I like Egoraptor but I disagree with a lot of his views on game mechanics and storytelling in games. He has a huge boner for older games and mechanics and hates shooters basically on principle. Listening to him shit on Bioshock Infinite during one of their Game Grump episodes really rubbed me the wrong way. | ||

well aside from the fight with Elizabeth's mom Edit: Also he complained more about the state of video games in general rather than just Bioshock. Basically he values mechanics WAY MORE than storytelling and for me it's a lot more equal. | ||

sure he can criticize how much you wait in OoT, but he doesn't mention windwaker at all. i actually enjoyed the OoT storyline and felt that it was most immersive game until twilight princess. LttP is great, probably my second most favorite but i hate replaying it cause it isn't immersive | ||

You can never skip those animation in the game, and those repeated animation/waiting time add nothing to enrich your experience of the game. I do enjoy a Link to the Past a lot more than the recent games, but it's mostly just preference. | ||

Sure, OoT had a lot of running back and forth (one of the things that annoyed me about it), but that's a horrible complaint. He's trying to make it sound like every game should be completely driven by "go do the thing because it's fun". Hey, don't get me wrong, exploration is fun, sure! But the game is trying to give an explanation for why your character should care about these things, and that's good. Is there a large disconnect between the story and the game? Yes, you basically could have replaced any fetch quest in OoT with any other one and had the same game, but fuck don't knock it for trying. | ||

It goes back to him valuing mechanics over storytelling. Pretty sure if it was up to him games as a story telling medium would have never evolved passed the NES era. | ||

What I didn't like about OoT was I played Majora's Mask first and it felt like a significantly better game. I really liked the time looping and the surreal atmosphere, and the dungeons were much more memorable to me. | ||
