On SK, I don't even know what to say about this, the move is actually baffling to me unless they plan to build/sign a brand new 5 man roster these aren't players I'd want to have to find a replacement for.

The point of this is to get a gauge on viable champ diversity, an a champ that gets banned means that the team that banned it thinks it was good enough to be worth picking. Not necessarily. While I think it's fair to say that in the vast majority of cases you're correct, I've been holding off on counting bans on the off chance that one of the teams with less to lose decides to use joke bans as part of a strategy for obtaining some choice picks. Mostly it's just been a shortcut for me to avoid subjective discussions on the matter of picks/bans, though at this point it's starting to become more trouble than it's worth. Thus far the only banned champions who haven't also been played are Ashe and Kassadin. Aside from Kassadin, I'm expecting the point to be moot at the end anyway.

I'm pretty sure this hasn't happened yet. Honestly though, I'm surprised this strategy isn't implement more, especially on purple side.

Wouldn't it be easier to just count bans and in the off chance that a team uses joke bans, just discount the entire game/bans?

I think it was KTB but I remember a Korean team often did that where they'd do some really specific bans on purple to leave three OPs open so when blue takes one they grab the other two.
