Standard overgaspool depends on walling off a ramp with zerglings while grabbing a fast second hatchery inbase; the earlier gas allows 6 mutas to be hatched off of one geyser once the spire completes. Zero's getting ling speed delayed his hatchery and put him way way behind in larva than Jaedong, who abused that advantage once his own ling speed finished to break Zero's ramp, kill some drones, and force a sunken colony. Even though he got to spire, Zero's economy was stuck and there was no way he could build a second hatchery. All he could do was pump mutas off of one gas, which Jaedong safely countered with two spores at each of his bases, even building a sunken at his natural to be extra safe against zergling runbys. Once Jaedong's own spire completed and his two gas geysers were operational, Zero was dead. So yes it was a build order/positional win. Zero chose an awful build, got cross positions which made it even worse, and Jaedong exploited his advantage perfectly. Oh, now that I think about it, you're totally right, it was an overgaspool. Thanks for the clarification! I was wondering why the pool/lings were so late. If he went standard 9pool, he would have gotten there in time to threaten the hatchery and force Jaedong's lings to guard at the ramp, correct? The advantages are still there, but today's insane ling micro, thanks to the maps that promote ZvZ, does so much towards making the strategic imbalances seem surmountable.

I think (not too certain) that if Zero had gone 9poolspeed, he would have had to guess correctly which base Jaedong was at. Zero opened at SW and sent his ov to NW, Jaedong at NE sending to SE, so Zero had a 50-50 chance of guessing Jaedong's location as his lings hatched. I think most progamers send their lings across the map in those situations, though, so his lings would have reached Jaedong's base in time to probably kill any or all of Jaedong's natural hatchery, initial lings, and some drones and put Jaedong way behind. Though with Jaedong you never really know ![]() Yeah, ZvZ is probably the matchup with the most interesting metagame right now.

I think that he would have sent lings across the map as well (sending one to the SE), since it's the farthest and therefore, takes the longest to get to (like type-b did against Leta on the same map, + Show Spoiler + although he won his game

Jaedong, going for his third OSL win, becoming the third player to win 3 OSL's and second Zerg to do so... It's so hard to root for either one... YellOw[ArnC] vs Type-B is gonna be cool, too. Basically seeing which Zerg is better in the SPARKYZ house...
