It might not be to your liking but saying they are bad is just ignorant.

Nerding out here for a minute, but I'm just really really happy to see MLG SC2 become a reality. IMHO, exceptionally well put together and executed for a first SC2 event. Can't wait to see what this ends up being when they get the kinks worked out :-)

HD and Husky are popular to casuals because they are just saying what is going on.
Day[9] is popular because he talks about WHY the players are doing what they're doing, gives insight into what the player might be thinking at the moment, and generally gives much better information. We don't need to hear HD say "Oh gas, I guess that means Reapers!" every single time a Terran makes his refinery.
HD and Husky are the equivalent of a football announcer saying "OH, HE PASSED THE BALL! HE'S RUNNING NOW! HE MIGHT GO FOR THE TOUCHDOWN!"

The main reason why they can do those more insightful commentaries in Korea is because virtually everybody already understands the basic concepts and tactics behind the game. That is not yet the case in other countries so you have to start with educating the masses. After that you can switch to the deeper tactics and thinking patterns behind the actions.
It's like showing football on tv in a country that had no previous access to it except for a few boys playing it on the street. You will have to explain what offside is and why it's there in the first commentaries and make sure your audience understands what the rules are. Once you've done that you can start talking about 4-3-3 systems versus 3-5-2 etc.

socke vs drewbie is sooooo intense

And now I've listened to HD call Carriers Collosi, Banshees vikings, and called Stims drugs. All within two minutes.

Naturally most of what you are saying is correct but you must understand that the MLG is trying to reach a broader public as the people who already followed the SC1 commentaries.

How's Day9's YouTube channel doing?
HD and Husky are the perfect mix of color and technical commentary, you see it in everything from ESPN's coverage of the WSOP to fucking Kirk Herbstreit and that old guy covering all of the big college football games.
Day9 is great for the informed player, but for the average retarded masses HD and Husky are absolutely ideal.
Of course sometimes every commentator says shit just for the sake of talking, that's the entire point of a commentator, but Day9's commentary's are full of unnecessary somewhat masturbatory pauses in the action, at the same spots over and over again - if you're just viewing for entertainment's sake.
Day9's probably a better teacher, but he's not a better commentator. Quit bitching about the coverage and enjoy the fact that eSports are becoming a reality.
