I was told the matches would be starting around 12:00 PM so I headed to the COEX Mall's event hall and was flabergasted by the amount of little kiddies in line to enter the event. The line was like 300-400 people long and I was going to have to wait a long ass time to get in. So...abusing my size, prowess, and over-all Rekrulness I just walked past all the people in the line half the people I walked by were saying stuff in Korean such as "what the hell" and "who does he think he is." Anyways near the entrance was a VIP line where I managed to bypass and then acquire a press pass from an unwitting female Blizzard employee. Shortly there after I met Theo and Brett (Blizz employees), uhjoo, and all the gamers. Much like Uhjoo I was shocked by the amount of people in the event and the size and grandeur of Blizzard's setup. It was very nice and had ton's of hot korean girls in spacey miniskirtish and warcraftish outfits everywhere. May I add that these events would be nothing without these girls...God bless them. The opening ceremony was just starting. All the players waddled up onto stage in their homo Blizzard space outfits. They interviewed Fisheye who seemed rather unconfident saying Reach and Nal_rA are his longtime protoss idols and he stands absolutely no chance. Yeah! Thats the spirit! Go Foreign BW! The rest of the opening ceremony then commenced with one very famous korean hip hop girl trio and another very famous korean poptress. They all had plastic surgery like hell, lipsinced like hell, and danced like hell. They were good looking and confident though. The announcers asked them silly questions about gaming and they all gave dull responses about how they are busy and barely play games etc. One said she was rooting for Park Jung Suk (Reach) and Reach gave her a manly wink and smile.
Then I waited in the back for a while with Eri, Fisheye, uhjoo, Bejjang (who now is a SKT1 coach and came with PJ), and others. I extracted information that a certain chinese player is 'pretty good' but only is winning about 20% of his practice games vs his teammmates but is slowly improving. Not so long after the games started. First up was Eri vs Nada. Game one Eri had a very nice opening build which got him three gasses and fast defiler and defended him from MM all at the same time. As the game played out Chojja was watching with the KTF manager on the bigscreen at some points shaking his head like a happy puppydog as if Nada will rape him and sometimes shrugging and shaking his head no-no as if Nada is screwed. Needless to say Eri started off pretty nicely and had a good shot at beating Nada this game. But I think going queens was a waste of gas and if he had used that to get a few more lurkers he could have contained Nada forever and then owned him with ultras. But he had to be cute because he's Eri and he really had bad micro/macro after mid-game and Nada ran over him with vessels and Chojja was smiling wide. Little rat bastard. Game two Eri randomed Terran on Luna vs Nada and just played terribly, not that he stood a chance if he played well either. The rape-factor in this game had even Reach laughing but oh well...Nada won me 10$ off Manifesto-pay up bitch.
Fisheye against Nal_rA was next. I told Fisheye that on IntoTheDarkness rA will do the 1 proxy gate build that Reach raped me with a long time ago in MBC trials and Fisheye was adamant that rA would not do that against a foreigner that he underrates. Bejjang also agreed with me. Needless to say at this point, rA did the 1 proxy gate build and Fisheye did a standard one base build. rA harassed and managed to kill a lot of probes but Fisheye was ahead on the unit counts while rA teched to DTs and Fish got an observer just in time to kill the DT before it killed more than 9 probes (lol). It seemed fisheye was royally screwed but he pushed to Ra's base and killed all his units and many probes with goon/zealot but the last of his army was finished by probes. Game was pretty even and rA still had DT's streaming from that proxy gate that Fisheye never killed but Fisheye always had two goons and an obs protecting his main. Fish then got a reaver and was looking like he would win just from attacking straight out as he had the same amount of units (more goons less zealots) but he had a reaver to kill rA's zealots. But Fisheye decided to pressure rA's front and then sneak the reaver into his main. He did this and killed some probes with his reaver (10 or so). He then pulled back and expanded. He was very much up on unit count and got his nexus faster. This is fisheye's game. But then rA acted like he was going to attack the front even though he had way less units then fisheye and flew in a speed shuttle iwth two reavers into Fisheye's main and killed every single probe with two scarabs. Fisheye then ran his entire army into his main and rA followed and trapped him below the ramp. GG...over just like that. Game two on some other two player map rA tried to do the same proxy zealot shit but Fisheye countered with a proxy gate in rA's main and just owned him this game. Not even worth saying more. Game three was on Luna and was a straight up PvP. Fisheye got his expo before robo and rA got his Robo/ob before expo. But overall rA just outplayed him and took the series. Fisheye was pretty dissapointed but at the same time he seemed to not care. He wasn't angry that he lost but more that he made mistakes in his games.
Sen played very nervously against a cocky Reach who played as if he had no respect for foreigners. Despite owning Reach's proxy cannon attempt PvZ on Luna Sen had 8 zerglings and didn't attack Reach's one cannon because he was scared I guess. He could have won this game easily but decided to play safely and Reach just ran him over. I didn't see the other games because I was eating and prowling around looking at the showgirls and getting interviewed by some USA TV network dedicated to gaming. But Sen and PJ got owned pretty badly I heard. T_T For the foreigners!
Oh well after that we headed to dinner in some crappy mall restaurant. As we walked through the mall one girl who I guess was at the event screamed "FISHEYE!!!!!" but only I heard it I guess. I wanted to go out but Fisheye and Eri were way too tired so I went home and they went to their hotels. Tonight I will show them the manner.
Gotta head to COEX again...stay tuned I will have some pictures soon too!

Nice reports though
|
yellow vs pj game1 was nice, wasn't a total rapage or something and fishy really could have won 2-0
|
eri had a good shot at beating nada because he managed to push towards nada's exp with 6 lings and a lurk? ;p don't think nada ever felt any pressure that game

did any of the koreans react to fisheye almost winning the series?

What did you eat? How was Reach so cocky?

You ought to blame TL.net for that. We flooded with comments like, "INFEST NADA'S CC, QUEEN RUSH!!!"
|
nah, his macro is just too shitty ;D
not trying to flame eri here or anything.. we all know eri is cool and certainly isnt a bad player but come on ;D he plays very cute and stuff but he just isnt a top notch player. with or without queens, i dont think he would've taken a win off nada.
i remember some game where whole tl.net went apeshit about some rep where he was using queens, it was 'teh shit'. fun to watch, yes, but the gamequality was poor imo -,-

I like Rekrul's writing style. ;] Thx m8. ;]

Sounds like a nice visit. This here is a great article, Rekrul. Fisheye should have won, though.

no one had chance vs koreans except Pj
|
any of the foreigners had a good chance to win his series and if im not totally mistaken that is exactly what reks post is about. but with most of us damn newb foreigners fearing koreans like gods and without any confidence just like fish who thought he wont win a game no matter what he tries and didnt even practise because of that, there is no way in hell we can change that stuff... so please move you asses, its that simple
gj rek, nice read indeed

the lesson learned was that even if the pros fuck around and are at a disadvantage, they can still manage to win.

Rekrul writes such good prose. It could all be collected somewhere and read all at once. It's a unique thing I hope to read more of.
