The eight women players have been disqualified by their federation from the competition, but have NOT been expelled from the London Games, the International Olympic Committeee said. Presumably, that means they could still take part in the individual event. confusing xD I thought it was very unsportsmanlike to deliberately throw the match on the olympic stage. Hard to swallow that suddenly we have two less teams competing for the event, but a strong message had to be sent to prevent this embarrassment from repeating in the future.

If they want to prevent it in the future, the first thing they have to do is to change the format. No athlete should be in a position where losing is more beneficial for them than winning...

You don't follow cycling that much do you? ^^ Gilbert is not really a TT-specialist, he rode our national championship on last year's form and no one came close. As you may have noticed he is not as good as last year and so is his TT, top 20 would be good if you ask me. I look forward to what Taylor Phinney is capable of ^^

The possible solutions are: - A restructuring of the tournament to a single elimination bracket (Like olympic table tennis). That is not very good since it would eliminate a lot of potential candidates from surprising. - A repercharge-like structure, would help some (like judo), but it is still a bad solution. - The badminton-players themself suggests that all last group matches should happen simultaniously and therefore making it a lot harder to plan for this kind of disgrace. It is not a perfect solution, but it has shown some use in other sports (soccer etc.). The rest of the possible solutions require more games. I think that certainly would be possible, since no other sport seems to be using the badminton-fields.
