Some days ago i discovered a group called The Books - Lemon of the Pink, and it probably is some of the best electronic music i have heard since Air or Daft Punk - Discovery.
I havent got a clue about the scene and whats good and whats not.

Can any of you recommend me some good electronis music similar to artists like:

Brian Eno
Air
The books
Moby - Play
Portishead

I also want you to recommend some classical music. Ive gotten tired of the "old" greats and want to hear about some new composers. I very much like soundtracks and especially composers like Hans Zimmer etc.
Music with Lisa Gerrard is great to listen to.

Boards of Canada definately
Squarepusher/Aphex Twin has some nice stuff but alot of their shit is very break/glitchy, it's called Intelligent Dance Music or IDM, which is a horrible name btw.
Autechre is nice but sounds very oldschool.
Covenant is a nice electropop band, but some of their stuff is pretty dark/goth.

If you like the energetic, easy to listen to electronics (I call it matrix music because it's being used in like every modern sci-fi movie) I can recommend Propellerheads, and The Crystal Method.

Susumu Hirasawa, Infected Mushroom, Skinny Puppy are all some of my favorites. And they are rather different from each other, so it really depends on your personality and disposition to who you like among them.

What do you mean by "new" classical? Current people writing in the continuation of the Romantic tradition, creating easily accessible music for the masses (like for movie scores). Any 20th century composer of interest? Minimalist? Neoclassical? Neoromantic? Serialist? Any typical "serious" composer currently alive? You prefer the more experimental or the more traditional? etc.

Thirding boards of canada.

I enjoy this genre towards the more "Minimalist" or "Atmospheric" end of the spectrum. if you're interested in that check out Steve Roach, Lichens, Robert Hood. These are more like Brian Eno and Air, out of the ones you listed, but even more minimal/chilled/laid back. Good music to have on in the background when doing other stuff.

Also for some reason I like the exact opposite of this, really energetic pounding psytrance, for that check out Shpongle and Infected Mushroom.

Also a good band that is electronic plus female vocalizations, no lyrics, is Makyo.

Also I personally don't like aphex twin or squarepusher, but a lot of people who like this genre do.

I found a youtube vid of The Books - Lemon of the pink.
This is one of their best "songs"

It totally relaxes me and gives a good feeling. Check it out!

Since someone mentioned Autechre, I suggest listening to the album "Incunabula" which is probably their best album. The opening track "Kalpol Introl" can also be heard on the π (pi) movie soundtrack.

19th century composers are not alive anymore, lol.

notable contemporary living composers include john adams, john cage, philip glass, and numerous composers for films like john williams, howard shore, hans zimmer, and harry gregson-williams, although many film scores are not very original and plagiarize almost directly from the works of great past composers such as dvorak, brahms, and the like.

schools like juilliard/NEC/cleveland etc all turn out great talented composers each year, but none have really made it "big" like their predecessors have. they're talented and they definitely know how to compose good pieces of music, but their works really aren't very widely performed (with the exception of maybe john mackey, but he writes mostly wind orchestra works).

if you're looking for a list of good 19th/20th century composers, then there's a lot more to choose from.

Guys keep in mind he's asking for stuff that compares to air and daft punk, not for industrial, noise or darkwave :p

I mean I don't think he'll really enjoy sneaker pimps or marilyn manson -_-

* Zero 7 - Any title
* Boards of Canada - Any title
* FSOL (Future Sound of London) - Any title

* Ezekiel Honig - Scattered Practices
* Trente Moller - The Last Resort
* Aphex Twin - Any freakin title
* Daedalus - Anytitle
* Gotan Project - Any title
* William Orbit - Pieces in a Modern Style; Hello Waveforms
* Robert Miles - Dreamland (the sound is very dated, but meh, a classic)
* Thievery Corporation - Mirrior Conspiricy; Cosmic Game [my personal fav of theirs]; Richest Man in Babylon
* Kruder and Dorfmeister - K&D sessions; DJ kicks
* The "Back to Mine" series
* The "Another late night" and more currently "Late night tales" series (which Air infact has a release on, although I have not yet heard it)
* Nick Warren - GU: [Global Underground] Rekjavik; GU: Shanghai; GU: Paris
* GU: [See Above] Afterhours Series

Electronic music is my lifeforce^^ - Please feel free to PM me or AIM [nofAcedAgent] me if you care to discuss it more

EDIT: Beatport.com -> Genre

EDIT EDIT: Im updating the list as more are coming to me, bare with me - And the Genre is kinda stretching a little more with each artist Im adding, but they all fall into the Ambient/Chillout/Louge/Downtempo theme, although a number do lean into the more dancy club type sound but are still great titles with a decidedly atomospheric vibe - which I encourage you to explore [namley Sasha and Nick Warren titles listed]
