Friday night was... kinda lousy to be honest with you. I am really not enthused by the amount of games OGN is broadcasting, but at least I can take solace in the fact that it will not be 12 games a week for the entire season. Nonetheless, here is an abbreviated battle report from yesterday's games.

Game 1: Yellow[Name] (Z) vs Chojja (Z) on Cultivation Period

ChoJJa took the lead with his stronger micro after both players started with a 12 pool build. With his later gas, Yellow[Name] tried to catch up with more lings, but he could never make them count. This game was over quick as ChoJJa's scourge control never let Name gather a muta force. One decisive air battle later, and all that were left of Name's drones were skid marks on the creep. A quick game for SC's favorite garden gnome.

ChoJJa > Yellow[Name]

Game 2: July (Z) vs GoRush (Z) on Rush Hour III

July had picked GoRush as a strong contender, but he must have had a good idea that he could beat him. Otherwise, why pick? Anyways, it turned out to be a bad idea. After losing in the MSL earlier in the week, GoRush came back with a vengeance tonight, as his 7 pool easily defeated July's 12 hatch expansion build. In under 5 minutes, it was over.

GoRush > July

Game 3: Jju (Z) vs ShinHwa[Name] (Z) on 815 III

The third ZvZ of the night featured my favorite ZvZ player walking around these days. Jju is a monster lately, and he is also the captain of Samsung's proteam. He held his own well on this night, going up against a first timer in the OSL. His 12 pool gave him a huge advantage over Shinhwa's 9 pool. With a much earlier 2nd hatchery, he was able to expand to 7 for the second gas and from the point he played with caution. Finally, he ground down Shinhwa's air force and made a final attack for the win.

Jju > ShinHwa[Name]

Game 4: Sea[Shield] (T) vs GoodFriend (T) on Peaks

Sea had picked GF because he wanted to "choose a good terran opponent", but really he knew he would just look a lot better on TV opposite GoodFriend. Regardless, the game started intensely, and didn't stop until the end. Sea 8 rax'ed at GF's natural, and his constant rine production allowed him to get a much faster second factory. As GoodFriend defended the marines he expanded, which let Sea's vulture build wreck havoc with his defense. As rines surrounded his tanks, Sea put down a third factory behind GF's main. Totally unscouted, Sea was able to siege behind his main minerals.

All of this pressure wore GF down despite his competent defense. Sea was able to expand freely, and his base never felt any pressure. Soon enough Sea had blocked the left alley north while pushing down the right side. GF tried to counter, lost his army, and then lost two expansions as well as the game.

Rumour had it Sea had to play a quick game in order to get home in time to brush his teeth, say his prayers, and go to bed. Whatever the reason, he has now single-handedly destroyed most of the KTF big guns.

Sea[Shield] > GoodFriend

Game5: ZergMan (Z) vs Stay[HyO] (Z) on Peaks

This was easily the best ZvZ of the night. Stay took his expansion after his pool, and promptly had to defend it against Zergman's early lings. It survived, but was deep in the red by the time he secured it. As Zergman teched to air, Stay massed up his lings. ZergMan was forced to sunk his main in order to survive the onslaught. Stay's ling attack caused massive damage, but his own meager economy was ruined by two lings from Zergman, who reduced him to 4 drones himself.

From this point on, the game relied on under six drones for each player, a handful of air units for Zergman, and scourge/ling for Stay. The battles were numerous and intense, but at the end of it all Stay came out the winner. Zergman, truly disgusted, showed more emotion than most gamers do on TV. A must DL, whether you like ZvZ or not.

Stay[HyO] > ZergMan

Game 6: Yellow (Z) vs Midas (T) on 815

After 5 mirror matchups, OGN definitely made the last game a highlight. A resurgent Yellow took on Midas on 815. It has been a while since Yellow has been in the OSL, but he is still loved. He also has a great record, closing in on 100 wins and a winning % around 60%.

Yellow started at 1, with Midas at 5. Midas found yellow after building a rax below ground, and promptly started a bunker at Yellow's nat hatch. Yellow was forced to wait for his pool, and by that time there were 2 rines safely inside. His drones went way south in order to catch any reinforcements, while his lings took out the bunker. Yellow was way behind, but Midas was as well, having few troops and a single barracks floating back to his main.

Yellow took his reprieve to tech to lurkers, while Midas seemed oblivious to the danger and expanded with one barracks. As his lurkers incubated, Yellow built up a 2 group force of lings which promptly killed Midas' MM group. By the time Midas was ready to move out again, three lurkers from Yellow came south and cheated their way up the terran ramp. A quick gg from Midas, and Yellow was back in his winning ways.

Yellow > Midas

Next week there are ZERO mirror matchups. Here is the schedule for week 2:

4/26 Wednesday
iloveoov Chojja
GoRush <815 Ⅲ> Sync
Pusan Shinhwa
GoodFriend Child
Casy Zergman
Yellow Iris

4/28 Friday
Cloud Yellow[Name]
July <815 Ⅲ> Rock
Boxer Jju
Sea IntoTheRainbow
Nal_Ra Stay
Midas Stork

If you have any questions, you can post them here. As always, a big thanks to all those that keep this coverage going.

Have a good weekend,

Man, I like Zergman. Too bad he's likely to go 0-3 in his group. I really wanted to see him win atleast this game (I don't want him to win the remaining two because I want a rA Casy final)

Friday games were half and half. I thought the Shield>GooDFriend, Stay>ZergMaN, and YellOw>Midas games were good. The other 3 were (duh) mirror matchups, not just any but ZvZ. At least it wasn't 4 TvT's (oh God, that would be like 4 hours).

Awesome report Mani. As a person that doesn't enjoy ZvZ very much I appreciate the abreviation.

Zergman, truly disgusted, showed more emotion than most gamers do on TV.

That's because of HOW CLOSE it was. Stay literally killed Zergman's LAST muta with his LAST scourge, and they both had NO MONEY LEFT (they showed FP view right before the end). Although if that had happened, it still would've been Stay's 6 or so lings, vs a muta or two (after they kill stay's drones), so Stay would've won anyways I think, but still... it was so close.

Nice reports!
