While I can understand their attachment to an inanimate object, I can't help but feel sorry for them for having to resort to buying a life-size doll to provide them with the companionship they lack in their lives. I'm sort of torn: I'm attached to physical objects, like my computer and guitar, but I think that trying to replace a living, breathing, thinking being with an inanimate object crosses some kind of line. However, it's not illegal, so more power to them. I just wish they'd spend less time at home changing out tongues and faces to match the situational context and more time out doing things. Join a club, or something.

it was sort of weird to watch, maybe because dolls creep me out. but on a more constructive note, don't you think that.. none of these people actually look or seem like they would have much trouble fitting into society. i bet if they took the energy and time they put into these dolls, they would have had a human companion.. just have to look in the right places. i mean, i think they're okay people, none of them are ugly or anything.. =/ makes me sorta sad watching it.

Watching the guy Davecat (wtf is with that name) was quite emotional, but the other guy with 8 dolls and a gf, sounded like an ass. edit: Did anyone else watch the whole thing?

Yeah, I agree. It seems like they could all be capable of integrating into some sort of a society (although I'm not too sure about the guy from Virginia with guns who is kinda scary and looks like a character out of Twisted Metal Black). Mike is the only one among the bunch who I think is sorta perverted. I mean, he says he's involved in clubs, has friends and he even had that relationship with the girl in the video (although apparently the sex with the dolls was better haha) but he still keeps those dolls for sex. He also seems to have a view about the dolls much like most people would: that they are just dolls and that's about it, yet he has all these different types just to get off it seems. The video was quite interesting and sad as well. The grossest part was when Mike was cleaning out one of his dolls after it was smelling like "fish" and you actually saw some of that guck. ![]()

Poll: Which one would you rather have your son be? (Vote): Gay with a regular social life (Vote): Into "real dolls" with a lacking social life + Show Spoiler + I think I would want my son to be gay with a regular social life because I think he would feel happier with real companionship. Edit: sorry to the person who already voted, had to adjust poll so people couldn't pick the 0 option haha.

Either way, these guys have the worst parents ever.

I am not sure if it was because of the tone of the documentary or not, but to me it felt like there was a melancholy mood coming from each real doll owner (least so with Mike). They made it very clear they weren't comfortable with females (people?) in general and I am not sure if that spoke of parental/social network failings or utter weakness of personality. They just seem crippled by fear, and I especially felt that with Davecat, whom I identified the most with (age group, enjoys nerdy things, anime.. though I am much more socially normal). I am not sure if I pity them or am happy for them. Both on some levels, I think.

Exactly what is your point? oh let me explain: There is a "bump" function in which people can re use old threads so as to CONTRIBUTE to a pre existing topic as oppose to re starting a topic that probably, has already been covered. If you need further explanation as to why its bad to just remake topics all the time I would advice you to visit disneyland ![]()

I suppose a StarCraft gamer like you can tell an educated journalist like me LOT'S about why bringing up old news i BAAAD! I mean, imagine a news house bringing up old topics just because it would happen to have something weird like "news value". Jikes.

If that was the case then I chose the gay guy because both of them would have nearly a zero chance of bearing a child to continue the blood line, but at least the gay son would probably have a better chance of contributing something to society.Hmmm my poll seems really lopsided haha. When I meant a "lacking social life", I meant something not as extreme as some of those guys in the video, maybe something a little more so like Mike. I dunno, I guess more people than I thought here on TL are open minded. If the real dolls guy is (for the most part) a normal person who just happens to be into dolls...then yeah, I'd choose him.
