How to Enter 1. Sign up an account at PokerStrategy.com and complete the quiz 2. Post your PS.com username in the Official TSL Raffle Entries Thread. 3. Raffle winner to be announced live during the first TSL Broadcast on January 30th.
- Limit one entry per person - US citizens/residents cannot enter - New TL accounts created after this post cannot enter
i signed up for pokerstrategy, like, 2 years ago, am i elligable to enter on that account?
edit: also, im assuming accounts created (on teamliquid) after the date of this being posted arent elligible to enter since otherwise people could just make numerous fakeroonis on both tl.net and pokerstrategy?

That is an awesome prize... Wow way better than I would've ever guessed. Too bad I live in America and probably couldn't miss school to go to Korea anyway.
Good luck to whoever gets to go though. Epic Prize. Seriously. This might be incentive for the lurkers to start posting, too. For the next big raffle. Hehe.
Kinda sucks that >50% of TL's userbase can't even enter the raffle (I'm just making up the numbers, but I'm pretty sure a large majority of TL users are from the USA).
wow i live in us and will not be able to enter. Really awesome raffle though! Whoever wins it should post something with pictures afterward/deliver messages to progamers!
if this pokerstratagy sponsorship has done anything to me at all, it has made passionate about changing the United States policy on internet gambling, which as of now is fucking retarded.
Great prize for the raffle, it got me to sign up for pokerstrategy. Did the quiz pretty quickly. I already have a pokerstars account but I might try out another site.
And does anyone know what personal identification is required for the $50 start-up money? Also what will this information be used for/can be used for? What are the conditions for using this bonus $50 account?
I don't really want to go though all the reading and quizzing just to find out that I don't agree with their terms and conditions of use, so thanks to anyone in advance who knows this information.

oh yeah some more questions directly regarding the contest reward:
around what time of the year do you estimate the OSL finals will take place? personally i would imagine around late april/early may? is there any leeway as to depature/arrival dates (ie do we have to stay at most five days, does the finals, for example, have to be on the 3rd day of the trip etc)?
edit: more questions lol
what happens if a TL account that has already entered the contest gets banned? what i'm asking is, whether or not the status of a TL account will affect the eligibility of an individual's entry in this contest
So, the contest is for the winner and a friend. Could the friend be from the US, or would they have to be geographically together? >_>
Edit: Still a good question to answer I guess, but I just reread the rules, and the couple friends I have out of the States don't have a TL account yet.. so
Wait, so can an American who doesn't live in the US enter? Or are you ineligible as long as you carry a US passport, regardless of your country of residency?
this is amazing. huge props to the pokerstars management for putting their money on the line to support starcraft in such spectacular fashion (hmm that was interesting alliteration there). it sent tingles down my spine when i read this as well as the first update about TSL2!
I've always wanted to start up poker online, and now I can do it with a small chance on flying to South Korea for the OSL finals? YAY, signing up right now.

Well, based on my limited understanding, a few years ago a law was introduced/enforced that only permited sanctioned(read lobbied-for) online gambling while within America. I presume it applies to all residents of America, regardless of nationality, but does not include American nationals who are not residing within the country.

Well, in that case I'll give it a shot.
Maybe I can lobby for the wining ticket or something. After all, a round trip ticket from Beijing to Korea is likely cheaper than almost any other part of the world.
Forgive me if this is misguided, but how does signing up for a raffle through a website constitute as online gambling? Is the "no-Americans" rule just to avoid any legal snafus?
Pretty cool, I actually know very little about poker but I went ahead and read up on their beginner guides. Was pretty interesting actually, might try to actually play a bit with friends sometime. Very nice site.

This would be determined on a case by case basis. If you do something like accidentally spoil games in a live report thread or get 2-day temp banned for a small matter, you won't be disqualified. If you release a virus to the TL userbase, or spam 500 threads with advertising, I think we'd be justified in DQ'ing you.
I think the safe thing to do is just behave -- I doubt anyone really is planning to get perm banned anytime soon.
omg, the quiz is too hard ^^ lol, i just faild a second time ^^ well,, imma have to read all that stuff and hope for the best!, AMAZING PRIZE !!! and i hope its gonna be an amazing tournament aswell Thanks for evrything "pokerstrategy.com"!!!
Wait, so I don't get why we can't sign up. We can physically register on the site, or at least I can. I watched some practice videos. I think the goal is that their site gets more traffic right? I would use their site to learn poker anyway.
I understand American law says we can't play online poker, but I don't see why that interferes with us reading poker strategy.

well, the whole point of their promotion here is that TL members will sign up on pokerstrategy AND an online poker site and play poker, generating rake for the poker site and through whatever agreement was already in place, pokerstrategy as well. So even if you register on pokerstrategy, you're not actually benefiting them in terms of income. You need to play cash games for that to happen.
Of course, I could be completely wrong PS.com staff, feel free to correct~

Actually, for most US states PLAYING online poker is legal. I'm not super well read on the minutia of it all, but it's not technically illegal for individual persons ;p Just hard to get money online due to banking restrictions, as well as a general lack of sites that allow US citizens (Pokerstars, FullTilt, Cake, Bodog, some microgaming skins, do allow US players tho).
i just got to read this after getting out of a trial that went craptastically for me. and this had me so happy and excited...then i learned i couldn't enter
eff
this made me far grumpier than i already was. lol..well some days just suck. I'm a lucky son of a bitch and i know it
good luck to whoever wins. i hope you make a video about your journey!
On November 13 2009 08:43 aeroH wrote: so many 1count posters in the official entry thread i'll just drive 9 hours to cananda...
Yeah, but I'm assuming that not all of them are eligible. I just went through all the profiles of the people who had less than 10 posts, and at least 3 of them joined November 13, 2009. And the rules state that accounts created after the post made, are ineligible.

It makes me a SadPanda ( OH WAIT I ALREADY AM ToT) that I cant enter in this it seems so unfair to nix America out of this when all we need to do is pass their test and no real gambling is actually needed t.t; that and its not Illegal to gamble online in America its all State Regulated t.t; IIRC

As I understand it, it's illegal for PokerStrategy to send money to American poker accounts. You can ask about the details in their q&a thread if you want.

oh I know and understand that, I just don't see how taking a quiz stops Americans from enrolling in this contest, being no way related to actually giving the offers to the quiz participant, still its their policies and rules so ill just abide by them it doesn't really bother me that much it would just be a cool opportunity if that is understandable.
(In a sort of hindsight I can see how nixing America is easier since the quiz is immediately connected to the offers they give but they could use like an ID proof like LP does but to a degree that could promote fraud but meh.)
I guess they'd have to send money to your account if you won, so it's not just about the other offers they have. The contest is itself an offer, and if you won it would basically be illegal to give you the prize, even though it's not from playing poker.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH uhh dam no America WELL FINE who needs your stupid osl once in a lifetime super asum omg i want it package. *cries endlessly into the night*
Where is OSL mainly located at anyways? Seoul? If so what part of Seoul?
I'd be interested to go see the event if I could buy tickets or just show up to the event? I mean I'm already in Korea rather well try and go see the event personally...

I wonder if pokerstrategy will gain money from this sponsorship.. alot of people will make account there, and start making some rake (i know i will come back for poker because of this)
Also, i wonder how the winners will be informed? *edit: nevermind, just noticed it will be informed on TSL live broadcast
This may be a stupid question, but according to the TL calender, the EVER OnGameNet Starleague 2009 Grand Final (which this competition pertains to) is on January 17. So how can the raffle be drawn on the January 30 if it is already over????
Can I still enter the raffle? I created my account after finding out about this contest for the EVER OSL, but now its for the next one. And I still need to pass the quiz.
