[GOM] We Don't Need No Stinkin' KeSPA!
April 3rd, 2009 21:48 GMT
Last week I wrote: "Boasting KeSPA's support and a large prize pool, it's difficult to comprehend why some teams [...] are refusing to participate," but it's come to my attention that the GOM Classic does not currently have-- and may never have had-- KeSPA sanctioning. I apologize for this error in reporting. This thread has Teamliquid's stance on GOM with regards to TLPD ELO.
With that humbling retraction out of the way, let's take a look at the results of last weekend as well as this weekend's upcoming games.
Things are apt to start warming up this week as we move into round two. With the weakest participants now eliminated, this round is about deciding who gets to play the seeds. For the no-names, it's incredibly important that they get that chance, as a good performance against a seed could push them into the limelight. For the well known non-seeds, like sKyHigh, it may just be another step toward a chance at an individual league finals, but it's an essential step that could trip them up if they're not paying attention. Expect a few upsets this round.
See you in the Live Report Threads!

Seeding is done based off of a players KeSPA rank, not how they placed in last season
|
I maybe wrong, but wasn't the GOM Classic sanctioned Last Season?? I'm sure Nick and Susi said this in one of their very first brodcasts
|
I would say yes. It was even on fomos front page during S2. S1 was not even on it!!!

+ Show Spoiler +I don't know if I'll be able to stand watching Yellow losing.. ;_;

no kespa? S2 had kespa... it was mentioned during the cast... but why does kespa abandone GOM (or the other way round)? Someone got inside information?

GOM never was sanctioned by KeSPA, it was simply "recognized". Susie was fed misinformation.
|
Has there been an official statement as to why KeSPA "recognizes" GOM as a tournament, but wont sanction it?

*EDITED*
I was surprised since I thought all of the major leagues are sanctioned or whatever it's called. But after reading about some teams not participating the picture got clearer and cloudier at the same time.

good call on the kespa ranks.. gom is definitely worth counting...

Ah I was about to ask how Season 2 was sanction but not Season 3. Thanks for the information.

Wow all of these matches look very interesting.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing SoulKey in action. The woongjin coach thinks very highly of him.

When I read this I was like "HOLY SHIT SOULKEY SK TERRAN" And then I checked, and he plays Zerg. ._.

What looks very interesting so far in this season is that we have both Hydra and Crazy-Hydra fighting. Im already a fan of Crazy-Hydra, that's an awesome name.

Ok can someone please clarify the difference between Kespa "recognized" and Kespa"sanctioned"?
Does winning Gom season 2 count as winning a starleague or just a special event?
|
Poor GOM, this is their 3rd season already and still KeSPA (more like OGN + MBC + IEG) haven't allowed them to enter their playground. Talk about anti-competitive.

kim jung woo will rip all appart in 2009

That's what I would like to know.
Even without the prestige, at least GOM has a lot of money to throw around. I don't get why teams are explicitly boycotting this tournament.

Hey,
Is anyone else seeing "next match not reserved."
Are they playing tonight?
|
Yeah, as far as I know, the match should have started 6 minutes ago. Check the page right before 10 PST, and it said "X minutes to go!", then as soon as it hit 10, I see the "Next match not reserved". My guess is they're just sorting everything out. Hopefully it will be up in a few.
|
Yeah I have no idea, the "http://www.gomtv.net/classics3/" is also down too.
Is there a live thread up? I looked but didn't find one.

Yeah, it plays about a 20 second clip, then cuts out.

Nevermind, there are some people on the GOM forums saying that that's supposed to work, but it isn't working.
EDIT: They had a link up, and then they took it down. Looks like they might be working on it. Might be.

It's up now but it keeps stopping after 10-15 seconds

That's what it was doing before they took the link down the first time. Ooohhh boy...

Live is up now, tastless and dan casting replays.
|
|
I still have "Please tune in and enjoy" note but i get "Can not find media error for the specified adress (404)" <,< any1 else getting this ?
|
Casting replays? Why would they do that? no wonder they aren't sanctioned if that's the best they've got.
|
GOM was great S 1 and 2, now its problems every week. hope they can fix it all soon.

I guess VODs are delayed this week as well? Don't see yesterday's games up.
|
|
Are anytime, reach, oversky, casy, xellos, gorush and other members of ace all seeded already?

so i started watching the idra vs trap game and i can't help but notice how fucking annoying Super Daniel is. plus, you have trouble hearing him clearly...

You have a hard time hearing heam clearly ? ? I think his English is good. Sure, he's hyper, but umm.. typically he knows what he's talking about.
Where are the VODs?

Generally, I don't feel like he adds much to the commentary. I think I actually preferred lilsusie. I do like his little progamer anecdotes though.

I was so scared i wasnt going to see Yellow

I'm not sure how I follow your logic on exactly why you prefer Lilsusie over Superdanielman especially if we're talking about "adds much to the commentary." He might not have super perfect fluency, but it's really easy to understand him and his knowledge of the game is far better than probably most here in TL. Plus I love how they talk about random stuff and generally click better than Tasteless/Lilsusie. I just hope SKT1 will join Gom if there is a next season...

Superdaniel & Tasteless both talks about the same stuff that is going on in the game. Superdaniel's in-game knowledge isn't as good as Tasteless since Tasteless has far better in-game experience. Tasteless plays iccup at least. Whereas Lilsusie talks about a lot of the stuff outside of the game such as rumors and gossips revolving around the programer. In the beginning, I prefer Superdanielman, but now he is a bit repetitive. I wouldn't mind seeing Lilsusie back as well.

I disagree with your statement that Superdaniel's in-game knowledge isn't as good as Tasteless'. Yea, Tasteless plays iccup sometimes but Superdaniel was the coach of Estro for many years. And trust me, when you're a coach of a progame team in Korea for many years chances are your knowledge is deeper than some dude that plays on iccup and probably even the Korean progamers. Seriously, give Superdaniel respect man and listen to the stuffs he says, it's really some of the best commentary you'll ever hear.
|
Because of Tasteless and Superdaniel's experience, they can talk intelligently about the history of the game and how strategies have evolved. I find that stuff very interesting. Susie was a great source of color; she could provide the inside scoop from the progamer clubhouse and some fun anecdotes about the players, their IDs, etc. GOM ought to let her cover that stuff and post it on the site. That's the kind of extra content that (I hope) Tasteless and SDM hinted at recently. Adding a level of in-depth reporting like that would really help round out GOMs coverage and make SC a better "sport."

From what I gather, recognized means they acknowledge the fact that it exists.
Sanctioned means that wins/losses by players affect a player's monthly KeSPA ranking.

In my opinion osl and msl are enough for progamers.GCL seems unsuitable and untraditional. If it want to be comparable, the tounament should have been the same with osl and msl,and not the 128-64-32-16-8-4-2-1.It is too bore and not have the sense of layer. Fans who visited the hall are not more and the hall seems like the one of five years ago.And the main speaker--ding yeehun,I see him from osl to weg to Chinese channels and tounaments than back to Kroea, from sc to w3 and then also back to sc, no one he sponsored or speaked remains longer! Though he is something, he is respectable, what he actually want to do? Osl and msl's main speakers vs gcl's ding seems like osl and msl vs gcl. There are two speakers in gcl who speak in English, everyone said they are good ,but I cannot understand what they said, their voice is too fast, I am a beginner of English

Why not get a 3-commentator-combo like the Korean commentating team?
