Heroes of the storm has grown to have a nice life on TeamLiquid. We have a thriving forum, a calendar feature, an awesome Liquipedia section, and a host of writers who produce amazing content on a consistent basis. It's time for us to grow that and give Heroes a more permanent home on our site, so you can find all this content in one place. We're happy to announce a landing page where, finally, the TL users can do that.
Originally this had only pictures of cats. I kind of liked that version.
Shortly we'll also have a link to this on the top of the website so its easily found from any page on TeamLiquid. As with anything in life this is all subject to change. We're already looking at additions we can make and we're always striving to improve. Your feedback is always helpful there, so let us know what we could do to make it nicer for you or what information you want listed there. Maybe more gadgets. I like gadgets.

Having 0% faith in the game I salute you nevertheless. It's like half step toward liquidheroes or liquidstorm or whatever.

Glad to see this finally up. The Heroes Writing team has been working really hard to get as much traffic coming through here as possible. This will finally open up us up to some people who may not have known how hard we work over here ^^.

I think it's reasonable when you look at how relatively dead LiquidHearth is compared to how much people actually play Hearthstone. It's hard to predict what games people are going to want to talk about. Plus everyone wants to access the same blogs / community threads anyways, so why bother splitting the site each time a new game starts to take off?

Sounds like a great April fool's day hero rotation.

Is LiquidHearth dead? I don't go there enough to know how regularly updated it is, etc., but I certainly find new content from good writers (including pros) on a pretty regular basis when I visit...
Okay, feedback first
Is it just because it's new that there are no links under the Discussion and Guides sections? Also text is kinda hard to see on images and isn't quite consistent with the formatting on the rest of TL.net. Is that on purpose, or is there still updating to be done?
Anyways, I'm very excited to see that TL is finally giving Heroes a little front page love because:

Don't want to sound negative, but this looks like an Elephant's Graveyard where Hots can go die in peace without disturbing the SC main page. I mean, in that landing page there is like nothing. 17 featured stream of witch none about Hots. The latest Spotlighted thread is random ramblings about fotm hero. I really don't get this trend of splitting the community by game. Was not happy when Dota got splitted, even tho that was big enaugh to at least be understandable. This seems unnecessary.
|
This was the best way to go about it.
For consistency's sake, if the developers made separate domains for all the other games, then heroes should get its own domain as well. Personally I think the switch to separate domains was disastrously bad, so perhaps those can be changed to have their own landing page as well. It's probably too late for that though.

I want to share a little bit of insight about what we think of the landing page, why is it necessary and what does it mean for Liquid heroes going forward.
First of all, the heroes of the Storm staff has been putting a lot of effort creating articles and guides with a good amount of success, still we know we can do more than that.
It is pretty hard to grow a community by having just a forum, so we needed a space dedicated to Heroes of the Storm that would enable us to grow the community outside of TL existing user base, allowing us to grow.
And so the idea of having a landing page was proposed. This would enable us to have a space within TL, maintaining the existing user base without bothering the sc2 fan base by taking their space, while also giving us a place to grow, and give the community something nicer than just a forum.
Going forward we are already planning on further improvements to the landing page by adding other sections like featured videos, liquidpedia and others. We are going to also be rampig up our coverage inside TL, as most of what we've done esports related has been going towarda heroesofthestorm/esports with out partnership with Blizzard.
The dissucussion and Guide thinga are buttons that take you to the current general discussion thread and our staff guide compilation.
If you have feedback of how we can improve this please share it. We know there is still much to be done but we wanted to get this out to you as fast as we could so you had a better place to discuss the game.
And to Dekalinder you need to go to your right bar settings to enable your heroes of the Storm streams.
We also have a couple of other announcements to make in the very near future so look forward to that.

Liking the way you are doing the HOTS work, always read and lurk in there. Liquipedia on it as usual is very informative, so keep it up team!

Yay! I love all the HotS content you guys have been providing! Well done!

Why not Liquidheroes.net? There are a lot of reasons for this, but one of the main ones is that it would just keep spreading thin the existing TL community with no guarantee that it would make it grow. We still wanted place to share our work and grow the community, as we all love heroes and want to give our best to help grow this game we like so much. And so the idea of having a landing page was propused. TL is already spread thin. With 6!! Separate domains that is a clear statement by the developers that community separation for the sake of organization is an important part of design.
Having heroes get a landing page instead of a domain will confuse new users. The most important part of web design is to ask what would the man from mars think of this website. The man who knows NOTHING about the community
The separation as opposed to sub forums is bad enough, but having an additional degree of separation complicates matters even more. Smash would presumably come next. Do they get a landing lage? Do we combine smash 4 and melee?
Go back to the days of the customizable front page and game specific subforums. The non TL sites are barren in comparison to TL itself.
And let me browse at 960px width without going to a tablet display.

@Thaniri - I think the landing page is fine since it's still part of the main forums, however, until heroes in TL gets a lot bigger, they shouldn't have a separate sub domain. Hearth, LoL, Dota have a way bigger following that heroes that's for sure.

I think that's a fair compromise, though I do think that the argument being made, given the size of the community justifies that all the subforums have their own landing page. Hell there are more blogs made than HotS content per week, but there is no blog landing page. That said I respect the initiative and wish the HotS crew the best of luck, and if this is what they need and have made, more power to them.

And one will be the first. It's not really realistic to do main pages for all the subcommunities at the same time, you would much rather start small and iron out any potential bugs before you do a huge rollout. Just my 2 cents

You guys didnt understand my post. I think having several domains is also a bad idea, and becomes MORE bad if landing pages are used as well to perform the same function.
All sub domains, or all landing pages. Better yet go back to subforums. Consistency is KEY.
Edit: look at a world news site that separates news by continent/region. Each region has its own page sometimes a subdomain. The thing is theyre all the same. Africa might have less news posted than Europe but it still gets the same treatment.

There should be a link to the forums directly from the top of that page. My current process is to go to teamliquid and scroll down the long list of forums until I see the heroes part.
I mean, I don't want to have to bookmark both the forums AND this page. Make my bookmarks efficient.

We're going to fix a few things ASAP- like adding a direct forum link- so that becomes a non-issue. Expect it to be fixed soon.

It should fill that empty space at the bottom nicely as well.

Right now we have it nicely set up so the "discussion" button goes to forums and the "builds" button goes to our quick talent builds. We have a few more changes to hopefully implement in the future, but right now it just feels so good to have our landing page out!

In theory, that makes sense, but if we have the forum, why is there any need to have links to the top threads? ^^ I think the landing page is meant to mimic the Home screen of TL.net and highlight some of the bigger articles and topics while allowing you to access the forums on the left-hand side. At the moment, the landing page is a bit sparse, I agree, but we have more ideas and plans to improve it in the future.
Speaking of which, quick update on the Landing Page:
- Discussion tab now links to the forum proper instead of just the most recent patch discussion. We decided this was a better tool since we were lacking a direct link to the forum.
- Guides tab changed to "Builds" and now links to the Quick Talents Guide instead of our Heroes Guide collection. This made sense because it was right next to the weekly hero rotation, and we are less of a "guide" site anyway.
- Some topic changes, including our newest article, Playing From Behind.
Uhhhhh....also what Vaalia said.
