Kennigit Edit: If you ask a question that has been answered in this OP, in the following comments, or is just plain retarded - 2 week ban (that means your CANT enter the lottery). Read this effing thread!
For the next week, registration for the shirt lottery will be open. If your username is selected from the lottery, you will have the opportunity to purchase a shirt.
Lottery Requirements It will cost roughly $30 plus shipping. If you cannot purchase a shirt, please do not register for the lottery. In order to be eligible for the lottery, you must have registered your TeamLiquid.net account before July 1st 2008. Banned users cannot enter the lottery.
Lottery Details We received 100 shirts from CJ Entus. Eighteen have been reserved for staff members, distributed at our discretion. TeamLiquid does not pay its staff members for the countless hours of volunteer work they do. We see this as an opportunity to reward our contributors for their hard work. After all, without our site staff, we would never have gotten the chance to have these shirts. One shirt was won by DrHelvetica in the TL Attack! JianFei reaver kill count contest. One special, autographed shirt will be reserved for a charity auction (details later).
That leaves 80 shirts for the lottery. Everyone who enters will have an equal chance at winning. You will select your location, then your three top color/size choices. The number available in each color and size per location is listed. You may have to make a strategic decision on sizes or colors, as quantities are extremely limited, especially for large shirts.
We will do the drawing at the end of the week and announce the winners once the drawing is complete and also by PM.
Good luck!

Hotbid got a medium. I think he's 5'7 and fairly thin and it fits him well. Im 6'2'' 185 lbs and im going to get a large. Im fairly sure korean sizes are smaller than north american even if they are both "large"

Are the "small", "medium", and "large" standard? I know different brands have different versions of these sizes... Is there some measurement that would be more standard? Thanks.
Edit: Sort of like what Kennigit posted on page 1.

Savior wears a 100 - Medium. See the size of his arm and how it forms around his arm? That should give you a rough estimate.

First of all, did someone measure the exact sizes of the chests? That would be a big help to know if 100 is exactly 100 or if it's 105 or something.
Secondly, if we are selected, but then our size/color isn't available, do we not get a shirt, or do we get a PM asking if we still want one of a different size/color? I think medium is my size, but I'm sure I'd fit in a small; it just might be a little more form-fitting. E.G. if I selected M/W, M/B, and S/W, as my three, but there were only small blacks left when I'm picked, would I not get one?
Thirdly, are you putting restrictions on sale or trade of shirts? Or are we going to have people who don't want one signing up, then making 50 bucks profit on ebay when they're selected?
The answers to my 1st and 2nd question will affect what I choose when I enter.

Each color+size per location is a mini-lottery. So essentially your name gets put into 3 lotteries of the 6 possible (3 sizes of each color). If you are selected you get a shirt in whichever category you win in. If you are selected in multiple ones you get your top choice. If you don't get selected in any of the lotteries you get no shirts.
As for sale or trade, there's nothing we can really do to completely prevent one of these from showing up on ebay. But I hope that people who are entering are truly CJ fans and will love keeping the shirts. And if one or two are sold? I guess free market forces will prevail, and a true person that wants it will eventually have one. So it's not that bad, either way.
edit: Kennigit also answered this.

Ok, they look pretty cool so I'm in.

I really hope they decide to make more. I don't see the point in selling so many fewer than demand. It's one thing to make like half of what you expect to sell, but it seems like they're going with less than 5% of what would sell, based on how fast they sold in Korea. You can still make it special without making it so exclusive. I bet most proleague matches won't even have 1 person who got one in the audience.
If anyone has any information on their reasoning why they only chose to make 500, or any rumors on them making more, please share it with us.

If the server mysteriously goes down until the drawing, will you just go with the 80 sign ups so far (everybody wins!)?

#80 So basically it took hardly more than 1H1/2 to "sell" all the shirts. Sick. I hope I win one so I can wear it at WCG and make all the other TeamLiquidians jealous And if the signed shirt for the auction has Ma Jae Yoon's signature, the charity you picked will get rich!

Thanks! Your entry has been received. You are entrant #100. Good luck!
QUESTION! do the three choices in the lottery actually matter? in other words, would choosing one option (and leaving the other two as none) be any different than choosing three different options?
like, when you draw one guy with 3 options, would you go through each option and try to fulfill his order first, or would it be like "hey this other guy only wanted this one size and color, i can give him that and give the first guy one of his other options"?
|
there should be a penalty like if you get selected in the lottery and you don't buy a shirt you should get banned or something
|
also, can someone post the how many of each size are available? i already entered the lottery and i cant go back to view the numbers

They aren't drawing from 1 pool. There are 12 pools, and you may enter 3 of them. For example: There is a Medium/White/USA pool. Everyone who had medium/white/usa as one of their three entries will get their name in that pool. They will draw 9 winners from that pool, plus probably a couple "back-ups" in case someone wins in multiple pools or someone doesn't respond after being announced a winner in that pool.
So yes, there are two factors that will make some pools have better odds than others: 1) the number of shirts in the pool, and 2) the number of people who choose to enter that pool. So while you may think, "not many shirts in the large pools, so I'll enter medium to increase my odds," if a lot of people do that, the increased number of entries in the medium pools may outweigh the smaller number of shirts in the large pools. Similarly, although people may enter small because it has the highest number of shirts, it may also get the highest number of entries simply because that's the only variable we can view. I'd just enter in what size you think fits you, and what color you like best, in order.
If you are drawn in multiple pools, you win whichever one was higher on your list of preferences.
Europe Style # Small / Black 7 Small / White 7 Medium / Black 10 Medium / White 3 Large / Black 2 Large / White 4 USA Style # Small / Black 11 Small / White 11 Medium / Black 10 Medium / White 9 Large / Black 4 Large / White 3
|
i think its just a drawing and priority on what the shirt get. like #1 has first choice, (if not, 2nd choice then 3rd), if none are available it goes to the next queue, #2 up to ~#100 maybe. (just what I thought that made sense, other than drawing from 12 different shirt pools)
thanks for correction.

funny how Europe have less "large" shirts then USA

I don't think it'll cost $5 to Finland since the TL-shirt shipping was big for me. But if anyone can tell me the shipping to Finland I can consider it better.

I'm still working out the cheapest shipment option, but it'll probably be around 5 euros for anywhere in europe I think.

The number they made wasn't based on demand. They sold out in Korea in less than an hour, and still they have not stated any intentions of making more, from what I have heard. Teamliquid has no control over them making more, and no control over whether we would be able to get any more even if they do in fact produce a second run of these (besides requesting them).
Hopefully enough people in Korea contact CJ Entus begging them to make more. I'd write them myself, but I don't speak Korean.
|
What size should I get? It's bad if the size won't fit if I decide to enter The Lottery .
I use Medium now for most of my t-shirts and that fits really good!
So, Korean size = Europe? I assume it isn't the same. Gah, so many questions, I don't want to be dissatisfied that's all

This is a fundamental failing of human beings. I'm a researcher in a laboratory full of PhDs and even these supposedly intelligent people will chase me down at the weekend to ask a question, the answer to which I've provided in available documentation or even on brightly coloured labels affixed directly to the equipment they're using. It's kinda fun seeing all the lurkers (myself included) coming out of the woodwork. It's also somewhat discouraging that I'm after one of seven large shirts considering it's probably the most sought after.
With odds like that, I think it's time to turn to superstition. Sorry Richard Dawkins, I want a CJ shirt.

A Korean large (105) is in between most American mediums and larges. I guess many people still haven't figured it out: the number is the chest measurement in centimeters. That means a 105 (large) is about 41 inches at the chest. American larges are usually 44 inches at the chest, XLs are 48 inches at the chest, and XXLs are 52 inches. It will about a foot smaller at the chest than what you wear.
Most Americans and many Europeans will not fit into any of the sizes. That is why the staff took almost all the larges, despite not being "big" by American standards. That's why I'm kinda disappointed. Half the people that ARE lucky enough to win shirts are going to realize they don't fit, and either stick them in the closet or auction them on ebay. I'm only 5'7", but I need a medium because I work out. I can wear a small, but my chest will stretch it out. The average American is 5'10".

That way if people decide to be nice about their CJ shirts that don't fit them, they will notify people on TL first so that some other deals can be lined out. Sound good? [:
If you agree with me maybe after the drawing there could be another thread or an edit to the OP, just in case there are people interested in this kind of deal.

Payment will most likely be through PayPal or some other online equivalent and the winners will have a limited duration in which they must pay before someone else is picked.

Next time you may consider this team uniform. CJ is also perfectly fine I admit. Black ones look much better though. As for CJ same for MBC or whatever team. Players in white look somewhat like F1 drivers to me.

From reading this thread I get the feeling that there are going to be a LOT of disappointed Americans. Clothes in north america are absolutely huge. I'm 5'6", 130lbs and it wasn't until I moved to Europe that I could consistently find adult clothes which actually fit me. Half the time nobody would stock anything smaller than a US/Canada size medium, which is like a large anywhere else in the world. Thank goodness that grunge was just coming into fashion during my teen years - at least baggy and oversized was cool then, lol! I'm picturing the stunned faces now as people begin to open their lucky new CJ shirts only to find them replaced with childrens clothing 0_o That said, if anyone ends up with a size small that doesn't stand a chance of fitting them, I've got a crisp £50 note to trade for it

80 shirts between 651 people is like 12% chance of winning right? Considering that there's nothing to lose (by entering. Meaning you don't have to buy your number), that's pretty good.
Does anyone know if there is a waiting period after registering with paypal? If not, then I may as wait until I win before registering.
Or I can just make a money order if that's ok. And for those of you thinking "omg money order lolz kennigit will steal your money", I'm pretty sure hundreds of KENNIGIT STOLE MY MONEY threads outweighs $30

Less or more then 12% i mean i'm guessing like atlest 75% of the request are for large and medium esp in black.
If you wear small either you are lucky are all small people don't like to post must be a small person thing.

overall, this will probably be close to 1 in 10 chance of winning. but then you need to take into consideration what sizes people ordered, against the number of shirts available, and with up to 3 options, one's chances drop quite a bit. especially if you want a large
for USA, there are 22 smalls, 19 meds, and 7 larges

If I win, I am going to have a contest of some sort where I will award the winner my shirt.

well I'm pretty sure I can fit a small because my shirts are mostly small and I'm not from USA (medium is loose on me, but sometimes my shoulders are a bit tight in small if the store has midget clothing). Ordered mediums and a small so if I'm drawn I should get a shirt. It must suck to be large.
For those that win then fail, maybe they should get something else to make up for it? like a cjshirt.jpg

I also joined after the required date and really don't understand why it is like that. Honestly, I am a reader of tl since watching the start of the gomtv star inv, but after reading through the board, I saw that there are over 90% of things actually I do not won't to read nor to be connected with. and now tl, bring back more news about starcraft in korea, thats were the site lacks for the last few weeks at least...

Because people who have been IN the community and not just observing it deserve a chance to get it above those who just joined in the past 2 months, some of them in hopes of getting these shirts.

As was explained before several times, without a join date restriction its pretty easy for people to just make a second account (if they are smart, from another IP address) and use that to enter as well. That screws up the entire concept of a lottery. Also, we want our shirts to go to community members, not people that see this as a free shot and have never browsed TL.net.
The "nonsense" that you can't be bothered to post or be connected with is what others consider participating and interacting with a community. If you want to sit and watch VODs by yourself feel free, but I certainly wouldn't want to give a shirt to someone who will never post about it or about CJ, and certainly not someone who doesn't want to participate or be connected with the community.
I finally joined to express my thoughts about the lottery finding out that I can't be in it anyway.. sad but thats my point anyway...

I think that reason alone is enough reason for others to get the shirts and not you. I stay up incredibly late or get up early to watch every time CJ plays in proleague and every time XellOs or Savior play in individual leagues (usually starts around 5am local time). I often make a few comments in the livecast threads, as any die-hard fan would do. I'm pretty sure I would get a lot more enjoyment and use out of a shirt than someone who thinks commenting in livecast threads is stupid, and couldn't even go through the trouble of registering for the site.
There's obviously even more important reasons to not let new accounts enter the lottery, but pretty much any true fan that knows of the site would have registered, whether it's to have the opportunity to post or create threads when the need arises, or just for liquibet or PMs. As it is, I doubt a quarter of the entrants are real CJ Entus fans; I've seen multiple people complaining after entering about a 30 dollar shirt being too pricey, saying "I wish it were (some other team)," or acknowledging no size will fit them. Sadly, most of the shirts are going to go to people like this. Without registration limits, 90% of the shirts would have gone to people like this. At least I know a couple dozen will be worn with pride.
|
I agree 100% with LonelyMargarita. When the very first poll was issued, I guess I answered "no", because I am a Lecaf fan. But CJ is #2 so I quickly changed my mind after thinking about it for 1/4s. I can have Ma Jae Yoon's shirt for 30$ !?! All these times I posted "stupid" one-liners like "Go Savior! I still believe!" actually meant something. I and many others suffered the mockery of FBH fans countless times. Many kept cheering for CJ even when they got trounced hard in Proleague. These guys deserve the shirts most. Good luck to them (me included) I hope I can wear my CJ shirt for Savior's next MSL final (yeah, I still believe...)

At least I know a couple dozen will be worn with pride.
yeah i agree and ill be one of the couple dozen who will wear it with pride

pretty sure even in the US and Canada M wouldn't be considered a good fit there. I used to be that height/weight, and I definitely did not find an american M a comfortable fit.

alright thanks haha i know those korean boys are small @_@

For the first time in hundreds of years, I am happy for being a 3 feet midget.
And if I don't win, I'll send Idra a PM and make him an offer (for one of his shirts) he can't refuse.

sadly, LonelyMargarita and Hot_Bid totally missed my point!
saying I'm not a fanboy may be wrong (for ex.I really like stork and the cj players, esp. xellos), I watched the proleague final with a korean flag on me and I doubt that most of the ppl here have btw I played about one hour of starcraft in my life but I already watched endless hours of games over a year....
what I meant is that I don't like the way ppl talk about other progamers on the board. I don't like those bogus predictions, most of them failed anyway and thats why I decided not to register. I don't like that power rank and this unexplainable hate against stork. Makes me this not a fan? (meaning not trashing anybody else at the same time)
I'm even sure that I watched the national geographic documentary about cj more often in replay than anyone else, but ppl should not think that someone maybe not at the same level of fandom just because he isn't registered (or at least that long)
In my county, 30 dollars is nearly nothing and overall, it is sad not to be able to participate altough I didn't finally join "just" for a shirt.

So you don't really like teamliquid..the forums...the bogus predictions, power rank, random people not liking a player...but we should make a special exception lol.
This is both a safeguard against multiple accounts and to reward the people who make teamliquid what it is.

Same here. I have always liked CJ Entus since their SUMA GO team days. Back in the days when they have no money and how Xellos solely carried the team is something that touched me. The shirt isn't just a luxury to me : it is a priceless celebration of how far CJ had gone till today.

News are written here for people who want to read them, and I am happen to be one of those beautiful and valued users that do exactly this. Number of posts written does not implicate penis lenght, inteligence or affiliation with the community, no matter how hard you try.

If the posts are decent, or are in some way giving something back to the community, it does show a greater affiliation than someone who just reads the news on the site. I can understand coming in just for the news to begin with, but TL is more than just SC news. Does that mean that someone who registered before the cut off limit shouldnt participate? no it doesnt, it just means that when alot of shirts are given to users with under 20 posts people will get mad, as they haven't given back anything to the community to deserve one as much as someone whos been contributing for years.
As for your first bit of being "a beautiful and valued user" to just read the news, 99% of the people who post on tl most likely read the news threads, as well as all the little bits of news in the other areas of the site, that don't hit the news area. So just by lurking doesn't prop you up on a pedestal above everyone as most are doing what you are, and more.

I've got to say I am using teamliquid.net very frequently as well! I do not see the sense in answering to all threads and if there is a good question I am sure there is somebody out there who is more competent to answer! But I am a big fan of OSL / MSL and I am watching basically all the vods available so why should somebody like me have a worse chance to get picked?

The general view will be along the lines of this.
You two posters who join at the same time, say a year ago.
One person spends 99% of his time lurking, and comes out to post once every few months.
The other posts a few times everyday, creates threads, etc... overall becomes a contributing member of the community.
Then a contest is initiated saying only people who joined on X date are eligible and these two are the only ones allowed. General view would be the guy who posts and contributes is who should win, and not the one who appears once in a blue moon to say something.
Do i agree with it, to a point, i would much prefer active posters who go out of their way to do things for the site to win, over someone who just lurks. I've contributed to this site, and sure want a shirt, but i know of users who deserve one way way more than I do, and yet the contest isnt to those deserving so much as it is those who get lucky. Hense a lottery.
If alot of forum reg's dont win one, and alot of lurkers who never post win them, and once won will either a)vanish after sayign thankyou b)vanish completely, c)become more active or d) be fucktards.
Regardless people although will say things like "congradulations" or the like, people will still resent it. Just accept the fact that people don't want to see lurkers win, they want to see names of users who they know, or recognize win.
As for the sense of posting on TL, you can meet people here, who generally are pretty decent people, you get to contribute to an online entity that you deeply enjoy, learn things outside the scopes of just the game, etc... This site means alot to many people, try browsing through more than the starcraft news and you might find things you want to post in or the like, but dont dismiss posting because "someone is more qualified" There usually is, but it doesn't mean your voice doesnt carry any weight.

There's nothing wrong with reading the news or browsing TL for information and VODs. Doing this however doesn't entitle you to anything, even though both your posts seem to imply it does entitle you to a lottery ticket.
I don't see why you feel everyone who simply reads news here should default to having a chance at a shirt. We reserved shirts for staff for reasons like contribution and participation, and you obviously don't feel like you deserve an equal chance as they do at having one.
Participation and interaction with the community is something that has value, its something that generates at least some sort of worth to other users in the forum. Yes, some people just spam or whatever, but that still counts, and the Moderators weed out the truly bad ones.
We set a bottom line, and the cutoff is pretty low (anyone who registered before one month ago). Even though we wanted this lottery to be pretty egalitarian (no postcount bias), we still feel that we should encourage user registration and participation here, since we did make the connections and actually get the shirts. That's not too much to ask is it? Many websites require registration to even view the content they have.
Look on the brightside, in the future at least you'll have an account that is registered. But don't let it sit there at < X posts, because future contests and events might have a minimum postcount requirement. Who knows??

As for news on the lottery itself, please stand by as we're figuring out how to get payment processed, and we'll announce the winners when we have that information.

well, i hate to say it, but there is a difference in the subsets within the community. for instance, tl.net consists of people who enjoy the game, in playing or watching it. but that community wouldnt exist if there were only one population - what if everyone here simply came here often and posted nothing? there would be little content, little contributions, little health, and the community would deteriorate. there needs to be active members, people who breathe life into the scene. writing articles, uploading videos, discussing games, these are all little things, but they all add up to the teamliquid experience.
in a nutshell, this is a thanks to those who have been here for the long run and help make tl.net the place it is

I have to agree to a degree. Of course my input isn't as big as other people who are bigger SC fans then myself and are actively participating in the community, but I am still a part of it. The news are written to be read, and that's what I do. The writer if asked would probably be quite satisfied knowing that I come here every now and then and read the post he wrote, and appreciate it enough to come back again. Because me, and many others like me, make this website visited and successful, and his effort worthwhile.
And Hot_Bid, if your aim to have a number of users generating an amount of random posts to have a chance at lotteries, you need bots, not humans.

And Hot_Bid, if your aim to have a number of users generating an amount of random posts to have a chance at lotteries, you need bots, not humans. You are a member of this community, there's no doubting that. However, in order to truly contribute you must post and be active. Nobody is judging you for not doing that. It's not a requirement, we don't make you do this to read the news or get the VODs or watch our programs. You come here to read news, you get to read news. Nobody is taking that away from you. That's fine.
Yes we value people that read news and are interested in progaming. But we are not a pay site--we're all volunteers. Our news is generated FROM the community. Thus, simply reading our news is not "making" or "building" or "contributing" as you seem to imply. Actually doing something is. If everyone just came to read news and did what you did, we'd have no site, and no news for you to read. Thus we want to encourage registration and posting. This isn't something crazy, every forum wants more users and more posts. What's so wrong or unfair with that?
It took us quite a bit of effort to build the reputation and connections required to get these shirts, and we're selling them at 0 profit to as many of our community members as possible. Its amazing that some people would complain that they don't get a fair chance at them when they haven't taken 5 minutes to register and post on our forums.
For the reasons stated above, and for multiple-entry fairness concerns, we wanted the shirts to go to people who have registered. Maybe in the future we'll only want stuff to go to people who have 500+ posts, or people who have contributed. Whatever the cutoff is, I feel our reasons are perfectly justified and fair. We didn't sign some contract stating that you are entitled to a shirt by simply visiting our website and reading our content.
In addition, I think this lottery is quite successful in accomplishing our goals. It got you to register, didn't it?
