To me MJ was the pinnacle of the 80s, an experimental and visual time driven by many people though perfected by this one artist. It says a lot when I have been out for a walk around the block that I hear a Jackson song coming from a car or a house that it must mean something to these people, on a more personal note my girlfriend's father came over with a thriller vinyl an blasted the shit really loud ( I feared a police disturbance call) but all was good, that first edition sounded just as good as when it did those many years ago.

The guy was prodigious enough to make music appreciation almost completely objective. even if you dont like his music, he's an icon. a world figure. like Mani said, he was more than music, he inspired, influenced, transformed, transcended cultures, invented, entertained, gave a positive message, gave to charities...etc.. Look, you may like his musical talents, but seperate his skill from his personal being please. This is the guy who paid 24 million to settle a molestation case out of court. This is a guy who slept with little kids that he paid to visit Neverland. How anyone can look up to molesters and pedophiles, regardless of their talents well...there is something strangely sadistic to that. Just because you are acquitted in a court of law (Which, if you have money and or a celebrity you are all but guaranteed acquittal), which means they found you 'not guilty' not 'innocent' doesn't mean he/she hasn't actually committed the crime. Perfect case for this is OJ. Please, I may have eclectic music tastes (Black, Ambient, Melodic Death, Symphonic, Neo-Classical, Power, etc. metal), but I am in no way, as bizarre as a person who commits disgusting crimes, changes ethnicity, believes to be in a fairy tale, etc upon etc. All of my friends also listen to only the same things I do (Genre wise) and we are by no means bizarre. Lest I remind you, there are many world figures, solely being a world figure does not lead credence to being looked upon positively (See: Dictators, Felons, etc.). Now, having said that, everyone here is by all means entitled to their own opinions, allowed to grieve, etc., but please there are many people who dislike MJ very much for his horrendous acts, which transcends anything else. Also, I'm tired of hearing this for a week straight when important issues such as Cap and Trade is hardly noticed in the media. Not only that, but Sheila Lee, is reprehensible.

Anyways, how can a kid not be sure? Because he doesn't understand the gravitas of the situation.

Dude, idk where your from but say if a Mom or Dad sleep with their kids ( not stick their dick in the kid incase you were wondering ) just shows that the mom/dad has love for the kid and cares about them.

All 'evidence' there was was based on speculation by the media.. the only allegations were those of the kid, whose visual descriptions didn't match reality. Imo giving a false and incorrect description has nothing to do with 'not being sure'. A big investigation had been done, but not a single piece of plausible evidence could be found. Instead of wanting to completely destroy MJ, the kiddo wanted $60 mil to settle for his complaint + a court order to allow him to publish his own musical composition instead? In an interview MJ said that he was outraged when his lawyers said they couldn't 100% make sure that justice would prevail. The $22 mil settlement he made was mainly a decision made by his lawyers and advisers. I honestly believe that MJ tried to make the world a better place and had a great genuine love for others. He has always been very generous and spent a lot of his profit on charities and devoted his life to entertain the public and to give them what they wanted. This made him an odd guy that never had been able to grow up a normal life, which caused him to be misunderstood by the public. I guess his 'creepy' looks didn't really work in his favor either. Anyways, if you want to separate his skill from his personal being, you might want to consider all the great things he has done next to the rumors and scandals which were mainly hyped by the media but never have been proven.

The claim that Michael Jackson (of all people! why not Mozart, or John Lennon or Animal Collective?) made "musical appreciation almost completely objective" is, if I understand it correctly, rather outlandish.

Anyways, if you want to separate his skill from his personal being, you might want to consider all the great things he has done next to the rumors and scandals which were mainly hyped by the media but never have been proven. Look, just to clear this up I'm going to be succinct so you can get to the heart of the issue without any 'celebrity' bias. From the BBC documentary and MJ's own recorded account: "I have slept in a bed with many children," Now, think about this for a second. This at the time was a 45 year old man. Ask yourself, would you ever allow your children to sleep in bed, with a 45 year old man? Do you think those actions constitute a mental deficiency and a clear sexual problem? Why would anyone laud this guy? Sure, he was a musician and popular, but his actions have superceded his fame. It's time to stop holding celebrity's above others, as if they are ordained and apparently hold some greater admiration. This coming in the same week in which the most decorated soldier in the history of the US who had multiple purple hearts, and served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam and flew countless missions died. That is the person people should look up to and admire. I guess the sworn affidavit by the child was propagated by the media......and as such, wasn't evidence. I would be remis if I did not ask you, what do you feel constitutes evidence? http://i.cdn.turner.com/trutv/thesmokinggun.com/graphics/art2/mjdec1.gif http://i.cdn.turner.com/trutv/thesmokinggun.com/graphics/art2/mjdec2.gif http://i.cdn.turner.com/trutv/thesmokinggun.com/graphics/art2/mjdec3.gif http://i.cdn.turner.com/trutv/thesmokinggun.com/graphics/art2/mjdec4.gif This isn't the only time, nor the first to come forward. The recurring issue, and the fact that MJ himself admitted to sleeping with children paints a pretty clear picture. That said, I'll also point out in regards to the crazy antics of late by Sheila Lee and Al Sharpton this whole MJ ordeal lately is such a damn freak show and as a nation and a society, we have so much more to worry about and many more deserving people of media attention.
