An underlying reason is how emotional HerO can be. We don't know how affected he was by his nerves this particular day, but losing a game to the opponent you're playing again in the ace match might (in HerO's case I might even say "probably will") leave you at a mental disadvantage. In his interview, HerO said that he wasn't feeling all that confident - and lacking confidence from the start isn't where you want to be in an SPL ace match against someone like Rain. The decision was wise, I agree, but it was certainly questionable.
