He was kind of just there to fill out the roster, because they needed another bird themed Pokemon other than Pidgeot (and Pidgeot was actually given a starring role in the anime at least). With some decent (but not great) speed and attack stats, you could talk yourself into how to make Fearow work, but in reality he’s just trapped in mediocrity. Oh no you didn't. Fearow is actually MUCH better than Pidgeot. Pidgeot has actually always been a POS Pokemon, forever doomed to the Never-Used tier (of which it is only Stage 3 Evolution Pokemon that isn't Bug/Flying). Not only does Fearow have higher Attack and Speed Stats AND Evolve at a lower level than Pidgeot, but it also has a superior movepool with Drill Peck. Pidgeot had no good Flying Attack until all the way in Generation IV where it got Brave Bird and it's still terrible. Of the Flying/Normals in Gen I, Dodrio is easily the best with a higher attack than Fearow and getting Tri-Attack. But at the very least you had a reason to get Fearow due to being able to get it much earlier in the game. Since you get pretty much get Pidgey and Spearow at the same time, there's absolutely no reason to even bother with Pidgeot. On July 21 2010 12:18 KwarK wrote: ![]() Stork is DRAGONITE! Dragonite is everyone’s favorite cuddly wrecking ball. Even though he’s usually a peaceful, 210 kg of huggable bulk, no one takes this dragon lightly. Give him some motivation, and he’ll beat the stuffing out of you in no time (for a dragon, Dragonite really seems to enjoy thwacking people rather than just breathing fire at them). Despite being an all around powerhouse, he has fallen out of favor lately due to his tremendous weakness to ice. Even so, Dragonite’s awesome strength means he has to be respected in any battle. That's not the reason it fell out of favor. It fell out of favor due to the fact that Salamence, who is also Dragon/Flying, was just an overall better Pokemon. Not to mention competition from other Dragon types like Latias and Garchomp. Anyone can see an Ice Attack coming from a mile away and though it does a good job of keeping Dragons in check, they can always just switch out. On July 21 2010 12:18 KwarK wrote: ![]() Jaedong is RAYQUAZA! Yeah, I know you generation Y folks don’t want to learn anything new outside the original 151 Pokemon. But look, Rayquaza is practically a goddamn mutalisk that goes around destroying everyone. It even learns moves called “Scary Face,” “Outrage,” and “Extreme Speed.” Also, it’s a top two pokemon in its generation. I think this one picks itself No argument there. Though I think Effort might be a better pick for Rayquaza due to his victory over Flash. I consider Flash to be Kyogre, and I think Effort's Victory over flash is comparable with the fact that Rayquaza's Air Lock ability cancels out Kyogre's Drizzle ability. I also think the main reasons people use Rayquaza should deserve Mention. Stuff like Dragon Dance (+1 Attack +1 Speed) is comparable Jaedong's ability to attack Powerfully and Quickly. And Draco Meteor is comparable to throwing a HUGE force at once.

Consider me TL's resident Pokemon expert with several years of competitive play under my belt. I left out the disclaimer this week that I don't take competitive gaming into account THAT much "Progamer pokedex is written with some knowledge of the competitive Pokemon scene, but not based solely upon it. There's too much esoteric meta-game knowledge to be explained to the casual reader. Instead, the combined portrayal of pokemon in various media are the basis for the analogies."
