Polt started off the game with a quick command centre, while Jinro opts for a factory eventually showing us he wanted to start out with some cloaked banshees. Polt manages to scan this in time and holds off on moving and utilizing his 2nd base right away. Despite his preparation and knowledge for what was coming Jinro’s banshee manages to net a few kills before being deflected.
Polt responds to this harass by applying some pressure of his own, moving out with a moderately sized marine force. However Jinro’s lone siege tank supported by some marines and a banshee easily held this off with no problems.
Jinro continued to produce more banshees after his initial harasser. Fortunately Polt spots one in the middle of the map and manages to take it out before suffering any of the feared double digit damages from it. Unfortunately for Polt this wasn’t the only new banshee on the map, and he’s left to deal with a seemingly endless stream of harass from above.
Not over reacting to this banshee play, Polt instead keeps his marine force very active in the middle of the map. This almost purely bio force dances outside Jinro’s natural trying to flex its pseudo dominance over him. Because of his position Jinro tries to work around Polt’s position by sending a drop up the side, but polt is one step ahead here and catches the drop almost before it leaves the hangar.
In order to further take advantage of his map presence and the ever increasing need for money as the game goes on, Polt takes his gold base. Unfortunately for him this seemed to be just the excuse Jinro was looking for to unleash his ball of siege-like death. Jinro immediately pushes out from his position, leap frogging his way to an entrenchment on Polt’s immobile base.
As a last ditch effort to try and safe this command centre that he has invested more than its worth in repairs on, Polt tries unsuccessfully to flank Jinro’s massively tank heavy army. While the arc is good the lack of siege is not, and Jinro has sufficient marines to tank long enough for the tanks to deal their dirty damage. Showing not only does Jinro have his timings down, but also that bio play just doesn’t seem to be the answer on this map so far.
After crushing Polt’s main force and gaining a 100 supply lead over the guy that called him out, Jinro decides it’s time to end the game and without any delay pushes into the natural of Polt forcing him to type out.
Similar to Jinro’s first game he goes for a quick factory opening while his opponent again decides for a fast command centre, except this time placing it directly at his natural. Jinro’s factory shows us a second time that he favours the cloaked banshees. This initial banshee nets 6 kills and ends up disrupting Rainbow’s mining as well.
Jinro slips on his micro and loses the initial banshee, but a second is quickly on the way. This follow up is no slouch either, getting 10 kills (many people believe a banshee is created with this kill count). Following that up with yet ANOTHER banshee, getting a few kills of its own; the damage for rainbow is really adding up now. Though finally manages to halt the harassment with a Viking and some turret coverage. These banshees have been worth their weight in nerd sweat. Realizing the amount of damage these few units have caused, Jinro decides to push right through the rocks into Rainbow’s base.
Fortunately Rainbow reacted fast enough, only allowing the tanks up to the bottom of the ramp. Jinro realizes this push now has a limited capacity for damage and pulls his army out before Rainbow can use his shorter reinforcement distance to break out and destroy Jinro’s army in a cost efficient fashion. Rainbow doesn’t take this aggression laying down, he counter pressures with a marine assault on Jinro’s natural
But the banshee harass is still going on, at this point these units must surely be hurting Rainbows morale with their persistence. Rainbow shows us some persistence of his own in the form of his amazing multi-tasking, taking another base while handling his army and deflecting harassment. While doing all of these things he also tries to drop Jinro’s main, but unfortunately his opponents army was there to intercept and destroy the medivac.
Jinro attempts to push towards Rainbow’s main again through the back pathway with a large tank force but this proves to be a move that gains him no ground. Rainbow is still on top of things and is quick to meet him at the ramp again. All the while Rainbow is trying to gain an economic advantage from his extra expansion, however Jinro will not have this. He intercepts a maynard to this new base, stinting Rainbow’s economy in attempts to pull his own to par.
In attempts to put himself not only to par but strongly ahead Jinro engages in the classic terran tactic of splitting the map with a massive tank line. This leads to the next logical step for either player to get anything done: drops. Lots and lots of drops.
Did I mention alot of drops?
These drops do an excellent job of denying each player their fourth base, but Jinro seems to come out ahead in this exchange causing more damage. Jinro attempts to push into Rainbows main for the third time. Rainbow seems to make a fatal misclick directing his tanks in the wrong direction while leaving only marines to deal with Jinro’s assault force
Rainbow sends a massively tank heavy drop to Jinro’s 11 o’clock base, but Jinro’s marines seem to be feeling the after effects of their stim packs and walk within inches of the drop ships seemingly oblivious to their existence. Even though this allows rainbow to get a favourable position within Jinro’s expansions (yes right between them), Jinro manages to force him to unsiege and cleans out the units.
Jinro continues to pound away on Rainbow’s expansions with constant harass, while maintaining an extremely strong map presence. Taking the 6 o’clock gold base and further pushing his tank force into rainbows main; Jinro’s dominance seems unchallenged at this point.
Even at this point in the game Jinro’s banshees continue to show their ferocity, picking off tank after tank in rainbows main as he attempts to produce and defend. Rainbow is being suffocated, entirely losing a main he is unable to defend. With insurmountable losses, coupled with the crushing economy and army of Jinro, Rainbow is splashed out of sight and forced to give in.
Well I can't say this was necessarily a surprise to anyone, but I think it's safe to say most people at TL are pretty happy with these results. Jinro didn't surprise me with his results, and although I am normally a fan of surprises that was not the case here. Jinro showed amazing dominance in all of his games, cooly reacting to his oponent's every move. He dismantled them piece by piece and pushed his way into the ro16 undefeated. TL fighting!
TLAF-Liquid`Jinro Post Game Interview By Hot_Bid
Congrats. You made that look easy.
Not so easy mentally. I was really worried going in, I haven't been doing too great lately in practice. Thankfully, I was able to decide on some solid build orders at literally the last second, after practicing until very very late last night.
Why were you worried going in? Your TvT has looked solid lately. How would you rate your matchups now?
TvZ, TvT, TvP. I lost so many TvTs in the last ranking sessions. I only had a positive winrate in TvZ really. I think I was trying to overcompensate for the new maps in TvT.
Still, you advanced 2-0. In Game 1, PoltPrime.WE tried to play bio-only.
Surprisingly, I would have expected banshee play -- though I had been told hes a bio-fan nowadays. I don't think the map suits that at all really.
Polt is MarineKing's teammate -- are you getting better against that style now? You were very cautious with your tanks.
It's not very popular anymore - I thought big maps would make it stronger but I actually think it's the opposite now. When you open bio expo on the big maps, proxy banshee or blue flame followed by banshee can really screw you up a lot more because the retaliation distance is just so far that they can expo behind it safely. Not really applicable to Crossfire, but whatever.
In Game 2 you played another player who made two semifinals, Rainbow. You defeated him convincingly in a long TvT on Shakuras. What are your thoughts on this game?
Surprised he played the way he did, I played him on ladder on my smurf last night and he went blue flame hellion (on shakuras actually!), and he did that vs TOP too on ladder so... I thought it was pretty likely, though I knew it might be a fake. Lost a super close 30 minute game that time. I'm mostly happy with how I played, apart from a couple of control errors -- losing a banshee, losing two dropships because they hadn't been ordered to unload etc.
Next round you play a Bo3 with HongUnPrime.WE.
Really happy it's HongUn and not NaDa. I really thought that group would have NaDa and TOP coming out of it, so I was hoping I'd play NaDa and not TOP because it's easier to practice against someone who doesn't live in the house (NaDa doesn't). But then things went like they did, and well, I'm sure HongUn wasn't excited about the prospect of team-killing either. If he beat NaDa he would have to play Check. He lost in style at least ^^
Has advancing so easily become regular for you now?
As I said, I was really worried this time. It's definitely not a regular thing and I don't want to feel that way about it ever, but I need to stay sharp. As much as I hate the feeling before games like this, it's important that its there.
This is our eighth Foreigner Special interview with you. Since we can only ask the same questions so many times without it becoming repetitive, we've decided to include some special questions this time. Are you ready?
Go go.
In terms of women, what are your turn-ons and turn-offs? Please answer seriously, there could be a potential Mrs. Jinro reading this.
lol, Cute face. Michelle Rodriguez.
You are turned off by Michelle Rodriguez?
SERIOUSLY annoying in every single role she's ever played.
You didn't like her in Avatar? She helped Jake Sully escape and free the blue cat people...
I didn't see Avatar.
What about The Fast and the Furious? She was the love of Vin Diesel's life.
Well, my problem isn't really with her, its with how 90% of female action hero roles, has the lead be a totally unlikable. That's why Alien(s) series is so good, Sigourney Weaver isn't a female action hero anymore than Bruce Willis is a male action hero - she's just an action hero.
Jinro's type?
What is your favorite movie and favorite scene from that movie?
Well, I have many - I think my favorite movie would probably be Snatch, but there's a couple of movies where I could more readily think of really nice scenes. Revolver has some pretty amazing scenes in it. I'm not really sure how to describe them though, but the one where Ray Liotta and his Asian counterpart are yelling out at their respective underlings is pretty solid, as well as the monologue on the beauty of death later on in that movie =)
Give us a few more.
The opening of Snake Eyes is awesome. The first five minutes of Dead or Alive (the Takashi Miike movie), is the best 5 minutes in cinematic history. It's too bad the movie nosedives after that. The first five minutes of the movie are literally going at 110 mph and the remaining 2 hours are a leisurely walk, it's a bit unintuitive. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance has some insanely emotional and powerful scenes in it too.
Favorite TV shows?
The Wire.
Nice. Favorite character?
Hmm, Omar probably. Stringer is awesome too though. Seriously there's not that many not awesome characters in The Wire. Everyone is interesting.
What job would you like to do if you weren't a progamer?
Day trading seems fun.
Why day trader? That's a stressful job that most people would not like.
Because I loved having dual monitor setup while pokering and daytrading would let me do that too haha. It just seems kinda like playing poker to me. I don't really have any normal jobs that appeal to me. When I was a kid I always said I wanted to be a like, sea-rescuer like from helicopters but that was just because I watched a documentary about it.
What profession would you absolutely hate doing?
Anything 9-5. Literally. I guess if the 9-5 was doing something I really liked, like esports related or something, I could stomach it. 9-5 just seems like slow death to me in the long run, I sometimes feel it would be nice structure wise, but I know after a while I'd hate it.
How dare you not capitalize it.
My bad, ESPORTS.
Are you a dog or a cat person?
Dog, my family have had a total of 4 (2 still alive), puppies twice.
You used to practice MMA right? Is there anyone in the oGs-Liquid house whose ass you could not kick? Be honest.
Dunno, Jos is pretty strong! TheWind has done military service so he can probably look after himself too. I wasn't that great anyway
You're at a convenience store. The clerk is a jerk to someone right in front of you, and when it's your turn to pay, the clerk gives you an extra $5. Do you give it back?
I hand it back. Maybe he won't be a jerk to the next guy.
Always give it back?
Always, if I was mad at him I'd take it out in some other way.
Which superpower would you pick: flight, speed, or invisibility?
I think flight... as much fun as invisibility would be, I imagine less people would want me dead if I pick flight
Would you rather be Batman or Superman?
Mm, Batman's costumes is marginally more tasteful I guess.
You judge by costumes!?
I mean, I can already fly. So I'm basically a flying Batman already.
If a zombie apocalypse happened what part of you would be sort of excited? 5%? 10%?
The 95% of my mind that compulsively consumes survival horror movies and games.
Would you try to survive by yourself or form a group?
Group, I'm scared =)
You would be a pretty big asset to any zombie survival group, you can fly and you drive a batmobile.
This is true. In fact depending on type of zombie I could probably live in trees with my awesome flight power.
You have some things to clear up about the Korean interview translations.
They asked me if I wanted to be more like Elky or GiYom, I said like Elky cuz of the sunglasses and his successful post-BW career. They thought I said like Elky except for the sunglasses. But man, the sunglasses are everything. My life goal is to have a wardrobe of only sunglasses. Sunglasses and watches. There'll be like, one wardrobe for the unessential things, like clothes. Then another with just watches laid out at the bottom and sunglasses all along the wall.
It seems this interview is getting very long. Do you have any last words or shout outs?
Just the usual I guess; thanks to everyone in oGs for help with practice, thanks to Sculp (Bak Yong Hwan) for the same! Thanks to everyone for watching~~
GSL Code S / Code A Foreigner Week!
Foreigner week continues, as mOOnGLade and LiquidRet will all be competing in the next few play days. Stay tuned for more Foreigner Specials!
Just when I thought I couldn't like Jinro even more, he names The Wire as his favorite show and Omar and Stringer as his favorite characters. I know American media and American culture disseminate everywhere, but a show about urban decay and crime being known even in Sweden is quite interesting.
Not enough cussing from Jinro in this interview, I'm ashamed!
But seriously, grats to him for outclassing his opponents even though he didn't feel strong going into it. Jinro is so solid at the moment it gives me that excited happy feeling in my stomach. Good luck winning GSL Jinro.
Good interview that actually lets the fans in on what sorta things Jinro likes. It's great that he likes The Wire and some of the same movies as me...totally not gonna stalk him so we can be friends...
He knows who Takashi Miike is? lol that's fucking awesome, must have a good sense of humor then. Dead or Alive is a favorite movie of mine (well in weird ways). No mention of the ending?
More interviews like this. When a player is in the limelight enough, all interviews tend to blend together. Nice to hear some new stuff about Jinro. Also, I'm not surprised snatch is his favorite movie with that potty mouth of his :3
Great interview questions towards the end. Really enjoy getting to know more about these guys as they fight their way through GSL. It's a shame Polt had to say what he did then fell on his face.
Great job, one little mistake i found, if you want to fix it was during the interview with Jinro, "This is our eight Foreigner Special interview with you. Since we can only ask the same questions so many times without it becoming repetitive, we..." I am pretty sure that is supposed to say our eighth not eight. But great job overall. I heart you jinro!!
LOL This interview is hilarious, especially the way they (Artosis?) says that they can't say the same questions over and over or else it would be repetitive xD
You didn't like her in Avatar? She helped Jake Sully escape and free the blue cat people...
I didn't see Avatar.
oddly, i have even more respect for jinro now. Also, Michelle Rodriguez's role is avatar was meh,

If jinro ever landed a movie deal, we'd see a scene of him walking around wearing only the coolest sunglasses and awesomest watch. It would be kind of like this:
A Guy Ritchie fan! I'm reaaally surprised Jinro didn't mention Rocknrolla among his favourites, as Rocknrolla absolutely owns Revolver. Someone please refer this movie to him! TeamLiquid!
P.S. Michael Rodriguez's primary occupation is a stuntwoman, that's why she often sucks at acting.
I usually don't post in interview threads, but i really liked this one, I hope more foreigner specials have interesting questions like these, makes following my favorite players that much more exciting. !
I just love this guy. It's getting like I was with Grubby in War3 where I want to hear his thoughts on EVERYTHING because they are so interesting and insightful.

For everybody (who grew up IN the internet) with some creativity it will always be possible to find a "not so normal" job, believe me =) and hey, you need some dreams =)

Gonna check it out =)! Lock stock is pretty high up among my favorites too, but its not as visually impressive as revolver.
I actually dont mind her acting that much, she just symbolizes to me this whole obsession with tough-girl roles always having the tough girl be a douchebag to everyone. Its not like Bruce Willis walks around being a misogynist in his tough-guy roles so I dont get why its a requirement

Jinro if you want to be a derivatives trader I could help you find a job... would hire you in a heartbeat if I could. Any pro starcraft player would do great IMO.

Except Foxer. Hate that guy.
Lol lolololololol
Man, homegrown FA has become a worldwide legendary action hero. I'm so proud, every time I read one of these.
So do you guys think it would be awkward to bring a girl back to the oGs house if Jinro had a girl hang out. Seems like a lot of testosterone for a girl to handle.

Each of the SECRET girls hyped up one of the four players in the group. It seemed super genuine, lucky they all happened to like a different one otherwise that would have been awkward for one of the players. Funny how that stuff ends up working out.
Great interview. I must say I disagree with his dislike toward Michelle Rodriguez though... she is a gorgeous women and when you combine that with her action-packed, ass-kicking attitude it's a major turn-on. Anyways, good luck Jinro! Hope to see you in the finals this time around. :-)

awesome interview. love it when they aren't just standard on-topic questions

It's a difficult subject really. I mean, take Die Hard 4. His character is a crazed, bloodthirsty dick in that movie, but the typical fan would probably just sum it up as 'badass'. However if a woman did the exact same role the typical fan would sum it up as her 'being a bitch'.
Alien was a great movie though, no argument there...
And he is dead right about the female characters in action movies. It's hard to come up with a good one other than Sigourney Weaver in Alien. It's like Nausicaa compared to disney princesses.

Corrected.
This guy is so awesome. When he took out Poltprime he converted the last non-believer (Polt himself). Jinro for code S champion!! TL should arrange for Jinro bobble heads or something.
Amazing interview, amazing gif, and he's dead-on about Michelle Rodriguez and tough girl roles. She just stalks around looking like she's ready to chop any guy's dick off with a butcher knife.

Pretty sure Die Hard 4 is universally hated so it is a bad example. I mean it was PG13, come on!
Jinro is such a baller, that was one of my favorite days of the GSL, seeing Jinro and Nada in such top form. ( and that only 2 days after July's sweet play)
Jinro is such a great player that his play seems like art work, this is who the smithsonian needs in their gallery!

Awesome interview and absolutely great answers from Jinro. I would love to see some more interview w/o generic questions like this. Jinro - FrozenArbiter for the champion :D
im pretty sure everyone who's watched the wire is an omar fan, but he's right, every character in that show is pretty amazing, omar is just the most likable if you really think about it.
I feel exactly the same about women's roles in movies and television. I really hate it when writers think the only way to make a strong female character is to make her a total unlikable bitch. Well said, and I I also agree that the Alien movies provide a great example of a female action hero done right. Also in love with your taste and other opinions! Guy Ritchie, dogs, and Zombie Apocalypses are all aces in my book
Going to check out the titles I was unfamiliar with, I suspect I'll enjoy them. I want Jinro to take the GSL more than ever now, what a baller.
Such a great sense of humor and an incredible player to boot! I must say, since his MLG victory I have grown to like Jinro more and more, he just seems like a really legit dude.

Yea I even had a question picked on the Gom Forum asking him how hed gone from "yea cool player not gona win anything" before MLG to "omg his play gives me nerdgasms".. and he just keeps getting better and better.
I think his ability to actually adapt to the Korean culture better than anyone else at that level of gaming is prob a huge reason hes done as well tbh, I dont think he gets enough credit for that from the community as much as the people who know him well and I dont just mean the ability to handle the practice.
Cant believe i missed his games by calculating the start time wrong in my timezone I have a huge mancrush on Jinro, pity i dont exactly fall into the "cute face" catagory. Good luck in Ro16!!!!!!!!!!!!
mmMmmm Jinro!.... I don't know if it is just because I think he is super nice and an awesome Macro Terran, but that might just be the most enjoyable name to say in the whole world.
