Capital punishment should be banned. I am all for harsh punishments for crimes though.

I love how oBlade thinks the US has not been doing public executions on tv in the past 100 years because 'you can't put certain mature content on public airways'. And not at all because we as a society believe we have developed past the town square hanging as a form of amusement.
Also the internet being full of violence is fucked up and will produce more and more people completely desensitised to violence who will do increasingly violence shit to other people. Its a wonderful self feeding cycle.
The world is not a better place because people can jerk of to drone war footage from Ukraine before bed.

Crusader boy Hegseth seemed to get off when announcing it. Absolutely disgusting. To the assholes defending this shit, not having public executions is what keeps us from being "the Hassans" in this world.
You got some 09/11 conspirators left in jail, you could line one up each week prime time, you bloodthirsty pigs.

Mass media standards are different. The more people you reach, I mean compare the way you speak to your friend to the way the news anchor speaks.

Its a wonderful self feeding cycle. That's fine to believe but one US execution is not tipping the scales on that. If you think one public execution compares with all the violence on the entire internet, you are seriously exaggerating somewhere.

The world is better that people can see the reality of war.
And access to violent media, whether intentional or not, probably has served to vicariously satisfy the worse demons in our society to a greater extent than it has encouraged them. Otherwise you go down the road of Counter Strike causing school shootings.
For your Ukraine example, if you start publicizing enough executions of drone operators they might have a meeting and decide to stop blowing up guys who are wounded or waving white flags. As wrong as that might be on all sides. It would probably work.
That said, obviously blowing up a wounded guy with an FPV drone is different than the state executing a mass murder convict.

Like all right wing bullshit, it's all a combination of stupidity, cruelty and false bravado.
Folks here who already exhibit these qualities are obviously trying to find justifications for it as they do for all the stupid, cruel shit that this administration does.
Unfortunately, since they all lack basic understanding of the world, religion, history and humans in general, it's all pretty stupid to read through.

Because yeah, you know, public executions on the internet are not disturbing at all and a totally decent and normal thing to do. Doesn’t make you look like Isis or something.
I know we live in an era of ultrapartisanship where people’s brains shut off when their tribe is involved, but one has to be a real cunt to not be appalled by that clown. Just literally Ideocracy I have no doubt Hegseth legit thinks this will boost their rating. Bread and Games. Except they keep forgetting the bread part somehow. Next step: Firing squad is boring. Why not have him fight a hungry bear for his life. 100 Ducks! Please leave the animals out of this! I'm for gladiatorial combat and who deals the sentence shall wield the sword.
Edit: Considering the world famous botched execution of Christa Pike this week, a public firing squad is probably the most humane they can do right now.

Not just the internet when you think about a bunch of cartoons that run or used to run on tv. It's a bit different when you see stuff like that as adult. You can differentiate.
The US didn't yet have to deal with difficulties or collapses from having an authoritarian government with violent policies like Germany. Mostly because it still applies them with enough selectivity.

That's the thing about rightism in general. There are certain questions that are subjective, like is "a zygote a human being?" or "is human gender mutable?" whose answers can differ depending on how you define a certain word, and because there is no final authority to define words, it's possible for those arguments to go on indefinitely. Then there are questions of fact, like "is Saddam Hussein making nuclear weapons?" or "is rapid climate change caused by human-emitted greenhouse gases?" that do have an objective answer. And right-wingers are always wrong about those when they're politicized because they trust religion, intuition, and the personal charisma of their leaders/influencers over science.
"Should we execute religious-extremist terrorists?" is an issue that dips into both of those areas a little bit. "Do human beings have an inalienable right to life that is only forfeited when they're an active physical danger to others?" is a subjective question because it depends on what you consider a "right" to be. "Do Islamic extremists think it's fucking awesome to get killed by a firing squad of infidels?" is a question with an objective answer. But if right-wingers squabble about the former moral question more than the latter objective question it doesn't seem like their position is quite as stupid.

If it wasn't so funny, it would be sad.
Just looked up other countries with this wonderful tradition:
Iran: Judicial executions are carried out in public spaces, usually by hanging. North Korea: Public executions are reported to occur by firing squad or hanging for various offenses. Somalia: Local and military courts occasionally carry out public executions. Afghanistan: The Taliban administration has conducted public executions in sports stadiums or public squares.
Soo, I guess, under all this frankly stupid rhetoric and very flawed reasoning, the real reason is the age old "if you can't beat them, join them".
