Don't know why you're complaining. Nobody in their right mind would run BoX series' in groupstage because it would take months to finish. Only way to avoid tiebreakers is MSL-style groups rather than OSL-style round robin--which is arguably less "fair" because not everyone gets to play everyone else.

The whole point of LoL is picks, bans, and counterpicks. With one game you really don't get to see any of that. And it's not just me that's frustrated since this tournament barely gets any viewers. It's pretty badly run for how sick all the graphics and animations are.

It's somewhat unfair when the game has so much randomness into it.

Practically speaking, what you're looking for is a Proleague-style league that only plans on playing 1 match per night (2 if you somehow got a second broadcast channel and could run them simultaneiously). In that case you could run Bo3s and be OK with only having 1 match per night (the ACE DotA league in China does this right now). The problem is that this type of league format is not really scalable to 16 teams. It only works if the number of teams is small enough so that over a season, each team gets a sufficient number of games against every other team. Realistically this kind of format would only work if you kept the number of teams down to about 8-10.

Well in IPL and MLG teams have to lose 2 bo3 to be kicked out of the tourney, and for the IEM world championship it is a group of 6, so that every team gets at least 5 games. Only the smaller IEM tourneys have as few games per team as the OGN tournament. Everybody knows that the results for these bo1s are extremely random.

IPL and MLG first off have less teams participating--and therefore can afford to skip even having groupstages (neither MLG nor IPL have run groupstages), and also don't have to fit as strict of a time constraint as OGN does. It's broadcast television FFS. It's not like the league just gets to pick however long they want to run the league. They were probably provided with a time-frame and broadcast schedule and were forced to come up with a format that could finish in the allotted time. They're running on live television. Big difference from GSL, because GSL isn't competing with anyone else's time-slot. GSL can essentially set their own schedule because they're not being TV-broadcast, whereas the OGN league has to fit in their allotted broadcast slot. Just because OGN owns the studio doesn't mean it's feasible for them to monopolize that time slot every night of the week.

You would also have to consider the average game time for a SC2 game and a LoL game. A Bo3 in SC2 goes ~30-60 min on average while a LoL Bo3 would take ~90-120 min on average. Of course there are exceptions where you get a 60 min TvT or a 20 min surrender but leagues have to make schedules based on the average.

As for the final games of group B, I thought Dignitas were the weaker team but I expected them to go out in a close game. Azubu Frost were the stronger team (finished 2nd Spring) and I have a lot of respect for MaknooN, he is a beast both as a player and a team captain. I remember him since I was first watching lol streams through Hotshot and MaknooN had great mechanics despite the Korean ping. A bit sad to see Dignitas go but shit happens when competition level is so high. All groups in my mind have 3 great teams and 1 weak one. I expect Xenics Storm to top Group C with ease but I got no clue about will get 2nd.
