It's not that simple as him lifting a finger, though. While commoners might be brain-washed enough to follow him without questions, those with high political positions (such as his sub-coordinates) are most likely well-educated and knows what the fuck they are doing - and what they shouldn't do. At the end if Kim Jong Il wants to do something major it has to be passed to his sub-coordinates, and I doubt they will listen to a dying person.

While that is mostly true, you gotta realize back in the old ancients days in a system of monarchy, emperors and all where it is somewhat similar to North Korea's state atm, all the people, even his sub-coordinates, subjects and all alike were super loyal and would do anything and everything their leader would tell them to do even committing suicide. Who and what is to say that the case isn't similar here with Kim Jong il and his sub-coordinates?? If anything, I can see calling himself and everyone around him "Emperor".

A more proper analogy would probably be the USSR after Stalin; most power being in the hands of the people behind him in the party, with him being forced to abide to their decisions in order to stay in his position as the figurehead which legitimize the policies enforced by the government. Kim Jong-Il dying shouldn't really make a difference, unless his successor somehow manage to outmaneuver the old hawks in the government, but that is probably unlikely and the situation will most likely remain the same until the old guard have died off from old age.
1000 at least.

well, i think we all guessed he had some sort of cancer or ailment, given the hush on his health over the last few months, and NK ramping up their nuclear activities

wonder how things will change for the people of NK. i doubt theyll be pulled out of their dictatorship, but maybe KJI's successor will be more benevolent. or not.

Hes just the most tyranical one left around really.

Dude... all the North Koreans know that the propaganda is complete bullshit. I mean, honestly, they know far better than you just how shitty their lives are and they only accept the propaganda because they are forced to. Its oppression that's keeping them in line, not the lies. It pisses me off how you think the North Korean people, who are just as human and aware as you, are so blind and gullible.

And its not like Kim Jung Il's death is going to change anything in the status of North Korean propaganda. For instance, you do know that Kim Jung Sung is still the official President of North Korea, right? North Korea will just continue praising Kim Jung Sung and Kim Jung Il, only they'll start praising Kim Jung Un now too.

Unswerving resolve to develop nuclear weapons -> Lots of gamma radiation/Lots of free radicals -> DNA replication distorted -> Proto-oncogene and tumour suppressor gene damaged -> Cancer.

Just goes to show that you reap what you sow.

The death of Kim Jong Il is the end of the world, as it is the end to all progressive-minded and harmonious peoples whose goal it is to spread happiness and prosperity to all corners of the Earth even in the face of dastardly mentally retarded war-mongering bestial regressive capitalist murderers who spend 27 hours a day through the use of a bourgeoisie and imperialist time machine that runs on the sorrow and misery of honest hard working people and therefore with no one left to defy these dog raping jay walking intellectually devoid mongrel backwards minded oppressive hate-spewing capitalist imperialists the world can have no course but destruciton.

Lol your name is very fitting. There just as gullible as any other human, anyone can be tricked. Id just think itd be amuzing for him to pull some antics such as him rising to the heavens.... cause I dont believe anyone in there right mind could really take that seriously, but hey I guess thats why theres religion, keep the masses entertained and in fear of the unknown. If they do adore his son as a god, didnt you just prove your own statement that they are gullible?

Hopefully, as long as he treats his people unlike cattle/pawns. I think the entire worlds governments could do that a little bit better.

Let me reiterate: the North Korean government hails Kim Jung Il as a supreme leader, but the North Korean people do not. People can see injustice and falsehood when they see it, and with half of the country on the brink of starvation while government officials drive around in Mercedes, its definitely there. Have you ever talked to someone that used to live in the USSR or Communist China? If citizens do not at least pretend to agree with what it says, they will be persecuted. And in case you don't know, there have been several (don't know how many) North Koreans that have escaped from the country and testified to how horrible it was there.

Ok, sure you don't believe in religion, how impressive of you. Don't you think that there are people in North Korea as well that don't believe in Kim Jung Il as a god? See, it's not that hard to contemplate. Whether Kim Jung Il believes it or not matters little- he's batshit crazy. As for his son, once again, I said that the government hails the family, not the people.
