Shinhan Bank Proleague 2007 Round 1 - Run to the Post-Season
[image loading]

With only two weeks to go until the post-season starts, I guess it would be ideal to see who is in contention for them 4 spots in the playoffs.

Obviously we will have a look at the table as of 7/4.

+ Show Spoiler [Results and Standings] +

RankTeam NameWin-LossOverall stats1v1 stats2v2 stats
1.Samsung KHAN15-449-29 (+20)34-2515-4
2.STX Soul13-647-34 (+13)40-227-12
3.Lecaf OZ12-743-33 (+10)34-239-10
4.MBCGame HERO12-846-32 (+13)*37-219-11
5.CJ Entus11-944-39 (+4)*35-289-11
6.OGN Sparkyz10-941-38 (+2)*29-3112-7
7.KTF MagicNs9-1042-44 (-2)32-3510-9
8.SK Telecom T17-1241-44 (-3)36-305-14
9.Hanbitstars7-1234-43 (-10)*22-3612-7
10.eSTRO7-1230-43 (-14)*21-339-10
11.Pantech EX7-1339-50 (-12)*29-4010-10
12.Air Force ACE6-1427-52 (-26)*18-419-11

As you can see, Samsung KHAN are riding high at the top of the table, with a secured playoffs berth with an impressive 15-4 record. 2nd and 3rd are big suprises in STX Soul and Lecaf OZ, who in previous proleagues, have struggled to perform to the likes of KTF and SK Telecom. The last of the playoff spots is a very interesting race as MBCGame HERO, CJ Entus and OGN Sparkyz all vying for it. KTF MagicNs, SK Telecom T1, Hanbitstars, eSTRO, Pantech and Air Force ACE are unfortunately out of conention. They must have to look forward to next season.

The next two weeks for the top 6 teams are all important, let's take a look at the important ones one by one for each team and their perspective on it.

+ Show Spoiler [Samsung KHAN] +

Samsung KHAN
7/9 - MBCGame HERO
7/15 - CJ Entus
7/17 - STX Soul

An extremely tough road for Samsung KHAN if they want to keep that finals ticket in their hands and not have to go through they playoffs. Playing some very tough opposition in MBC, CJ and STX, it all depends if Samsung decide to send out their younger, rookie players to give them some exposure, or bring on the big guns to mop up the opposition and screw things over in terms of standings.

+ Show Spoiler [STX Soul] +

STX Soul
7/8 - Lecaf OZ
7/11 - Pantech EX
7/17 - Samsung KHAN

STX has a partially easier road, only having to face a weak team in Pantech once. STX has upsetted both Lecaf and Samsung before this season in nail-biting 5th set ace games, so may we see STX topple over Samsung at the top? It just depends on the luck of the entry and how well the opponent is doing.

+ Show Spoiler [Lecaf OZ] +

Lecaf OZ
7/8 - STX Soul
7/11 - Air Force ACE
7/17 - OGN Sparkyz

Shoving away the lowly ACE team, the only question is will they topple STX and OGN? Lecaf have lost to both of these teams previously this season, so they must perform their best and make sure that their all-star standard lineup of Anytime/Jaedong/2v2 Team/fOrGG do not get countered in the entries.

+ Show Spoiler [MBCGame Hero] +

MBCGame Hero
7/9 - Samsung KHAN
7/15 - OGN Sparkyz

Although only having 2 games left, they are against tough opponents in Samsung and OGN, who will not let MBC with an easy win withought a fight. It will all depend on Sea performing to his highest peak, as well as other stars such as Bisu, Pusan and Light contributing.

+ Show Spoiler [CJ Entus] +

CJ Entus
7/9 - OGN Sparkyz
7/15 - Samsung KHAN

Facing OGN and Samsung, it doesn't look all too good for CJ for the playoffs. CJ lost to both OGN and Samsung earlier this season, so it will depend if veterans sAviOr, XellOs and Iris show up to their best, while chums DarkElf and Much try their best to contribute to the best of their ability.

+ Show Spoiler [OGN Sparkyz] +

OGN Sparkyz
7/9 - CJ Entus
7/15 - MBCGame HERO
7/17 - Lecaf OZ

After losing to SK Telecom after sending out mediocre Terran Bifrost to play against Midas in the ace match causing a loss, OGN's hopes of a playoff berth have almost slipped away. CJ, MBC and Lecaf have the same views as OGN, and if OGN don't get their act together, there will be no playoffs for them.

The play-off format is a Best of 7, with 5 1v1's and 2 2v2's. The first play-off is 3rd place vs 4th, and the second playoff game is the winner of the first playoff vs 2nd place. The final is the winner of the second playoff vs 1st place.

Key Dates
July 17th - Last day of round-robin Proleague matches.
July 22nd - Post-season starts, first Playoff game.
July 28th - Second Playoff game.
August 4th - Round 1 Grand Final

T_T t1, whyyyy!

it must be really frustrating to be a player at lecaf if you're not part of the forgg, jaedong and anytime triumvirate. doesn't the decision to constantly play them in 1v1s burn them out and stunt the growth of their up and comers?

Awesome post GTR!

PL has certainly been exciting this season. The playoffs should be no different.

Wonder what Lecaf will do in the BO7s. Who else do they have that they can send out?

Poor SKT and their crappy 2v2s... those games have made or broken entire bo5's.

Nice writeup.

Wow..this just shows how important 2vs2 is for proleague success. So cool how samsung's 2vs2 stats and overall stats match. Thanks a lot for the stats Carnac, nice post.

aww no KTF.
I predict the top 3 will stay in place. MBC has a good chance of staying 4th as well but I think CJ will take spot 4.

Man...SKT started out 5 and 0 and pulled sets like a 3-0 on MBC; what the hell happened?

Amazing to see STX and Lecaf up there after they were near the bottom (and I think AT the bottom occasionally, at least Lecaf). I guess proleague's a lot more than big-name individual stars (or maybe it's just plain unpredictable).

random (lazy) predictions: All top 4 will retain their current playoff spots =p

The real fun stat:

Individual Match stats:

1. STX Soul (only team with 40 1:1 wins!)
2. MBCgame HERO
3. SKTelecom T1

Since when did STX become good at 1v1?
returns upon momentous occasions.

well..., SKTT1 were forced into playing more 1v1 games, because they lost almost all their 2v2 games. their 1v1 winning ratio isn't top three

The real fun stat is:
15-4 Khan team. 2v2 games, 15-4.

Social Justice is a fools errand. May all the adherents at its church be thwarted. Of all the religions I have come across, it is by far the most detestable.
