And you cant claim that blasting fucking music until 7 in the morning is their right and he can suck it up, wtf. Yeh, totally agree with this. It's ridiculous that anyone is blaming him for choosing there to live and acting like having a party until early morning is some right. I swear some of you must have been raised badly.

I guess I'm naturally able to fall asleep no problem with loud noise then. I party all the time late at night. Personally, I don't think cops should be called until like 1:30 at night at the earliest, and only in extreme cases. You're in a friggin' apartment complex you gotta compromise... you decided to live in a complex where there are a shitton of people living next to you. And yes I know that's very biased from my side and bordering on nonsensical, I just hate it when people get anal about the littlest of noise. I mean, typically if you have loud music in an apartment, it gets significantly muffled and quieter to other apartments as there are walls. Usually the music you hear is less than half the volume you'd have your TV on. Cool wanna come to the wkd party im having nextdoor to you the night before ur finals? PARRRTAAY! I go to the study rooms. I understand others want to party. Thus, I am practical. I study better in study rooms anyways, but it's beyond the point that they are available. Concerning sleeping, I pull all nighters before all my finals and don't sleep anyways, so it isn't a personal issue. Although I didn't realize these parties were all nighters into 7 AM, I assumed they were done around 2-3 AM. Parties I go to rarely go past 3:30 AM. And everyone has finals at the same time, and people rarely party hard before finals, so I'm not sure where that's the issue. At times I have to get up as early as 6:00 AM. Concerning not going later than 2 AM, I must have missed it. I would get annoyed past 2:00 AM and call the cops prob around 3:00 AM, complete misunderstanding on my part.

So this morning I came up with the solution for people who throw things off the building. I slap them in their head until they lie quietly on the floor, they won't resist much because they are drunk. Then I will take a knife and carve "I will not throw shit off the building" into their arms and forehead. Then I will throw them off the building. This should set an example. Yes, I won't actually do this. I called the cops, it took them an hour to kill the party. The music wasn't as obnoxious loud as last time, but the combination of last time, with this douche throwing shit (which makes a lot of noise too) and the awfuly bad taste in music prevented me to sleep and made me call the cops. Maybe I killed the party for the wrong reasons but I can handle only so much, after not having slept properly for 44 hours. Travis, your solution sounds good. But when I gathered the people, how should we proceed? Right now every now and then people come out of their appartment and look down at the garbage dump which used to be our entrance with shaken heads. So there is definatly support for my case. Baal, where I live, we have laws against noise at night. But we also have a very tolerant police. I have the law on my side. Doesn't matter wether there is a "party history". Sometimes the party people are nice. A month ago, there was a party at my etage. I came home at 1:30 am from a concert. I sat down, played some starcraft. Wanted to sleep at 2:30. Party was still going on. So I walked over there, asked a random dude; who is giving this party? He points at some punk (litterally punk, with the hair and the tatoes and shit, but luckily I have long hair and somewhat of a beard, so I could handle his punkiness with my metalness). I said to the punk, while he was carressed by two groupies: "Dude, it's late, can you tune down the music?" He snapped his fingers, one of his under-punks came over and he told him: "Fix this for me" So we went in, the under-punk asks me, what time is it? I said: 2:30, he replied: yeah, it's about time. And he tunes down the music. Respect. About the sound level last night (the party till 7:15), I could feel the bass. When I can feel bass, the music is fkin loud.

Was actually very interesting to read all the replies. Seems like a lot of people are missing the part that the party is going all the way till 7 in the morning. That is just off... Also, OP mentioned only 5-10% of the people in the building are party-goers. Not even close to what a "long time history party building" should be. I bought my own condo (new built) and will be moving in September. God forbid I would ever be in this type of situation. I would really rip people's face off.

Thats 2-5 nights and if they occur all the week (and not just on the weekends) its should take you at most a week to have called the cops on them all, which is weird since you said this has been going on for a month? Edit: How is the house built? is it 10 stories high or like 2 stories high and REALLY wide/deep?

We have a right to party till 7:00am+ ever day? Seriously? Some kids these days, utter trash. Some of the arguments are down right retarded as well. Comparing the partying to the smell of ethnic food? Last I checked food is a tad more important than partying all the damn time. Jeez, every day another blow to my faith in humanity. Navane, good luck man. Sounds like war to me, I hope you're prepared.

I must say that those arent party-goers, more like hoolingans xD. I agree you have all the right to call the cops and shut down that. As for the rest of the parties, i dont think there's much you can do if every day is a different host, other than move out ![]()

It's a choice to cook food that annoys your neighbors; you don't HAVE to cook that smelly shit every day, it's not your religion or some shit. It's also a choice to party late at night; you don't HAVE to party beyond 2 am, but there is alcohol and weed and music so you want to. The smell lasts just as long as a party would. Fuck off.

Edit; Ya for real in my city cops come to parties ALL the time by like 1am at the latest. Shit gets broken up real fast if it's too loud. The hardcore party people just go from party to party which are usually on different streets/blocks (talking about house parties near campus). Parties further away from campus get broken up even faster. People here don't seem to have a problem calling the cops if younger people are pissing them off. Oh also, if you want to be vindictive, getting shit stolen from your party is a great way to make a host not want to have more parties. Stolen shit + toilet clog is just a pain in the ass. If that happens like 3 parties in a row guy will throw in the towel. Be ninja

The difference is pretty obvious, why are you so angry? Calm down. In cases of "smelly" food most people probably aren't aware that it's so noticeable. People tell me shin ramen and some thai sauces I use have a reaaally strong smell, but I hardly notice it at all. Also, situations where the smell is so strong that it really permeates the building are fairly rare. On the other hand, the fact that loud frequent parties are going to be disturbing is obvious to anyone, regardless of their status as a "partier", so willingly neglecting to moderate such habits is actively disrespectful and potentially harmful to neighbors. Functionally, the bottom line is that while you may not be able to do anything about your neighbor's cooking, you just might be able to do something about your neighbor's partying (if it gets out of hand). If something screws with your sleep (/life) you fix it. A lot of these posts with the "damn kids and their music" theme are pretty silly, but then the "damn kids" come back and make themselves look twice as ridiculous - do you not see this? Also - is it true that you've been banned 6 times?

In that case if you got enough support, get signatures or something from everyone, and give it to the landlord with a list of who the offenders are. Make it say that the signers are going to start moving out if the noise isn't dealt with. It doesn't matter if it is true or not. there may be better ideas than this, if someone can come up with one. Give specific examples of their behavior. I would include the dangerous throwing of shit off the roof.

Funny you should compare partying to offensive smells. That's why smoking is banned in so many residences / buildings: because the smell is awful and it travels everywhere. (Blaming second-hand smoke for cancer is mainly a convenient way for the non-smoking population to get rid of the smell.) Not unlike the awful noise of a late-night party. In addition, our campus library explicity states that foods with strong odours are banned. So if you ask me, society is slowly starting to recognize that foods with particularly strong odours can be offensive, especially as more and more people bring their cooking from different cultures. Last weekend I came back to discover our house REEKING of dead fish. It was disgusting. So I talked to my housemates about it, and found out one of them was cooking with some dried shrimp/fish thing that was causing the smell. Solution: he just opens the kitchen window whenever he cooks with it from now on, and everyone is happy. Unfortunately, you can't just open a window to eliminate your party's loud noise. (Same goes for smoking.) So I guess all those party-goers will just have to live with semi-normal sleeping hours like the rest of the population.

First of all, OP did fuck up when he moved in. What if 5-10% of the people do parties, if their loud shit can be heard by EVERYBODY then you don't need to do extensive research about it, because every single neighbour will know and probably tell you about it if you ask around before moving in. It is even better that less people throw the parties because you are less likely to randomly ask one of them who may or may not mention it (I am fairly sure he would cuz he wouldn't want someone who hates to party to move in either for the exact issues OP has). Secondly, it is unclear if the other neighbours who want to sleep attempted to do something about it? Have they called the police as well? Or maybe you *are* a bit too intolerant? I wouldn't believe that everyone else that is bothered by the problem as much as you is a pussy and you alone dare to step up to it? Don't take this the wrong way but so far it somewhat comes off as you are closer to the sociopat extremity than to the holy warrior of noise free enviroment one...
