Here is George Bell, in 1985, swinging for the fences in a 1-0 game with the tying run on 2nd base in a game between the teams with the two best pitching staffs in baseball. It didn't matter how precious runs were .. .the Blue Jays would almost never bunt. Notice Tony Kubek comments that the Blue Jays almost never bunting while always playing for the big inning is a valid strategic option. At no point does Kubek bad mouth the Blue Jays for using a strategy that is outside traditional baseball thinking. So the narrative in Moneyball that everyone was against the 2002 Oakland A's approach to the game ... is pure BS. The early 80s Blue Jays had a fraction of the resources of the 2002 Oakland A's. No one wanted to play in that frozen hell hole. The stadium was right on the lake and it was fucking freezing even in the middle of June. The Blue Jays played in the worst Baseball Park in the league on the worst artificial surface in the league. That didn't stop Gillick. The Blue Jays won any way. Moneyball is an entertaining piece of pure fiction.

Namco was founded in 1955 and exactly 42 years ago today, May 22 1980, Namco released Pacman. The highest revenue video game of its time by a stupidly wide margin. The thing with Pacman was... unlike Space Invaders, Galaxian, and Galaga... lots and lots of women played Pacman. The dot eating maze game genre was now born. Dozens of games in the genre made from 1981-1984 were objectively better than Pacman. Thing is... Pacman was first. Also, the logic behind how the ghosts moved... was really really really fucking cool. Pacman was pure genius.
