It's pretty weird for me since in SA school sports is pretty big where every age group had at least 3 teams going(School of 100 per grade) per sport. Well was also at a all boys boarding school so trash talking your friends is pretty much how you interact. 50% of sports communication is trash talk and the other 50 is shouting that you're open for the ball. Anyway in game it's not really trash talking since most of it isn't really good natured. I | ||

but when i play pick up soccer with people i dont really know i dont there was always that weird guy who would shit talk his opponents while playing interschool tennis matches but he was definitely the exception | ||

Someone shit talks you, you get past them and shit talk back, they nod and say alright alright, and try harder. everyone wins. | ||

There's a HUGE difference between me saying "dude you fucking suck get off the court" to my friends versus saying something like that to a total stranger. Banter like this between friends is quite common among my friends, I'll call him an asshole and smile and we both know that everything is cool. But there's no fucking way you can say that to someone you just met without coming off as a total dick. Plus when people type that shit in chat they are not following it up with "lol...jk" they are just being a total dick. | ||

"why don't you go back to 3rd grade before you hurt yourself" if another one i hear a bit in games. Both would be bannable with reddit cheering for the ban from the sidelines. frankly its better to be silent and mute everyone than to act like you are playing a real sport. IF i played a game of basketball with a stranger , and he played completely silently and never said anything he'd be a weirdo. | ||

I've played various pickup sports for a long time, with tons of trash talk, and I've never said to someone on my team: "shut the fuck up you scrub" "i didn't sign up to play with this fucking bitch over here" "god you're so fucking bad" Which is pretty much what that guy was saying. Nor have I walked away from the game and pouted in a corner to let my teammates 4v5 or 10v11 or 6v7 or whatever. | ||
