Fantasy ProleagueShinhan 08/09 - Round 3

NOTE: Round 3 is All-Kill Format, so there is a new scoring system.
Due to intrigue's massive lead, most of the 208-team field is already looking toward Round 3, which begins next week. Player and team prices will be adjusted based on Round 2 results, and everyone will have a fresh start in points and team members. Thus, you are not at a disadvantage if you did not play in Round 2. Everything resets for Round 3. For those that missed out on Fantasy PL last season, this is your chance!
Fantasy Proleague is a great experience that will make you appreciate and enjoy Proleague more, give you something to talk about with other Fantasy PL participants, and help you better familiarize yourself with the Proleague scene. For me personally, Proleague went from the bottom of my "care about" list straight to the top. I was looking forward to lineups being released, every ace match selection, player win streaks, etc. It really made Proleague much more exciting.
This contest will last for the duration of the next seven weeks of Proleague (starting on January 17th), which is the third of five rounds in the Shinhan 08-09 Proleague Season. Round 3 will be played in All-Kill format, which means that the teams send out one player, and the winner stays until one team has four wins. Thus, each match is Bo7 and each winning team could end up sending only one player (if that one player 4-0's the other team). Each losing team will end up sending four players (as they must cumulatively lose four times).
Contest Rules:
1. Each team will consist of six different players and one proteam.
2. Each team must include at least one player from each race. (Terran, Zerg & Protoss)
3. You must designate one of the players on your team to be the Team Captain (can't be traded and will determine tiebreakers).
4. You can spend no more than 30 points creating your team. (explained below)
5. Registration will be automated thanks to Sonuvbob. Check back for the link on 02:00 Jan 13 2009.
6. Each person only gets one entry.
7. Failure to correctly follow these rules may result in disqualification from the contest.
Team Creation:
Below is a list of all players who are eligible for Fantasy Proleague Round 3. Each listed player has a point value. You must spend that many points to place that player on your team. You may not exceed 30 points or your team will be disqualified. If you spend less than 30 points and are tied with another team in score, you will have the tiebreaker. However, I strongly advise you to use all 30 points, as even one point is much more valuable in purchasing players or teams than as a tiebreaker.
Point values are based upon their performance in the previous Proleague round based on the same scoring system that will be used for this contest. Zero point players are handled differently this Round. Since team wins are worth points for players on that team, almost all players (non-Airforce players at least) are worth at least 1 point. Players from Lecaf and Samsung, even if they don't appear, are worth 2 points because of the number of wins those teams get.
Player and team prices are included in the sign up form (link at top of post). To give you more time to register, the January 14th match between Lecaf and Woongjin will not count toward the player score. We have instead projected out the score of the players on these two teams so there is no unfairness, but the score deviation is so small it probably won't matter anyway.
Trading:
During the few days with no Proleague matches between each week there will be a "Trading Period." I will offer one or more available trades as a Trade of the Week. The trades offered will appear a such:
If you have one of either player and you want to make the trade you may PM me at anytime during the Trading Period and I will switch out the player you have for the one you don't. The trading feature does not allow you to have multiples of the same player. Trading may allow you to exceed the 30 point limit, that is okay. However, you may not make a trade if it would result in you not having a player of each race. You may not trade your Team Captain.
During the week you may PM me trade suggestions/proposals. I will review all proposed trades and may choose from them when posting the Trade of the Week. For the trade to be considered it must appear as a fair and interesting trade.
All-Kill Player Scoring:
Players:
Lineup appearance: 1 Point*
Game Win: 2 Points
Game Loss: -1 Point
2-Game Streak Break: 1 Point**
3-Game Streak Break: 2 Points**
Team Win: 1 Point***
DQ/Forfeit: -2 Point
*Only counts once, i.e. if Flash goes 4-0, he still only gets 1 appearance point
**Streaks do not carry over between matches, all streaks must occur in the same match
***This counts for all players on the team's roster, they don't have to have played in the match

4-0 Victory: 5 Points
4-1 Victory: 4 Points
4-2 Victory: 3 Points
4-3 Victory: 2 Points
3-4 Defeat: 1 Point
2-4 Defeat: 0 Points
1-4 Defeat: -1 Points
0-4 Defeat: -2 Points
Best Record for Round 3: 4 Points

Jaedong: 6 Points (+1 for lineup, +4 for wins, -1 for loss, +2 for 3-game streak break)
Boxer: 1 Point (+1 for lineup, -1 for loss, +1 for team win)
Bisu: 5 Points (+1 for lineup, +2 for win, +1 for 2-game streak break, +1 for team win)

Round 3 will be significantly more difficult than Round 2, now that everyone is more familiar with the players, the prices are more accurate, and there will be many more entrants. However, the newness of the All-Kill format will give you guys plenty of opportunities to differentiate your teams.
Remember, these prices are tentative and will be updated just prior to Round 3 Registration going live.

I think you'll all be surprised that the lesser players will still be getting games and some of them are bound to be surprises themselves. The losing team has to send out four different players still, so a lot of them are bound to get wins anyway.
If anything... even more players will be gunning to take down giants like Flash and Jaedong because they don't see lineups a week beforehand and if they are going to be practicing against a certain player on a team, then they will practice against that team's best. So the better players are just going to be prepared against by everyone each week week rather than just one player, and those star players won't have time to practice the vast configuration of possible match-ups that will inevitably be coming their way.

This might be a little OT, but I couldn't find a thread with the full PL format concerning the different rounds. So R1 and R2 was standard Bo5 lineups. R3 seems its All-Kill. What about the rest of Rounds? If I'm not wrong, there are supposed to be 6 rounds, right?

That's a good point. Looking at it that way I think the middling players on lecaf/ktf are going to be really bad picks this season.

It's under "team win" in the Players Scoring column, if your player's team wins, he gets an extra point per win.

to be honest I was really tempted to pick magma myself if I could afford him. He has all the markings of a jangbi complex, in other words a player with a ton of potential who performs well except when in front of cameras. Combine that with a fairly anemic lineup from estro (you can't count on really or upmagic to realistically 5:0 another team) which means hes going to play quite a lot. So potentially a pretty good zerg + many appearances all for 2 points.
Even if he fails at that, all-kill format brings out snipers, especially from the weaker teams (I personally see PianO filling this role as a TvT sniper but again, couldnt pick him). Since estro doesnt really have a proficient protoss sniper, that role could easily fall to magma.
I'll be really surprised if magma doesnt turn out to be one of the steals from this season.
That said, you're lineup is one of the stronger ones I've seen

I have a huge problem with these point-system!
If somebody wants to base his team on Lecaf OZ, and buys the Team, JD and FOrgg thats 23 points. If somebody wants to base on KTF he buys the Team, Lux+Flash and thats 11 points!
And the team who gained the most with this All-kill format IS KTF. Flash+Lux (even though Lux seems to slump i'm confident in his skills he's a hard worker and he will show results) should clean up more than the half of the current pro-teams with no problem, and have a decent shot vs ANY team. And you still have 19 points left, and buy two more strong idividual players from 2 top teams. (JD/Bisu/FBH/whoever) I would build my team like this, my only problem is i really dislike KTF
And i would have a question! If i have KTF_Firefist and he's the only member from KTF in my team if KTF wins a match i get +1 point because of him instantly? And not loose any if KTF looses. Did i undertand it correctly?

My reasoning is this...
Flash can all kill on a good day against any team minus SKT and Lecaf. And even then on a really good day he has a shot.
Kal is inconsistent but if you don't think he can get a couple of win streaks you're crazy. His vZ is insane, he does well against T, and his vP is solid enough. I think he will definitely make up for his cost
Stork could get sniped by a zerg, but there's not too many good zergs out there to snipe him in the first place. vP and vT he will definitely do well in an all kill format. I only worry about his nerves.
I chose Lux because when Flash eventually drops the ball, who else is KTF going to put out? I knew he would have a lot of air time, and he will likely start winning soon. vP he will be at a disadvantage, and zergs have been having trouble against terrans recently, but I think Lux will be able to pull out some surprising cool streaks.
Yarnc because he is OGN's other ace player and I don't think Leta will be able to carry the team in an all kill format. He just doesnt have that dominating feeling to him yet. I expect good things from mr yellow.
Oversky because he is Ace's best player with no real MU weakness... just a general lack of practice. I expect him to do better than everyone expects. Was considering Much instead though... still might change that.

Jaedong: More expensive than Lux, occasionally loses games to scrubs with bad judgement
FBH: Oh FBH... how I wanted to choose you... but I couldn't because of your obvious vP weakness
Much: I expect him to do well in an all kill but he's been doing so bad recently it's hard to have faith.

My team, altough i'm changing it really often, like in every half an hour:
Team: STX - Only 4 point for one of the top 4 team, worths it
Jaedong (Captain) - I <3 JD, and i have high expectation towards him, some OCWs please
Hwasin He's on Fire, and beacause STX is my team i must have faith in STX players
BoxeR Only 1 point and he will bring a point even if SKT does not use him.
by.hero He costs 1 point too, and might win games cuz he showed some spectacular games lately
Luxury Only 3 points and the new format really helps KTF so even if Flash OCWs, he brings one Point
JangBi This is a hard choise, i was thinking on Kal so i would have 2 more points, but he's jsut too inconsistent and i need a good KHAN player, and a toss too
I wanted Skyhigh on my roster, i might have him after all, right now this is how i stand

Yeah you undertand it. Although it doesnt matter if hes the only member of KTF in your team. You'd get a point for each member of KTF on your team if KTF won.
The point system as i understand it soley based on the last PL round. KTF is cheap beacuse they did so poorly. Flash+Lux are half the cost of jaedong+forgg beacuse they would have score you half the points. The whole fun of this round is finding players who were poor last round but will thrive in all kill format. Anyone can guess who they'll be but no-one really knows beacuse its a entirely new system and for me if Hot-Bid or someone scewed the points system to try and take all-kill into account it would take allot the challenge of it.
My opinion anyway.

Exactly fantasy pl isn't about picking the best players it's about picking the most cost effective players which usually means ones that did bad last round (cheap) that will do good this round. The new format makes this even more difficult/interesting this time around.

If somebody wants to base his team on Lecaf OZ, and buys the Team, JD and FOrgg thats 23 points. If somebody wants to base on KTF he buys the Team, Lux+Flash and thats 11 points!
And the team who gained the most with this All-kill format IS KTF. Flash+Lux (even though Lux seems to slump i'm confident in his skills he's a hard worker and he will show results) should clean up more than the half of the current pro-teams with no problem, and have a decent shot vs ANY team. And you still have 19 points left, and buy two more strong idividual players from 2 top teams. (JD/Bisu/FBH/whoever) I would build my team like this, my only problem is i really dislike KTF
And i would have a question! If i have KTF_Firefist and he's the only member from KTF in my team if KTF wins a match i get +1 point because of him instantly? And not loose any if KTF looses. Did i undertand it correctly?
The player pricing is completely objective. We don't have any personal input or bias. We take the stats and scores from the previous round and directly turn them into the costs for the next round.
We can't base the costs of how good they should be or are expected to be because that is open for debate. We base it off of how good they have been recently in Proleague. Luxury has been sucking recently in Proleague... so he is only 3 points. Maybe he will turn it around, maybe he won't. No one can know for certain.
If you have Firefist on your team, he earns a point whenever KTF wins. He does not lose or gain points when his teammates win or lose, he does not lose points if KTF loses, he only earns a single point if his team (KTF) wins the whole match.

Firstly thanks for the answer, secondly i understood why Luxury is so cheap, but how can be KTF for free? They are siginficantly better than ACE, and not weaker than Wemade, CJ, estro, at least on recent statistics i saw on scforall.
P.S: TL left the PL weekly writeups? Spiralarchitect used to do it, but now for weeks/months there's no article about PL

KTF only got 2 points in round 2. They went 4-7 with 4 0-3 losses.

I voted 0 changes on the poll yesterday, then had a dream about Fantasy PL anyway =/
Lomo's dyed hair has taken some time for him to settle in to, but trust me, that badass new colour is going to translate into wins this PL.

Reasons why I chose the following:
1. BoxeR - well, he's BoxeR man! nuff said! The Emperor shall return!
2. Bisu - what's there not to say about him? He's a living toss legend (and my favorite toss player though I can never do his build and ended up sticking with Best build which is still cool...)
3. Flash - Obviously in a terran based team, we definitely need this guy...
4. sAviOr - At first, I thought he was going to be just a zerg placement for my fantasy but after seeing that MSL of Bisu and sAviOr... I'm glad I made this decision! lol!
5. NaDa - Same reason as 3........
6. iloveoov - ok, honestly I wasn't thinking of putting this guy until I realized he's actually playing on the first winner league!!!! MUST PUT HIM....

You can only request players to be traded, not specific trades. Those trades are pretty imbalanced in favor of the owner who has Savior or Zero, so I really doubt they will be offered.

There won't be trades between Week 1 and Week 2. You can request players you want to trade after Week 2. Keep in mind that you can only request individual players you want traded, not specific trades.
For example, in your PM to semioldguy:
1. I'd like to trade Stork (for a player to be determined by semi).
2. I'd like to trade Stork for Leta.
#1 is OK, #2 is not.

Fantasy Trading Thread
You can either post about which players you want to dump off in that thread or send me a PM. Generally you will want to request a trade before the week is completely over (or just as it ends) because trades will be up shortly after the last games of each week and I on't be adding to them if I get requests after the fact, you'd just have to wait an extra week at that point. So no, now is not too early to say something like "Hey, Stork is sucking balls right now and I'd like to trade him away"
