As you can see it's mostly a large residential area with a few shops and uni. This is just what they did when assaulting urban areas in Syria. They bombed almost every single hospital they could find. I hoped they wouldn't in Ukraine. https://www.google.com/maps/place/47°05'49.0"N 37°31'59.7"E/@47.0980694,37.5329795,1774m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x198bc6e5fd967b64!8m2!3d47.096947!4d37.533261

Some of our key administration buildings survived Hitler invasion back in days, but with Putler it's much worse Don't you think that hoping is simply not enough?

Oh there's quite a big difference between what I am hoping for and what I think will happen, regarding Russia's historic brutality. Which is why I support every type of help given to Ukraine and will never ever forgive Russia.

But reality is so harsh and cruel, I cannot imagine doing something like that to innocent people or civilians no matter who they are, not even mentioning kids/newborns. Those ones who gave an order and those ones who executed are barbarians and must be hanged w/o any compassion or emphaty

And then you have russians who proudly promote the 'Z' invasion sign. How can people be like that.

If you haven't, please do your fair bit as war is devastating and this is war on democracy as you all well know. Other than that, I'm happy that most of the world is coming together, especially after a tough period like COVID after 2 years since this pandemic began. I also did donate few days ago. In addition to doing the right thing it also kinda helped me, psychologically speaking. I felt helpless and unable to do anything about what is happening. Donating gave me the feeling of "doing my part". Don't know how good these are, but some lists of organizations: https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/s6g5un/want_to_support_ukraine_heres_a_list_of_charities/ https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/22955885/donate-ukraine I donated to HIAS

It might be impossible and/or unwise to try to stamp out the calls for a no-fly-zone, but I can't help but to think that there is only bitterness and disappointment coming if the discussion continues like it has so far. Zelenskiy calling the international community responsible for a humanitarian catastrophe if they don't impose the NFZ seems like an escalation in this. Well, his perspective is likely that Ukraine is doomed anyway without it, so "poisoning the relations" then becomes a moot point, as there will no longer be a Ukraine to have poisoned relations with. Do you think there is some longer game to be played here by Ukraine, one where they manage to hold onto their territory for long enough for Putin to negotiate or for some internal pressure to oust him? The russian military has performed horribly, but the overwhelming resource disparity is still there. I actually think a hostile occupation of entire Ukraine and/or effective annexation to Russia are already off the table. There aren't enough troops to occupy a country that large that doesn't want to be occupied. And as things are going even occupation of the major cities in the eastern part of the country is still long way off. So Ukraine will continue to exist regardless. So assuming Ukraine exists after the war, building resentment towards/from EU/NATO/others isn't helpful. Whether it can be avoided is debatable, but "you should have helped us more/your fault that we suffered this much" isn't particularly good starting point for a future relationship. The extent and intensity of that kind of feeling can vary, but I think it'll unfortunately be there in some amounts anyways. It'll also be unavoidable in some ways, the NFZ discussion is just one major contributing factor. One aspect I didn't think about, but was going around, is that Ukraine can use the NFZ as leverage to get other help. So by calling for the NFZ they're more likely to get weapons and supplies than what they'd get by just asking for those directly. It's very cynical, but it's a a war and international politics aren't exactly full of good will and pure hearts even at peace times.

At Antietam over 22k Americans died in a single day. Finding that hard to believe right now. Maybe it includes injured as well. https://twitter.com/xv40rds/status/1501645677721436166 Casualty is a bracket term for a lot of things, dead, captured, fleed/deserted into MIA or wounded enough to be out of combat, are all casualties. Some news sources seem use it only to describe deaths, which makes numbers in news reporting go all over the place due to misunderstanding. But yeah, the first waves of D-day on the worst beach suffered insanely high casualty % rates, but looking at the total overall numbers of all the beaches it's starting to look more like the russian numbers. (156k soldiers 10k casualties for D-day)
