On the ramparts, President Disformation himself, armed with a legally bought assault rifle fires round after round at the incoming swarm of iron. For a moment, mankind stands united against it’s greatest threat. As the last stragglers run through the gate the President gives the order. “Close the Great Door!”. The onslaught doesn’t stop but the steel door, forged in the Great Mills of Pittsburgh, doesn’t give in yet. “Get everyone to safety” And then the President yells another order, at no one in particular. “HOLD THE DOOR!, HOLD THE DOOR!” Type ##Hold the Door to hold the door | ||

And if neither of them got you, wild animals, the radiation, scorching heat or freezing cold would get you, for the climate was far more extreme than before. But the United States remained the last holdout of humanity, a bastion of light in a dead world. It would be centuries before any other place on Earth would be inhabitable again. The World population never rose to pre-crises heights, but America prospered. And so, years passed.
