Diestar.

Ret over MVP for sure, Mvp is like top 3 TvZ in the world, beating him (even bo3) is an accomplishment.

Nestea is great but his TvZ is his weakest, while its demuslim, ah still not as big.. if it was lets say Idra beating Nestea , then yeah its an upset, but TvZ Nestea is not invincible.

NesTea is still NesTea. Which means he is better when he can prepare. He and MVP also lost in TSL 3. However, I am never really surprised, when Koreans "fail" outside Korea. Foreigners are pretty good, and bring a whole different approach, which can throw them(Koreans) off their feet.

DeMuslim and Ret winning these in Korea in a GSL setting would be a bigger surprise, even if both are very capable.

Foreigner competition tends to be a machine gun round, one series after another, until you have a winner. So you have to deal with fatigue and the random variable of who you are going to play. Korean SC focus on the in game tactics and strategy related to not just a specific race, but a specific player. It tries to minimize the player in so far as endurance and improv skills.

Both have their merits, but Koreans definitely are out of their comfort zone when it comes to foreign events. Its not about giving 110% every single game, just 100.1% so you dont burn out by the third series.

Imo Polt-Bling was the biggest upset. Ret-Mvp and DeMusliM-NesTea were also big though.

Completly agree, this should not have been shown. Personally I love the new style but if "those oldskoolers" get upset on this then I agree with them on this. If you don't want to get spoiled for whatever reason then this should also have been hidden.

Demuslim is a boss, no upset there in my eyes..

Bling vs Polt was a little more interesting to me. Maybe because I saw bling lose like 5 times in a row vs stephano on stream the other day so I don't expect much. Congrats to all the awesome pro players!

Bling over Polt clearly. Nestea and MVP have been on a decline and Ret and Demuslim have always been known as sleeping beasts.

however, I have never even heard of bling until a day before the tournament, where I saw the thread about totalbiscuit sponsoring him. I'm like ok that's cool but idk who he is. next thing he takes down polt

Demuslim - Nestea:
Wasn't too big of an upset for me. I gave Nestea and edge but not a giant one. Nestea has been really weak lately and I don't consider him one of the top zergs atm. Also demuslim seems very strong vs Z from what I've seen.

JYP - DieStar:
Don't know anything about DieStar and haven't seen JYP play a lot. Just don't have an opinion on it...

BlinG - Polt:
I consider Bling to be really fucking good. Still takes 2nd place imo, cause polt is a monster.

Strelok - Lucky:
nah. Strelok is T.

Ret - Mvp:
Huge upset. While mvp might not be in the best shape ever, I still thought he'd crush ret. My choice.

how is Bling vs polt not destroying this poll?
There is no such thing as perfection, only improvement.

Umm, diestar vs JYP? No-name polish terran vs arguably one of the better protosses around in a matchup that generally favours P?

Let's face it, all other foreigners in this poll bar maybe bling (who is vastly underrated imho) can be expected to take a bo3 off koreans, but diestar? no, not really.

Spoiler Policy: We're removing our spoiler policy for StarCraft 2 news. That means news threads and forum threads can now have spoilers in the title and spoilers in the comments, though posters will still have to stay on topic (i.e. don't post about GSL in an NASL thread). Brood War news and forums will remain on the old spoiler policy.

We've always envisioned our site as a place where we can have live, up to date news. We want fans to come to our site and see a player holding a trophy with an appropriate headline. This is the future of coverage and where we've always wanted to be as a coverage site. We began as a site during a time with no live streams and everyone read news to see who won last night. Even as technology advanced, the time zone difference made it impractical to watch live for all but the most dedicated fans. But with the SC2 boom, there are plenty of NA and EU events in appropriate time zones. Although many fans still use VODs, live viewing is now the norm. Professional StarCraft 2 resembles live, mainstream sports for most of its fans, and we believe it's finally time to provide fast, up to date coverage on events as they unfold.

This is in the Teamliquid news post ..... This is the direction the site wants to go in. They warned everyone ahead of time that this was comming they prolly havent gotten all the bugs aka spoiler button should be removed eventually.

Personally I don't care about spoilers but this poll isnt hidden when hide spoilers is ticked on and this poll is most definitely spolierific.

Once again this is a news site....

Well then get rid of the hide spoilers button if it's not going to hide all the spoilers.

my homepage is the hot threads, therefore I never get spoiled on the front page. do the same.

"Shit cost money" - Tyler

Not that the Arena was shit, the shit is the costs to put on a tournament like this. Out of context this could be taken the wrong way. Felt I needed to clarify the shit analogy so as to not get shit about it later.

Nowadays Mvp is way stronger than Nestea right now, and more consistent, so it's more impressive to beat him, despite him suffering 'marathonic tournaments' more thanks to his cts.

Even more, Nestea's weakest matchup is ZvT, Mvp's best matchup is TvZ. Ret beating Mvp was the biggest upset no doubt, not only thanks to the skill gap, but because Mvp isn't one of those players who makes sudden blunders a là ZergBong.

tbh MVP his best MU is TvT, but I agree with you that Ret > MVP was the biggest upset

I guess Nestea v. Demuslim is kind of a bigger upset because it was one of the first matches played in the tournament? Nestea defeated from the start by a guy who made it to MLG by the skin of his teeth.

That being said, if we're comparing pure feats of strength here, the biggest upset to me is Bling v. Polt. Polt didn't play "bad", and yet Bling crushed him. I hadn't seen such one-sided games in favor of a (pretty much unproven) foreigner against a top Korean since TSL 3. And you couldn't even blame it on the lag.

Anyone calling DeMusliM over Nestea an upset haven't been watching Demu stream... his control is so insane, there are few top tier koreans who are that good I think.

I think that "Biggest Upset Today" was MKP winning DRG.

I don't want to take anything away from DeMusliM. But his win rate on the NA ladder is only 70%. That's good. But that doesn't make you worthy of being placed on equal foot with someone like Nestea. DeMuslim's play was inspired (in game 1 and 3 anyway), but Nestea didn't bring his A game, far from that.
For reference, oGsVines has a winrate of 80% on NA, and 63% on KR.
