It’s Wildcard Time! Since Oversky decided to pull a Boxer and withdraw from the tournament, MBC is holding a Wildcard round with the 8 eliminated members of the round of 16 to see who can snake their way back into contention.

jkillashark’s results and standings thread

June 14th – 18:30 Korean
Game 1
Nal_rA < Desperado > EVer)T(Sheis
Game 2
Light[aLive] < Monty Hall > stork
Game 3
iloveoov < Python > Sea[Shield]
Game 4
XellOs < Python > Ever)P(TT

Nal_rA (P) vs. Ever)T(Sheis (T)

@ Desperado

Seeing as Ra was the one to take Boxer’s seed when he created this exact Wildcard situation last MSL, there are obviously going to be eyes on him to pull it off again. This first match up definitely seems to be a good one for him too. Ra faced two solid Terrans in the group stages, beating Canata and splitting games with Boxer. He’s also performed well in PvT proleague games considering the wild number of them that he has played (5-4 PvT this season). We should also keep in mind that July eliminated him in R16 and the way that madman is playing right now, it seems he would have walked over anyone in his path.

Sheis has not played a single Protoss in the MSL yet, completely avoiding the race in the group stages and losing 2-1 to his teammate Hwasin last week. Based on that it seems that he might not have a chance against the veteran, but he is 2-0 in Proleague TvPs and has shown very solid play in general since the MSL prelims. When the competition reaches this level, there are no easy matches. This should be a good one.

Light (T) vs. Stork (P)

@ Monty Hall

After Light’s now infamous map blunder last week, many are throwing into question the strength of Bisu’s win over him in the round of 16. Even if we chalk those losses up to bad mojo, Light has still to win a single TvP in PL and has failed to step up against strong opponents other than a group stage win against midas. This second chance will eliminate any excuses and show us exactly what Light is made of.

Stork, on the other hand, has been on the up and up for a while now, sporting an impressive 10-3 PL record and making a highlight reel of the MSL since the prelims with a laundry list of name players on his victory list including, Much, Reach and Sea. He went through groups undefeated and with a full head of steam... smashed into a wall we call Savior. Just like Ra, he has nothing to be ashamed of in losing to such a powerful Zerg. He’s my favourite to take the Wildcard spot and I don’t see Light stopping him given the current momentum of each of their MSL runs.

iloveoov (T) vs. Sea (T)

@ Python

We haven’t seen a whole lot from Oov recently. He has played few PL games compared to other name players, though his record is phenomenal, and he just came off of a tough loss to FireBatHero, blowing the series after taking the lead by winning the first game.

Sea has been playing incredibly well outside of his somewhat surprising 0-2 dismantling at the hands of GoRush last round. He is 11-4 in PL and is always a key of MBC’s line up. This game will certainly be interesting as it’s hard to determine which of these Terrans is actually playing better right now.

Xellos (T) vs. Ever)P(TT (P)

@ Monty Hall / Python

It’s interesting that the two easiest marks in the 8 man group are facing off at the bottom of the line up. Xellos has not looked strong at all recently. He barely clawed his way out of the first round behind Sheis in one of the least competitive groups of the tournament and was run over easily by 910, a mediocre Terran to put it kindly, in the round of 16. Add to that a sad PL record and you have a less than perfect, Perfect Terran.

Let’s not be too hard on Xellos though, SamsungKhan doesn’t even bother to use Ever in PL 1v1s. (But he’s undefeated in 2v2s with Sigamari so we’ll forgive him ) He did manage to make it out of a veritable group of death, but his victories are tainted with the stench of cheesy all-in builds and let’s be honest, if history has taught us anything, pulling off a proxy gateway build on midas in a clutch game isn’t much to brag about.
I don’t want to sound too hard on these guys because the match may very well be incredibly entertaining, but it will most likely be irrelevant seeing as neither of them looks to be strong enough to steal the one remaining spot from any of the other 6 players.

I won’t speculate on situations after the first round since anything can happen. Hopefully this background on the players gives enough context to the matches. You can keep up with what is going on in the live report thread that will inevitably pop up later tonight.

Wonder how I manage to pull all those PL stats out of the air? Check out one of the best topics ever started here at TL, Carnac’s Shinhan Proleague 2007 Results and Standings.

Be sure to thank him for doing it. It’s meticulously well organized and constantly updated as the PL moves on. It’s a lot to keep up with, and he should know we appreciate it.

I want rA

iloveoov and stork if that's not possible.

and then sea or light; but I don't really like more terrans ;; oov already is questionable. It's only because I like bananas too.

How does this work? Are they all bo1s? Then winners go on until only one is left standing?

So 7 matches tonight? Or are they playing the games out over a couple weeks?

I'm assuming that the winner of Ra/Sheis plays the winner of Light/Stork, and the winners of the other two play.

Than the winners of those matches play for the wildcard spot.

So 3 wins in a row gets the spot.

This should be an awesome night of games. I'm hoping Stork, rA, or at least TT wins it.

It's a shame about the matchups in the RO8, why on earth do July and GoRush have to meet there?

It's basically like PSL format except bo1s instead of bo3s.

Vicious.

It's a little vague in your descriptions. There are a lot of people who don't know what "map blunder" even implies. Neither do I know what you're talking about.

I was refering to the fact that Light practiced on the wrong version of the map and was unaware that he couldn't build turrets in the center. He lost the game and the momentum of the series.

Was there anything else that you needed clarification on?
