The MLG Columbus event will take place March 23-25 (The Full StarCraft 2 Schedule has not yet been released.)
Please try to purchase your pass as soon as they go on sell and come to Columbus and show your support for MLG and the North American SC2 scene!
As always, please feel free to ask any questions regarding the event, and I'll try to answer them to the best of my ability. Please keep in mind that there are still details to be released, so if the information is not below, it's likely not available yet.
It is not mandatory to stay in these hotels. If you'd like to do a price comparison to find the cheapest hotel, I would suggest to use Google Search, using the address of the Greater Columbus Convention Center which is 400 N. High Street; Columbus, OH 43215 to find the hotels closest to the venue.
ARCH TRANSPORTATION (614-252-2277) runs 7am-midnight daily. Airport: $17.00 per person each way. Individual pickup times can be scheduled by calling them directly, reservations recommended.
MLG Antiga Shipyard - Cross Spawns Only MLG Dual Sight MLG Daybreak MLG Entombed Valley - All Spawns Allowed MLG Metalopolis - No Close by Ground Spawns MLG Shakuras Plateau - No Close by Ground Spawns MLG Tal’darim Altar - All Spawns Allowed
2012 Map Updates - All Rich Mineral Fields have been replaced with Normal Mineral Fields. - On Entombed Valley, a Neutral Supply Depot has been added to the bottom of each Main Base Ramp
Hype it up! Good to see prize money has increased. This should help justify the costs of travel for a lot of players. Brace yourselves, the Koreans are coming.
I love the increased prize pool. $15,000 for 2nd place is more than the whole prizepool for an entire MLG last year. It's still pretty top heavy though. The $20,000 between 1st and 4th place is an awful lot for 3 BoX series.

MLG is currently in the process of revamping our membership products. During this time, we have removed all membership passes from our online store. If you would like to purchase a membership in the meantime, Gold Membership cards can be purchased at your local GameStop (US only) and Toys R Us (US only). So if you have one near by, I'd suggest to go to the store to see if they have any MLG League Membership Cards.

Is it safe to assume that the early entry will still apply to Gold Membership? I plan on going to GameStop as soon as I am out of work today. I'd rather not buy one to find out there's a new Platinum Membership package that has the cool event perks. Thanks for the quick reply!
Just booked at the Red Roof and bought my spec pass. Crowne Plaza (where I stayed last year, across the street) was saying that one bed rooms were booked for the weekend already, here's to some ridiculous conventions being there alongside MLG. Last year was haunted house operators.

I'm unable to say how the membership products will look once they are revamped.
22 byes in the ro64 why not do random open tournaments or something to fill in those spots? kind of insane than 30% of the first round won't be played :<
So how much will the HD passes cost? Also will there be especial membership for the people who only want to watch the tournament and not the rest of the MLG stuff? My point is that I don't want to pay for 3 months(if thats the shorts time to buy for example) and only watch 4 days of MLG.
This will be my first MLG and I'm so pumped to go. I can't wait. I was wondering if anyone who was at Columbus last year had any advice for a smooth experience? Does the convention center charge for parking? Does it fill up pretty quickly? Any recommendations on how early we should show up? Any advice is much appreciated!

So I got an email today saying my silver membership is now void as a result of the changes to the membership and instead I've been given some gamebattles thing which gives me nothing that I wanted when I signed up for the silver membership(cough HD stream cough). I'll just copy and paste the email: Attention all MLG Silver Members,
As the start of the 2012 Season approaches, we are in the process of refining our premium product offering in order to bring you the best experience possible. As part of this reorganization, we have decided to remove Silver Membership from our product offering.
On Tuesday, February 7th, all MLG Silver Members will be transitioned into our newest product, GameBattles Premium Access. The product features are as follows: Premium Ladder Support Premium Avatar Skin Access to a Premium Online Tournament each Month Access to the Members-only Forum Customization Option - Save Match Settings First priority to Beta Tests Season Prizing for Premium Ladders Premium Trophies and Badges The 3 month recurring price of this new product is $12.99.
Your next scheduled renewal will be for GameBattles Premium Access and you will be charged $12.99.
If you do not wish to be billed for GameBattles Premium Access on your next billing cycle, you must cancel your membership before your next scheduled renewal. You may do so on your profile page after logging into your account: https://accounts.majorleaguegaming.com/account/membership
GameBattles Premium Access does not include any access to HD video. For those of you who are also interested in watching MLG Pro Circuit Championships in HD online, we recommend you check out the MLG Gold Membership Card, which is available at GameStop and Toys "R" Us stores nationwide. For $30, you'll get access to an entire year of Pro Circuit Championship livestreams in HD and an entire year of GameBattles Premium Access.
Thank you for your continued support of Major League Gaming. We are very excited to get GameBattles Premium Access in your hands next week! If you have any questions about GameBattles Premium Access, Silver Membership, or how this affects your account, please send us an e-mail at membership@mlgpro.com
For those of you who are less than excited by this change, as you renewed recently with the understanding that you would be able to watch our Columbus Championship Event in HD, please submit an e-mail through https://support.majorleaguegaming.com/customer/portal/emails/new with your MLG Username and we will happily refund your $9.99 as long as it was set to expire after our Columbus Championship Event (meaning your last renewal must have been on or after December 23rd).
Question for those who have attended past events. Which hotel did the sc2 players stay at? Do they stay at the closest hotel to the event as stated on MLG's recommended hotels? Or do they get their own seperate location?

Depends on the player, regardless there is ample time to meet/talk to all the players during the actual event. Not sure where they are staying should really make a difference to anyone...

Yes, there is a limit. I would suggest to purchase the passes right away. The longer you wait, the higher likelihood is that you won't get a player pass due to it selling out.
Please note the change in pass sales. Player Passes will be available for purchase Monday, February 20th at 7 PM ET for Gold Members, and Tuesday, February 21st at 7 PM ET for everybody else.

hmm this change should probably be more public, as ive been looking around on where to buy them when they were originally supposed to go live in an hour. As i dont quite remember how it worked last year.
As we have done last year, I am looking for a few people to act as a brand ambassador for the upcoming Winter Championship in Columbus. If you attend a college or university close to Columbus, and you'd be interested in devoting some time promoting the upcoming event on your campus, please PM me. Thanks!

Nobody's interested? I'm sure if you talk to some of the people that did it last year, they'd tell you they had a great time!
the Competitor passes are sold out is there any other way to go about getting them.. I remember the previous MLG's some of the spots were saved for previous competitors is this not the case anymore?
any info on when the streaming will commence on the 24th of march (saturday)? we are from austria and want to make a barcraft and need to know when it will start approximately. we want to announce it asap, so many people will know....
Definitely looking forward to this. What really makes these events special over the GSL, NASL or Dreamhack formats is the possibility of a complete darkhorse to come out of the open brackets and go deep in the tournament.
Hey guys, I really need some help I went to buy a competitor pass today, and it says that they are ALL sold out! I already have a hotel booked and everything I just didn't have a credit card for a few days so I was unable to purchase my competitor pass until today. Idk what to do?!?! I really want to compete but if they are sold out how do I do that?
Is there anyone that has a pass they aren't going to use, or bought an extra one or ANYTHING really? I just need a pass, I have been waiting the last two months for these to go on sale and now it looks like I'm not even going to be able to play my heart is breaking and all I can hope is that someone sees this and PM's me telling me they bought an extra or something. I need help!
Thanks to everyone in advance and I look forward to hearing from somebody, anybody with some good news!!
I like the pool distribution, a lot of players out there are pretty confidant of placing top 8, so it means in the end their stay would be paid for at the least. And you guys are by far the fastest to pay out to players.

Afaik, the competitor passes are linked to MLG IDs, so you would have to play with someone else's ID if they sold it to you. Also, I believe they want you to show a proof of ID (driver license) at the door, so that may complicate things...

That's not true. If a person can't go, and they'd like to sell it, they can email the commissioner to have it transferred over to the other username. Please PM me for further details.
Just wanted to say, that if anyone else ends up not being able to attend the event, and had bought a competitor pass, I'd be willing to buy it from you! I was waiting to see this thread pop up, but I must of missed it and never realized they went on sale till Sundance tweeted they were all gone. Thanks a lot!

Technically there is; however, spectator passes have never sold out. I would still suggest to purchase online though so you don't have to risk waiting in a longer line.
They usually start @5:30 and games begin @6PM. Since it's in Columbus, it's probably safe to assume sometime between 6 and 7PM EST.
Edit: Also, would like to know when groups will be announced. It was exciting to have the group announcement show for Winter Arena. I'd also like to see Nestea do well, so if you could give him time to prepare for his group that would be sweet.

This is not correct.
The welcome speech is usually at 5 PM local time (EST in this case) and the games begin at 5:30 PM local time (EST in this case.
Matches are started right on time, and if late by more than 15 minutes, you would forfeit your match.
So I would get there by 5 PM ET (no later) because you need to first check-in and receive your player wristband.
**The above times are based on previous year schedules, and thus subject to change for the 2012 Winter Championship**
As for the groups, they will be announced as soon as possible.
If I lived anywheres close to Colombus I would be there in a second! 35$ for a weekend pass is a steal and it will be a great time! Someday I would like to make the road trip
I think MLG should think about the mappool. Having Dual Sight in an major tournament is just bad. Metalopolis aint great either. MLG should be more flexible in those things
WR1 starts at 5:30 PM local time. You have until 5 PM local time to check-in and pick up your player wrist band.

We wanted the seasons to be consistent (this map pool is the same we used for the Winter Arena.) There will be changes for the spring season.
Really nice prize distribution. $1000 for 16th? Thank you very much! ^_^ Kinda wanted to see Cloud Kingdom though. Either way, this tourney will be amazing if everything go as planned!

Really...you allow close spawns on Entombed valley? That's a horrible decision. It's a terrible map for Zerg, I'm curious as to what the thinking was with allowing horizontal spawns.
Looks like they've expanded their finals to a bo9 extended series format! Going to be a marathon event!
1) If the players met before, the match will be bo9 on whatever the score was before.
2) If the players did not meet, an initial bo5 will be held. If the WB wins, the event is over. Else, the match will resume at whatever the score is to a bo9.
Horizontal spawns to eachother possible on Entombed Valley...? Seriously? That's ridiculous, a hundred times worse than keeping Dual Sight in the map pool. It's basically Xel'Naga Caverns all over again for Zerg on those spawns... :/
I urge MLG to consider a few map pool changes, the stuffy and outdated feel of the maps available does not become the awesome community progression that MLG continually brings on all other fronts.
That mappool really shocked me. They only use as many tournement maps as ladder currently does. Some would call the fixed spawns and no golds good but at this point it just becomes so dull. There is no courage, no creativity. It is a new year it should be time for new ideas. I would love if they were like "Alright mules are nerfed, we will try out golds again, and that is why we use mostly ladder maps." But not even this is the case as they simply removed all of those. This mappool is just stupid.
Does mlg plan on adding more maps to there pool at some point either one of the tlmc maps or Gsl metropolis. it seems they always lag behind in changing the maps i think they are the only one still using metal as a map and were also the last major tournment to axe xelnaga from its pool
As a Gold Member (purchased last november), will have I full access to watch the tournament or do I have to not watch this tournament also because it is "not the regular event, another winter £¨$£¨^ùm$ type of tournament which requires you to pay" ?

I'd suggest to make sure to purchase your pass online so all you have to do is give your name/ID and pick up your pass.
Tal'darim is also broken for ZvP (bc of muta obviously). MLG really needs to drop this map, and event using it automatically loses a lot of legitimacy.

I read somewhere I had to get my Gold membership before a certain date or I wouldn't be able to get Gold online. It doesn't make sense am I mistaken and it only refers to event passes? http://www.majorleaguegaming.com/competitions/30 at the bottom it says: "Buy Gold Membership online again for a limited time!" clicking it goes to: http://www.majorleaguegaming.com/membership and then that seems like the Gold it was last year. It even includes gamebattles premium and stuff. Weren't those gonna get stripped and seperated?
That's my confusion, here is my actual need. My gold expires end of july. If I take no action will I be able to watch the next MLG in HD? And if I would get/extend gold now (because the site seems to want to force me to)* it would just extend my time? So from the end of july it will add 12 more months? Or will it start a new 12 months, because then the offer of the previous 12 months wasn't legit If I don't extend it now I won't be able to extend it come july and I will only be able to get silver passes if I want to watch the MLG weekends in HD?
*really dislike putting it like that. the link says limited time but on the /membership page there is no mention that it's indeed limited. this actually makes me furious. seems like some guy who makes the site just typed it like that and it is implicating some incredibly serious things. pretty much all my confusion comes from this i think. because I would just not do anything and refresh in july ... now I'm getting freaked out because it's telling me to freak out :p
I'll come back and see what I'll do based on the response. Thanks for your time.

As long as you have the Gold Membership, you will be able to watch the Championship Events with no-ad HQ Streams. As for the limited part, that is referring to it being available for sale in the MLG Store only. The Gold Membership won't just be removed prior to the expiration. If that's not want your referring to, I apologize. Please PM me if you have further questions.
