I haven't caught on yet and I probably never will even if I did try. I just continue to assume, like most logical people, that town have no reason to lie about things, and that gets me through just fine.
Well if you are town, you should't do that. There will always be reasons for townies to lie.

There is nothing wrong in using your role "wrong". I claimed vet in Desert because i was sure there were not 2 vets and debears had "my role and had to be scum". There was a 3p vet and that fucked up the game for the town (not 100%, but still, i made myself useless). I thought i found scum.
There is however a difference in using your role "wrong" and "completely wrong in a way that makes no sense", like Solstice did here.

Austin, scum also fuck up. I know this from a personal experience when i was too confident in Catch 22 that Coag will not shoot me because everyone else has a townread on me in the game. I was fucking wrong. That's why i do this kinda stuff as town. I try to make scum fuck up. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes townies fuck up.
