Interview: Winner of (Z)(tw)DuskBin.Sen v (T)(de)mouz.GhosTa

+ Show Spoiler +
PokerStrategy.com TSL:
Congrats on qualifying for the PokerStrategy.com TSL! How does it feel?

DuskBin.Sen
Thank you! My ZvT has been in a slump because I lost a lot of ZvT during the ladder stage. I feel very relaxed now because I didn't have much confidence since I got to know that my opponent is a terran player. I'm feeling really great now i've made it through

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
Did you prepare a lot for this match? Were there any players in particular you practiced with?

DuskBin.Sen
I'm really suprised with being able to win in such fashion because I almost had no time to practice at all. I've been really occupied with my final exams for the past 2 weeks. Frankly speaking, our 1st game of the series on Tornado was also my first game on that map. = = I only checked the preview of the map before we started playing it. The only thing I've done to prepare this series is watching the 4 games between (Z)(de)mouz.Kolll and (T)(se)eX-v1o)MorroW

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
Since you said you watched the Kolll vs Morrow reps, what did you think? How do you feel Kolll's zerg compares to your own?

DuskBin.Sen:
I think we're quite similar in terms of playing styles but his micro and reactions are very very fast. It's really amazing and I don't think I can compete with him in this.

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
In the next round you will face off against (P)(pl)Draco. Do you feel more confident about a ZvP matchup than a ZvT matchup, and how do you feel about facing Draco in general?

DuskBin.Sen:
Regarding my next series against Draco, he is an awesome player but it's ZvP we're talking about. I feel much more confident playing ZvP than I do with ZvT.

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
You managed to win this series with almost no practice - will you practice more to prepare for Draco?

DuskBin.Sen:
I will definitely practice for it since I'm done with my exams. I will have more free time now for me to practice in the TSL maps that I'm not familiar with. I will make sure awkward situation like me checking the map preview only before the series does not happen for the 2nd time

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
Do you have any comments on the games you just played? Were there any moments where you were feeling particularly nervous about the outcome of the series?

DuskBin.Sen:
After we finished our first two games I thought I've got to understand his opening and play style much better so I was able to win it convincingly for the last two games.
I was particularly nervous during game 2 when he nuked my expos. It's a bad feeling being nuked, for a zerg player.

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
Do you have any plans to celebrate after qualifying for the PokerStrategy.com TSL?

DuskBin.Sen:
I'm going to celebrate by buying drinks!

PokerStrategy.com TSL
Thanks for the interview and good luck in the TSL! Any last minute shoutouts or messages?

DuskBin.Sen:
SEN IS BACK
That is all.

Interview: Winner of (Z)(ro)NrT.FlaF vs (Z)(nl)Ret

+ Show Spoiler +
PokerStrategy.com TSL:
Congratulations ret, you just made the Ro16 of the TSL by winning against FlaF 3-2. How do you feel?

ret:
Very relieved. This match was a lose-lose situation for me. Everyone expected me to win, and if I lost I would have severely disappointed myself and others.
I practiced hard, but because of how the games went that only really paid off in game 1. Playing ZvZ in tournaments is very tricky, and I am just glad it's done with and I move on to the next stage.

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
Could you briefly explain us how every game went and your thoughts during the games?

ret:
Game 1.. he went 12 hatch. I 12 pooled. That means I'm at a severe disadvantadge. Luckily he overlinged, and I barely kept enough eco alive that I was able to pull through with muta micro.
Game 2.. I 12 hatched, I believe he did the same, he caught my lings off guard in the middle early, after that the game became very close and luckily he also made too many lings in this game, and after that I could just pull through with mutas.
Game 3...I 9 pooled, he went 12 hidden hatch. I let the replays I saw of him cloud my judgement, I should have known what was going the moment my OL saw his main...but I didn't make the click so it raped me.
Game 4.. 12 pool vs 9 pool..he hid his lings, I stupidly moved out with my first lings because he 12 hatched twice already that I thought he might have done it again. Very rookie mistake..paid the price for it.
Game 5.. 9 pool vs 12 hatch...done deal.

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
A lot of people are still skeptical of your ZvZ skills, despite you saying in interviews that it's almost up to par to your other matchups now. How hard is it mentally to allow a 2 game comeback in a matchup where your confidence hasn't fully settled yet?

ret:
I was really unhappy, especially because I lost so stupidly to things I really shouldn't lose to, also because I want to prove that my ZvZ is actually on a good skill level. So yeah what can I say, I was very displeased with myself after game 4.

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
Have you looked at the Ro16 drawing yet? What are your thoughts on them? Are you pleased with your place in the brackets?

ret:
I have to play (Z)(pe)[Pan]CaStrO. I am extremely unhappy with this opponent because he lags really bad everytime. If it was a zerg that didn't lag I wouldn't feel bad about it, but this will undoubtfully be a stressfull match because Castro has such bad internet. But I am glad I am not on the same side as (T)(us)IdrA[Media] in the bracket.

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
Alright, thanks for the interview. Any last words to add for your fans or practice partners?

ret:
Thanks to everybody who's been supporting me in the TSL. I will try my best to keep working on my ZvZ and show good results in the Ro16 bracket. And many thanks to my many practice partners, (Z)(de)Kolll, (Z)(ca)XiaOzI, (Z)(cl)KiLLeR, (Z)(cn)Toodming, and many others I have played some games with over the past couple of days.

Interview: Winner of (Z)(de)ToT)Mondragon( v (T)(ro)Shaman

+ Show Spoiler +
PokerStrategy.com TSL:
Congratulations Mondragon on making the TSL Ro16. How do you feel after beating Shaman 3-1?

ToT)Mondragon(:
I feel kind of okay. As far as I know I'm already in the money for $250 (ed: he is) and thus it's definitely a good feeling to have earned some additional money.

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
You were considered a heavy favourite going in to this match. Tell us what you were thinking going in to this match and after the first game.

ToT)Mondragon(:
I've watched the replays of Shaman vs (Z)(us)EG.iNcontroL of course and I've watched some more replays of Shaman to get to know his unorthodox strategies. I saw surviving the first few minutes of each game as my main goal and did not see big problems afterwards, so it was toughest to make sure not to die early which failed epical the first game and I was kind of 'frustrated' because I so knew what was going to come. I just thought I would have a few more seconds time and wanted to exploit every second but the timing was a bit off - probably because of the possibly shortest way between the positions on this map.

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
The Andromeda game was weird to say the least. How did you react when his bunker finished despite you opening pool first? Did you feel you were ahead there?

ToT)Mondragon(:
It was a strange situation because I went something like 11 pool and knew I couldn't go for a straight natural expansion and had to take the mineral only. I didn't think I would get the bunker down so early and expected a 2 hatch lurker ling strategy followed by my third hatch at natural. Afterwards I was lucky that I could get through his wall with my speedlings in time to finish the game before it would have gotten tough .

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
You won the 3rd game with relative ease. The 4th game however seemed a lot tougher. Can you walk us through your side of that game?

ToT)Mondragon(:
I don't think it was that tough, he just made to survive pretty long in my opinion. Anyway, I opened with 3 hatch Mutas and I somehow expected a 2 rax quick mms rush, though he went for a 2 rax fast expansion as before and I made way too many sunkens for his strategy and was lacking a bit of eco in early / mid game. Then I decided to go for a very quick hive with only a few lurkers because I felt a bit behind in this period but as I was able to harass relatively much and stall long enough I was sure I would win afterwards and it was just a matter of time.

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
You'll be playing (T)(ru)RoX.KIS.BRAT_OK in the Ro16. Give us a prediction on how that match will go.

ToT)Mondragon(:
Well, you know, ZvT is my favorite matchup Brat is definitely better than Shaman and it won't be as easy as it was today. I don't really expect to have much of a chance there, though I am 'lucky' because I've practiced ZvT quite a bit lately and it obviously helps me vs Brat too. There could have been worse opponents for Ro16.

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
Alright, thanks for the interview. Any shoutouts to your fans/practice partners?

ToT)Mondragon(:
Thanks to everyone for supporting me and thanks to Hayder (e.n.: (Z)(se)HayprO) and Daze who practiced a lot of ZvT with me .
I promised Queens + Infesteds to Eri and I kept it - Tribute to him!

Interview: Winner of (T)(de)mTw.HoRRoR v (P)(us)Liquid`NonY

+ Show Spoiler +
PokerStrategy.com TSL:
Congratulations on making the round of 16! I expect most people watched your match vs (T)(us)IdrA[Media] last week, so before we get into today's match tell us a little bit about how the match vs IdrA went from your perspective

Liquid`Nony:
It was all a bit shaky for me just because I didn't have much time to prepare for the match. My mechanics weren't quite up to the necessary level and my builds didn't have enough practice games behind them. But from here on out, I'll be back to playing some very solid games as I have a wonderful practice routine going now (GTL)

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
I see. How did you prepare for your match vs Horror? Did you read his interview where he lined out how he had to become more standard? Any thoughts on that?

Liquid`Nony:
I saw the interview. I thought he would do a mixture of greedy builds, to capitalize on my conservative style, with some tricky builds mixed in. It seems that's exactly what happened, with the greedier, less safe builds on Tornado and Desti, and the special build for Protoss-favored Andromeda. I went into the match with a bunch of builds in mind, but mostly playing freestyle. The important thing was for me to feel fresh and ready to go when the match started, so I shaved right before the match and the very last thing I did was put on a shirt straight from the laundromat.

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
Yeah, you really seemed confident in your games Your next opponent will be (Z)(hu)mouz.Sziky or (T)(pl)iG.Tarson, any preference? What do you know/think about those players?

Liquid`Nony:
I don't know much about those players right now. I think I'd prefer Sziky just because he's Zerg. I love PvZ, it's my best matchup, but it doesn't look like I'll have a chance to play many Zergs in this tournament. Also it's likely that I'd run into IdrA in the Ro8 so I'd prefer him to not have fresh PvT games of me to study.

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
Ah, yes - I'm someone like you, who is known to emphasize preparation a lot must have studied the bracket very well. Did you see any (potential) matches you are looking forward to in particular simply as an observer? Since I know you like to watch the broadcasts.

Liquid`Nony:
Oh pretty much every single one haha. (P)(ua)White-Ra vs (T)(ua)Strelok (if they both win), (P)(ca)IefNaij vs (T)(mx)GosI[Terran] stand out to me for the Ro16.

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
That's nice to hear! Avid forum readers will probably have read that you got married recently, congratulations on that again! How well does your wife know BW? Does she watch you playing when you play important matches like TSL?

Liquid`Nony:
Thank you! She doesn't know what's going on very well. Hell it's probably hard for anyone but a serious BWplayer to be able to follow the action when watching my screen. She has some favorite units like the Dragoon and Reaver (it's so cute!). And she did watch me vs IdrA. But now I've gone back to school so we're living apart She'll definitely watch the broadcast of my Ro16 games.

PokerStrategy.com TSL:
Reavers are indeed cute (I remember the Reaver plush, omg!) Well, I think that's about it for the moment, anything you'd like to tell TL, your fans and/or your opponents?

Liquid`Nony:
Thank you for the support. Team Liquid represent!

Poor Ret having to play against a laggy zerg

Also about NonY being reluctant to play PvT are the Ro16 replays released after the games or at the end of the tournament?

Regarding the games between Nony and Horror

Nony must have been so bored playing against Horror, not one game went beyond 15 minutes.

Gonna be bold and say (T)(us)IdrA doesn't make it to the semis. Either (Z)(ca)XiaOzI or (P)(us)NonY will pull the upset.

But I am glad I am not on the same side as (T)(us)IdrA[Media] in the bracket.

lol...

thanks

man watching ret vs flaf without knowing the results was like the most tense thing ever, great series, thankfully with a happy end from my point of view.

Too bad closer lost, he was so close to beating motherfucking white-ra in a bo5. Makes me wonder what would have happened if he had played straight up in game 1.
Definitely a series worth watching

Also, Nony dominating, that was pretty amazing. Too bad he will have to face Tarsons.

quotes still incoming incontrol

they pretty much killed alot until .. you know

closer and ghosta pretty much impressed me, closer did beat white-ra before so not wondering if he did again. pretty much impressed by fellow germans, there is talent in sc to come. go on closer ghosta, although you lost, you are closer to the top than a ghosta could think of horror xD

Cripes, Just looked at the RO16 table.

If Mondragon, Kolll, and Sen make it through (all of which are plausible), we're gonna have nothing but ZvZs up to and including the damned semi-finals on the lower half of the bracket.

Holy shit.

Nice from closer taking away 2 games from ra, but I think from the replays it shows ra is just on another level, really expect to see him at top4 unless some pvp gayness ensues :-o

Both the ZvZ's matches were better than the broadcast matches. Game 5 of Xiaozi vs KogeT was epic. One guy turtled hard and tried to get his econ up while the other guy had awesome muta micro and ran around with a big army.

Closer played pretty well but White-Ra's harass and overall PvZ game sense was just too much for him. There were a lot of nice abuses with mass sairs vs Zerg's ultra/ling and White-Ra's shuttle/reaver harassment was very effective.

Sziky vs Tarson was close but Sziky had a huge weakness in lacking armor upgrades and his late game management and army control was really bad. The lack of armor upgrades lost him game 5.

I am very happy with the R3 results, the four players i wanted to win the most did

(Z)(ca)ToT)XiaOzI(
(P)(ua)mouz.White-Ra
(Z)(nl)Ret
(P)(us)Liquid`NonY

(P)(ca)TT1, holy smokes...
(Z)(de)mTw.CloseR really impressed me, after not dropping a game in the first two rounds he took (P)(ua)mouz.White-Ra to the brink... quite impressive
How fucked up was everyone feeling after game 4 of ret-flaf?? ... after the series dropped to 2-2 i was just like shit...
(Z)(ca)ToT)XiaOzI( ... you r the fuckin man

Huge respect to TT1, Closer, and Flaf. Probably very few expected TT1 to win and for Closer and Flaf to do so well against the best foreign protoss and zerg, respectively.

Also kudos to Tarson!! Thanks for LB points :D. Sick series vs Sziky.

Nony absolutely raped horror, all games were 10min long. Looks like he could be a really big contender. Ret could have a pretty horrible path, castro - sen - kolll is a fairly likely possibility.

Sen was dominant overall and obviously deserved it, but my heart goes out to Ghosta after his masterpiece on Andromeda. Hope you have more success in the future, man

You mean Casper right?

Anyways some very ggs. A bit surpirsed TT1 beat Strelok and Closer gave a pretty good fight after losing the first 2 games, props.
Some nice matchups coming up... So funny Ret got another zvz haha.

That makes one woman watching the stream then! It would rock if tsl2 finals had as many people in the stream as the osl finals - some 3600 in roffles stream anyway.

Speaking of which, does someone have the numbers for the qualifier broadcasts, how many have tuned in?

OH EM GEE.... Day9 and chill should've casted Sziky vs Tarson instead of mond's series. What an epic scrap! Sziky, really impressed me. His muta micro is pretty good, but his defilers are aweesomme. Sick, sick plagues throughout the entire series. His decision making here and there lapsed however. He looked completely rattled at times. He played awfully on destination against mech.

And game 5... WOW. That must be a hard replay for him to watch. He HAD that game... His mutalisk harass was just BRUTAL. He picked off 8+ SCVs and probably 10 marines. OUCH. But then it seemed like he wanted to end it with lurkers there but then decided not to... And that's when the trouble started. His hive was late. And most crucially... He forgot to upgrade consume!!!!! Tarson could've ended it with his midgame push right there before consume finished, (He just started it as soon as Tarson was at his nat) but for whatever reason he pulled back.

And then he forgot to upgrade carapace too D: +3 ultras vs masses of +3 rines. I would've raged so hard, I probably would destroy my keyboard. That also makes me wonder too why a lot of zergs still stick to ultra/ling against SK terran. Tarson's m&m balls were quite impenetrable. His SK style won him two important games. Why don't more zergs go hydra/lurk? I really wanted Sziky to go hydra/lurk since his plagues were sooooo good. So sad that he didn't make it through but I'm excited to see more TvZ games out of Tarson. Tarson vs ret, koll, xiaozi, would be fantastic.
The Past: Yellow, Julyzerg, Chojja, Savior, GGplay -- The Present: Luxury, Jae- The Future: -Dong, maGma, Zero, Effort, Hoejja, hyvaa, by.hero, calm, Action ---> SC2 (Ret?? Kolll Idra!! SEN, Cool, ZergBong, Leenock)

like you said, he didnt even upgrade his carapace so basically hydra lurkers without the +3 armour like ultra would be getting pwned like cakes even worse

Well Sziky his ZvT is his weakest mu and he's pretty weak vs mech so I figured he would get a hard time vs Tarson. But to be honest he gave the series away. Game 5 was just unbelievable how he gave that one away . Too bad because Sziky would've had a chance vs Nony but I don't think Tarson will have much of a chance.

Apart from the fact that we need prep time for a series, they only actually finished playing during the cast

All games from hereout will be cast, however, so it's a moot point I suppose now.

1 - Omg when i read Sen played first time Tornado, i was like what the hell...everyone is saying how they practice and stuff and Sen is like i will just study, pass my exams and run over my opponents anyway, no big deal, such a baller yeah

2 - It is so funny how Ret has to play ZvZ all the time. In courage and in TSL. I can imagine Ret when he saw Castro as his next opp. FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU

3 - TT1 beat Strelok, wow just wow. I can't wait to watch those games.

4 - I am interested how will JF do against Terran. Cause Terran impressed me a lot and don't know anything about JF right now.

Brood War is the best RTS that has ever been created.

Brilliant xD

I think the top probably is the most stacked since Idra, White-Ra and Nony are all there but as the other guy said the bottom is hardly lacking in talent either.

Seriously I LOVE TL. But what the hell is the hold up with the VODs? I can't read any result threads because I want to watch the games with commentators. It cant take this much time to upload a couple of videos... This is sad. TSL deserves better.

Same for me, I think the issue is that you use fast forward. Don't FF and It'll work. Because it stops working when they pause.

Sorry for double post but yeah I'm having the same issue, maybe 20 seconds after the pause the replay bugs out for me as well, there's a squad of mutas from zhi just sitting there at the 12 expo position and the replay doesn't record any more actions. They just both sit there and mine out their bases with nothing happening till the end.

Vods are way to late this time, dont know why but if they want people to watch the casts they miss, vods gotta be up faster. I have been avoiding gg.net and being careful at teamliquid, to avoid spoilers, checking for vods atleast 3 times a day, since I really want to watch sundays cast, and I end up getting spoiled on the tl startpage with their broadcast scheduale.

Is this an exeception, or will it take 5+ days to get vods up everytime?

PS; Great tournement

Dodging left right and centre...I must have checked for vods at least 50 times so far! If there's another way to be notified about these vods I would love if someone could let us know.

So far I've been checking nevake's channel on youtube and Day9's livestream archive. No luck.

If the vod was streamed over livestream, surely it can just be recorded and put up immediately like all the Day9 daily vods?

I've given up avoiding spoilers. I know who won the games now, just wanna watch to see how the games panned out. I really hope the vods for the other rounds don't take this long or it'll be impossible to follow.
