Yorick + Crazy damage dealer has been around for ages lol. GamesCon 2011 it was all about Yorrick+Jax, and CLG also used that to win the first MLG (at Anaheim 2011 I think?). Then came triple Vayne with Zilean+Yorick+Vayne. Cassi has been a slightly less popular choice but still works. No clue why all of these things suddenly lost popularity.

Well Cass has been losing a little bit of popularity. She's still stupidly fucking strong. I think these strat lost popularity was because it hinges on 1 lane succeeding, if it failed it was pretty much insta lose., and another issue with very strict team comps is that their laning phases can be compromised.

To be fair, that one was really fucking close with the Janna shield buying time for Corki to finish if off with an ult before Yorrick died.
How did he get so low anyway? He had Zion at like 50% near his own turret, camera moves elsewhere, and when it comes back suddenly Yorrick is being chased, dropped down to 30%. Did he tank the turret trying to finish Zion off or something?
And really, I don't know how Dig would have won that without Yorrick. No matter what, every teamfight Scarra ults and immediatly gets killed by Jax in the 3 next seconds.  Dig ate almost every single Dark Binding too, several times Janna and Cass initiated while at half-hp just from hitting Morg's QW.

There's no way they invented yorick cass. Pretty sure I saw TSM run it back when they had the TRM on the team still.

Yorick didn't die. Jax with Phage and Sheen does that amount of damage to you.

Yeah I know Yorrick survived, but it was so tense he could have lived or died it was almost the same to me. Like sub-100 HP?

Dynamic wasn't dealing with Cassiopeia zombie very well at all, I think. In the last fight for example, Cassiopeia got really low (I think OOM as well), and the Cassiopeia zombie was about 1-2 seconds away from expiring, but Jax killed her just before. So instead of removing her from the fight, he actually brought her back into it by killing her.
At that point in the game it didn't really matter anyways, but my point is they weren't making any effort to minimized the effect of the Yorick ultimate. Either don't kill Cassiopeia when Yorick ult is on her, or focus down the ghost as well. Going half-way is the worst choice.
