This time around we have Froz versus Ret. As you all know, Froz’s level of play can vary within a wide skill range on any given day. In the last Liquibition Froz managed to overcome the Canned Canadian with an iffy 6-5 score while using all three races. Only Froz himself knew if he was going to try or not versus Ret. As TL.net’s premiere RJ and someone who is friends with countless Koreans, he is not a Zerg to be taken lightly. Some people actually consider him a threat to Naz’s title of #1 WCG Holland this year, as he has something to prove after the WDT mishap. Can the Disgruntled Dutchman overcome the Adroit American?

BTW, I changed for the format to best-of-7 for the players’ and my own convenience. Best-of-11 was just far too much for exhibition matches.

Game 1
Map: The Lost Temple
The Game: Froz Terran at 9, Ret Zerg at 6. Ret early expanded and went for Muta while Froz went 2 port wraiths. Froz easily killed many overlords and scourges and appeared to be winning, meanwhile Ret desperately scrounged up as many hydra/scourge/muta as he could to fend off the accumulating wraith army. Each time Ret went to hit Froz’s wraiths with scourge, Froz would cloak and take no damage. Eventually Froz completely stopped harassing for no reason at all and built up M&M Tank and expanded. What looked like an easy win for Froz turned out to be a saddening loss as he didn’t protect his main and Ret kept dropping lings/lurkers and killing SCV’s.

1-0 Ret

Game 2
Map: Gaema Gowan
The Game: Froz Terran at 2, Ret Zerg at 5. Either Froz was just playing bad game 1, and didn’t think he would play any better game 2, or he wasn’t trying at all in this series. He opened with a double proxy rax in the center of the map. Of course, Ret has seen his fair share of pro-zerg replays and knows to scout diagonally first to catch any gayness antics. Ret then cancelled his morphing hatch and pooled up and then re-hatched in his main. Ret had sunken/lings before

Froz could do anything. Once Ret got speedlings he sprinted for Froz’s main and Froz knew his marines were far too slow to save his main, so he quit the game.

2-0 Ret

Game 3
Map: Neo Bifrost
The Game: Froz Zerg at top right, Ret Zerg at bottom left. Froz tried to 6 pool. Ret 9 pooled. Froz died.

3-0 Ret

Game 4
Map: The Lost Temple
The Game: Froz Terran at 3, Ret Zerg at 6. Froz went fast tank drop while Ret went early exp to muta. Froz’s tank drop came just before Ret’s spire finished and as Ret’s lurker upgrade was starting. The tanks killed Ret’s exp hatch but scourge killed the dropship before they could get away. Once a couple mutas dispatched of the tanks, Ret added 2 more hatches, one of which replaced his recently deceased hatch. Froz landed his exp CC and built up an army off of 3 raxes and 2 factories. Given the circumstances, Ret macro’d perfectly and amassed an army of hydra/lurk equal Froz’s army of M&M tank. When Froz came out to try and catch the macrolicious Zerg off guard, well-burrowed lurkers and a bunch of hydras devoured his entire army. Both players had lost most of their armies but by then Ret was much more powerful than Froz. Froz kept trying to attack but Ret just kept overwhelming him with hydra/lurk.

4-0 Ret.

Rekrul’s Rating of the game in this series is a 1 out of 10. This is basically as bad as they come. One game that should have been won by Froz but he played like crap, two failed cheeses, and a one sided rape by Ret.

It’s safe to say that Froz didn’t care much at all about these games. Ambiguity lives on. Though, Ret showed that he can’t be beaten if his opponent is going to slack off and that he’s not going to succumb to quibble cheese rushes. Next in the line-up is your favorite amateur pro-gamer, Legionnaire. Because this Aussie is not grandiose and keeps his skill on the low-down, it will be fun to see what he’s truly made of.

Enjoy the shitty replays~

im sure there were only a few people at san jose when he won it, and not much competition. froz is like that chess guy bobby fischer. he became #1 in a world beating the russians then he dissapeared and in a few years he came back and beat them again then disappeared again. FroZ and blackman are quite alike also. neither really do anything for a while then theyll come back, own everybody, then stay sorta low for a while. Or maybe froz is just one of those guys who is naturally good and really doesnt need to bother practicing. no matter what, hes definitely doing something right. so many people play year round some play 10 hours a day yet he just comes and wins wcg without practice. anyways

Froz just doesn't give a fuck about teamliquid.net. Shouldn't have been invited, but maybe(I guess) you didn't think he didn't care, or didn't ask yourself whether he cared or not before inviting him. Not once did he do a solid build opting for a gg. It seemed to have been like one of those things players do so that when they lose they can say "I was just messing around, trying things" at least to themselves.

I feel sorry for Ret

why don't they stop saying he didn't try...he played he lost that's enough. Or maybe they should let someone who would put some effort, these replays suck

You guys gave ret no credit at all, sure I like Froz more than Ret but that doesn't mean Froz will automatically win vs Ret. I give credits where it's due, and sure I think Froz did not seem to try in those games but I believe Ret won largely because of his skills too.

I think froz tried the first game, everything worked (he was really really lucky imo, finding about every wraith you can find) and he still didn't win. How discouraging is that? I think it's likely that he thought cheese gave him more %chance of winning after the 1st game than using his real skill.

Ret sux at zvz.

you serious shasta??? world news! :[

anyways, i think ret would still have won vs froz if froz really went fullout as FroZ' worst m/u is TvZ and Ret's ZvT is really great :o

gw ret
It has a strong technique, but it lacks oo.
