They switched Puma and MKP when MC replaced MKP.

Puma, Mana, Stephano, Sase is easily the best group. The Huk, Tarson and Nerchio group is slightly behind. MC will crush his group unless team Empire BRINGS IT, don't see Idra making it out tbh. Anything could happen tho

I think that Mana and Stephano are the two best foreigners atm. With Sase training in Korea, and Puma having proved that he is a complete beast I would have thought 90% of the voters would have picked that group.

Socke gonna go 700-0 and rip some nerd hearts out this tournament. Hope he wins this one and gets some more recognition.

I voted group A by accident. IdrA has beaten Kas quite a few times recently, and Beastyqt is not solid enough for me to see him take the whole group. MC definetly has it in the bag tho.

Group B is definetly group of death. Sase and Mana are both recently turning up top form, and Stephano is always a badass. Puma is Korean and manhandled most people at NASL and I expect him to take the top spot, but it seems really hard to call who wins what.

Group C should see Huk take 1st and Nerchio 2nd (or the other way around) Not really deadly, just hard to call exact order.

Group D has Socke who has the potential to come out, but hasn't impressed recently. I see Killer taking it, and assuming by the recent bnet invitationals standards, Select has regained form and can easily take 2nd and challenge for 1st.
Remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

MC's group no doubt, still every group looks though.
With an average game length of 7m36s over his 6 games in GSL3, this is a no-brainer. BitByBit pulls more SCVs than yo momma at a club on Mar Sara. ♞

I voted for the MC/Idra/Kas/qt group, kas might come up big again like TSL seems as he knows who to prepare for, MC is MC and idra might still have some fight left in him, but none of them are really groups of death imo.

I don't see why so many people voted for group A. 3 months ago sure go ahead and call it the group of death but MC, Idra and Kas have all seen their play slip since then. Group D is definitely the toughest group as far as current form goes but even then I'm not quite sure it's a group of death. Ever since Flash, Jaedong and Bisu were all in the same OSL group everything else pales in comparison.

Seems like quite a few people are not aware how good Mana and Stephano actually are. I wouldn't be surprised if Puma doesn't manage to finish first.

No, people are voting Pool A because of the perceived Idra vs MC rivalry and are not looking at current form (both Idra and MC slumping) but at overall past results (i.e. two of the top 5 most decorated players).

Replaced MKP like people have said 5 times.

Even though MC is slumping a bit in korea, if he plays anything like he did at NASL finals he will destroy his group so hard, bit of a mismatch TBH. So group of death is deifnitely D.

Puma group by faaaaar
MC about equal to Puma judging solely from NASL and MC's current struggles.
Mana, stephano, and sase are at least equal to kas/idra if not above a level. Beastyqt don't know much about him but judging by his recent record, he isn't on the same level as the other 5.

Puma, Mana, Stephano, Sase.. by far!

I mean... Puma obviously Korean, NASL winner, favourite not only of this group, but of the entire tournament, but...

Stephano: top 3 EU (and possibly EU+NA) zerg - only competition for him is Dimaga, Idra, Morrow, Nerchio, Sen and Ret. But, recent form is in favor of Stephano, only Ret and Dimaga may be better right now. I saw him @ Assembly summer, really genius play, falling only to Dimaga in best ZvZ I saw in pretty long time. I wouldn't be surprised if he toke a game from Puma, maybe even whole set!

Next up - SaSe: Great player, practicing in Korea for last week, surely he has learned something in that week. Also, he is great overall and he could fight for the top spot in any other group, but this one I don't think so... But we will see, he is surely capable of taking games off his opponents.

And last but not least - MaNa: He's in such great form lately, second at Assembly, third at IPL (although I don't know when were these games played), already qualified for IEM China... And he is the best Protoss in the EU/NA in PvT imho (yes, even better than HuK/Naniwa) fully capable of beating Korean terran (MaNa vs Nada anyone?). If Puma won't play 1-1-1 vs him, I just don't think he could lose. This will be "upset" for many, not for me though. Of course, 1-1-1 (with no mistakes from terran) can't be defended, so it's up to Puma if he decides to play fair games or just win...

So yeah... group of death it is.

mc is going to roflstomp everyone in pool A, most likely 2-0, so if you mean death in the sense that all the white dudes are gonna get murdered, then i agree

in all other respects its puma's group

If this were 6 months back I would vote for MC's group, but it isn't.

With that said I went with Puma, Mana, Stephano and Sase. If anyone of these guys decides to show up it's lights out.

A close second would be HuK, Nerchio, Tarson and Moonglade.

Only reason why I didn't select the last one is because I haven't seen Moonglade in action for a while, so he's a bit of a unknown factor for me.

none of them i would say are group of deaths... at most a groop has 2 good players, and only Huk and MC are great

i mean, if there was really a group of death, i think opinion on it would be pretty unanimous o.o

Top 4 players here currently are probably Puma, MC, Huk, and Killer... and they're all in different groups. So yeah no group of death.

And I don't mean to belittle the other players, but the koreans (inc. huk) are playing at another level still.

not really !?

i mean in group 1 there is obviously idra and mc but in group 2 there are Puma Mana AND Stephano (stephano is not like a super big name yet but he is sooooooooooo good) then in group3 there are Huk and nerchio (nothing to say about those i guess) and in group 4 there are Killer Select AND Socke which are not doing to well recently but still big names

I Agree for Dimaga but Ret/Sen ? Really ? IdrA doesn't make anything in USA for the moment, Sheth, make 1 final and you say "Sheth ? TOP Z"

Yeah, that's surprising, usually you see more sweden and germany flags, only one of each there.

Voted for group D with Stephano/Mana/Sase/Puma, I think it will be the closest group. All of them are good players and all in good shape recently.
Stephano is really strong in ZvT and ZvZ, probably even better than most korean zergs except DRG and Nestea, I think he can beat Puma, but I'm not sure about his ZvP and there are 2 protoss in the group. Mana and Sase have a chance against Puma too, even a small chance, depend on the mappool I think. And then PvP is still quite random. Anyone can take the group.
Anyway about Stephano he is probably top5 for his ZvT and ZvZ, maybe not top5 overall because of his ZvP yet, but keep in mind he is only 17 and already plays very smart and calm, this kid will be top5 for the next 10 years if he keeps playing.

For all other groups I see 2 players taking top top2 easily, so no group of death.
Group A : MC and Kas, Group B : Socke and Select, Group C : Huk and Nerchio

None of them are particularly "death" like.
I see a clear favourite in each group, a likely runner-up and two underdogs.

The easiest way to find out the group of death is to look at who you think are the weakest players in each group and compare. Mana and Sase as the "weakest" players in that group is pretty scary compared to Beastyqt, Moonglade or Diestar.

Usually I would pick the IdrA - MC group. But I really don't think Idra has been performing lately, I feel like his skill has noticably declined, and just to take a step back from the is-the-BM-good-or-bad-for-eSports eternal argument. Whether you like or hate Idra you had to admit he was still a really shit hot macro Zerg who was winning games and tournaments (IPL 1). As much as he would hate for anyone to say it, IdrA now seems like the wildcard to me. He's just totally unpredictable, and I don't mean his playstyle, I mean his performance. IdrA can crash through people, playing like a beast (day one MLG Columbus), and then lose a single game, and his entire mindset just crumbles... (Day two MLG Columbus).

Some GSL spoilers about MC if you haven't watched his latest GSL games (GSL August) don't click).
+ Show Spoiler +
MC getting his ass handed to him by MVP and Noblesse respectively, with two good Terran's in his group, we could be seeing the two time GSL champion fall into a bit of a slump. Also when he was called out as the Ace for oGs, he was beaten fairly soundly by Revival in GSTL. Note: I'm not badmouthing MC, he's likely the best SC2 Protoss, but you have to admit, recent history isn't going in his favour.

With all that in mind I picked Puma, Mana, Stephano and Sase. I think a lot of people will predict Puma to take that group, but Sase's PvT is amazing and Mana has been showing great performance in the IPL. Stephano is also a stellar Zerg, and I think this tournament will really show off his skill.

Anyway, those are my picks and this ended up being a lot longer than I originally planned ^_^

Pool A really has two Empire(Kas, beastyqt) and two eG(Idra,PuMa) members in??

wtf, the Gracken alone is more than enough Drama for one group -.-

agree on the most part, but I suppose MC is gonna have a harder time fighting those 2 Terrans than Idra does (due to meatagame issues, not Skill:D)

Pool A and D are gonna be really tough to call, but Pool C will also be really interesting, Socke struggled quite a bit against T lately, and Select said he put lots of practice in his TvP so... It should be quite entertaining groups tbh

I'm gonna have to vote pool C, first there's huk who eats foreigners for breakfast but there's nerchio who made a miracle IPL2 run and has shown he can play in the big leagues, moonglade who despite leaving FXO and being a relative recluse in Australia is still one of the strongest foreigner zergs and could easily take on the other players and tarson, well tarson is a very good player he's made some nice runs only stopped by players like MC and dimaga in HSC3 and the last IEM cologne so he could pull off an upset especially considering that nerchio may still be nervous at lans and moonglade who's supposedly been having personal issues may not practice enough to compete. By far the hardest group to call.

If you didn't pick the Puma, Mana, Stephano, and Sase group as the group of death, then you should follow the EU scene a little more closely. Puma is the clear favorite to win the group, but the other 3 players will give him a run for his money.

Puma, Mana, Stephano, Sase for me.

Puma is an incredible terran, but we don't know much about how he's playing lately, if he tried to qualify for Code A he failed again.

Mana is in perhaps the form of his career with awesome performances in the IPL and Assembly.

Stephano is one of the hottest Zergs on the planet, and perhaps the fastest improving player around.

Sase is a beastly protoss fresh off a runners up spot at the CPL, and while I doubt his time in Korea is paying off just yet, he'll definitely be highly motivated going into this.

All 4 of them are awesome, and they all perform well in a LAN setting.

Group A is close behind; but MC and Idra aren't currently the forces they once were, Kas is still struggling to bring in consistent results at LAN events, and beastyqt is perhaps a level below still.

It worries me that 3392 people (so far) are having such a low comprehension of player skills. Pool D should have 90% of the votes here. IdrA is overrated, not because he's bad but because people think of him as a god or the true representative for NA-SC2, Kas can really crush noobs and semi-pros in devastating fashion, even make a number on ppl of higher ranks like TSL (as long as it is online) but won't stand a chance against MC or any other high-korean on LAN. Beastyqt, good luck.

MaNa and SaSe has become European powerhouses (in Europe) and Stephano is the brightest up and coming star right now in impeccable fashion. PuMa I dont know who it is, but he's korean and probably won something to get invited here..

MC revisits Europe

Unfortunately we have to replace one of our recently announced Korean invites for next week's Global Challenge Cologne. MarineKing won't be able to travel to Germany. Nevertheless, his substitute isn't less popular or successful.

Two-time GSL champion MC from SK Gaming and oGs is not only a great addition to our tournament, but will also even out the overall ratio of Protoss and Terran with 6 representatives each. MC won't be placed in group D. He will start in group A and PuMa moves to group D instead, to avoid having two groups with three players of one race. This was done in agreement with all affected players.

Group A

Empire.Kas
Beastyqt
IdrA
MC

Group B

Socke
DieStar
SeleCT
Killer

Group C

Tarson
Nerchio
mOOnGLaDe
HuK

Group D

Stephano
MYMSaSe
MaNa
PuMa

pools are correct and im super excited to see group A Group D is probably gonna be the second most interesting group to watch i see huk taking his group quite easily
Bet on it!

Idra aint that scary, basicly only MC is because Kas has such... stagefright. D got really good players such as Puma and up and coming players like Stephano, that aswell as Mana playing good recently and Sase having practiced in Korea!

B Isn't that scary really...

C If Nerchio plays his best he and Huk should definately advance... Kind of easily aswell.

(P)MC, (Z)IdrA, (T)Kas, and (T)Beastyqt is a scary group, no doubt--MC is the best Protoss in the world, Kas is one of the best European Terrans despite most of his accomplishments being in smaller tournaments (other than TSL I haven't really seen him deep into any big tournaments), Beastyqt is a good player, but not quite as well known as the other members of the group, and of course: IdrA. Everybody's favorite player to hate and one of the best Zergs in the world. I was pretty certain I would vote that group (IdrA+MC how is that not a scary group), but then I saw another group that caught my eye and struck fear into my heart:

(T)PuMa, (P)MaNa, (Z)Stephano, (P)SaSe. Holy crap. First off, the gentlemanly Korean President Terran himself. I don't know who else watched all his matches at NASL or his play in the GSTL (before EG stole him, just kidding, but seriously), but that dude is a sick-baller-nerd (alternatively if you don't speak Tastosis that means really, really, good). MaNa is an especially good Protoss player who I don't think ever got super far in tournaments because his PvZ was so weak compared to his other match-ups (not (P)InCa weak, but certainly weak). That being said, recently, MaNa's PvZ has been exceptionally well played:
+ Show Spoiler +
beating (Z)DarKFoRcE, (T)IdrA, and coming just short of beating (Z)Nerchio in the IPL2.
Stephano is definitely one of the top Zergs outside of Korea. Better than IdrA? That one is hard to say but he certainly has better composure than IdrA; so while a IdrA playing at his best might be a better player than Stephano, if it comes down to the crunch time in a tournament, and MC just calmly types "are you angry?" I can't see IdrA playing as well as the Frenchman, Stephano. Then SaSe, another great European Protoss player who has been training in Korea. I think that his time in Korea will allow him to prepare super well for this tournament and be even scarier of a competitor than he usually is.

And that is why I voted for PuMa, MaNa, Stephano, and SaSe's group, because while IdrA, MC, Kas, and Beastyqt has the most votes, I think that's mainly because it has two of the most popular players. MC vs IdrA definitely has the potential to be a great set so long as IdrA doesn't decide to randomly rage quit unpredictably, but overall PuMa vs MaNa will be a great match, and PuMa vs Stephano, and PuMa vs SaSe, and MaNa vs Stephano, and Stephano vs SaSe. Yeah basically all the matches are going to be awesome (minus PvP haha).

Puma/stephano/mana/sase definately. The first 3 have been on fire lately, and sase ain't bad either obv. Well I only know puma of his NASL, but he's expected to do well. Stephano should be considered among top foreign zergs currently, and mana has done great also #3IGN #2asm.

I don't see Idra as even favorite to get out of group. People are ofc interested in seeing yet another match between idra and MC and thus voting, but I don't think there's anything very deadly about that group. MC has turned out to be beatable lately, beasty is new star when it comes to LANs and idra has done a bit poorly too. They're all good, but without a doubt puma's group currently has way more effectiveness.

Another vote for no group of death.

To me a group of death should include at least one player higher than exit slots, in this case 3, that have a fairly high likelihood of winning the tournament. This would require something like a MC/Huk/Puma group.

Anyone who didn't vote 'Puma, Mana, Stephano, Sase' is fucking insane. Puma is Puma. Mana has been on a tear, and shows up to these things and just crushes them. Stephano is an increasingly incredible zerg. Sase is a real talent. I can see all of these players as contenders for the top spot(s), don't get that in the other groups.

Group D pretty clearly. All other groups have players that are theoretically weaker dKiller, BeastyQt in A, DieStar in B and MoonGlade in C, but group D has actually 3 contenders for top non-Korean spot in the tournament.

Huk's group can surprise and I hope Nerchio and Tarson go through, but favourites are Huk and Nerchio.
MC will crush his group Kas should go 2nd.
Select and Killer in whatever order from their group, but I hope Socke will surprise and his PvP was good, hopefully still is.
From group D I hope for Stephano and Mana, but unless Mana cheeses PuMa I fear it won't happen so probably PuMa, Stephano.

People have to be just voting group A for idra and MC off name recognition.

There's no way you could honestly think ALL FOUR players in that group are as close in skill as Group D.

Edit: And now the group A votes look even more silly after Idra withdrew, rofl.

ya that's exactly it, big names win over actual skill in a poll like this. d is group of death without a doubt.

Group D: Stephano, MaNa, SaSe & MKP - how is group A voted higher? Seriously.

They seem pretty balanced to me. I can't really vote for one of them as the "group of death." Seems like they are really well picked groups.

Pool D. People are voting Pool A because IdrA's overrated.

+1, looks like if you want to be seen as a good player, what you have to do is repeat that you are one all the time, and never win any events

After seeing the results and the poll results, ugh.

Too many fan boys!

Nerchio and Tarson do it again. Guess I should have trusted Moonglade to bring some smoke and mirrors after all even though he made several bad decisions his play was unique and shit he pulled some stuff off nicely.

Pool D seems to be the pool of death, especially in European land. Don't know why Pool A got so many votes (it's a dangerous pool too but come on, look at Pool D!)

Seems like a relatively even distribution of good players, but D is probably going to be the toughest

It's funny because Pool A is wrong and it's still voted the hardest, yet the change to make it accurate makes the pool even worse

13415 IdrA fanboys and counting. Group D is the hardest.

I picked group A for group of death. MC>MKP&Mana&Stephano&Sase, MKP>Idra&Kas&Beatyqt, Idra>Mana&Stephano&Sase, Mana>Kas&Beastyqt, Kas > nobody in group D, Stephano>Kas&Beastyqt, Beastyqt>nobody in group D, Sase>Beastyqt&Kas. This seems reasonable, no? If so, it's pretty clear group A is the tougher group (minus Beastyqt and Empirekas). LOL my mind is so full of fuck atm

Lol Why would anyone say Puma's group, Puma is fucking terrible. MaNa will easily take that group. MC or IdrA could rape anyone in that group on a good day

well PUMa raped MC at NASL and he could easly rape every foreigner (yes Idra even on a good day is no match for him , sorry fans ) the only one that could be a threat him is MaNa whose PVT is quite beastly

So Puma got lucky against MC, that doesnt mean he wouldn't get raped by a competent Protoss or Zerg EASILY
