JD Vance was the highest-ranking Trump administration participant in the Signal text group that discussed detailed plans about the recent US military strike on Yemen. While the vice-president has typically marched in lockstep with President Donald Trump in his public comments on foreign policy, in the private discussions he said that he thought the administration was making a “mistake” by taking military action. He noted that the targeted Houthi forces posed a larger threat to European shipping, while the danger to American trade was minimal.“I am not sure the president is aware how inconsistent this is with his message on Europe right now,” Vance wrote, according to Atlantic Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg. Well hey so long as it’s only European shipping that’s threatened, not like they’re allies or anything like that. Not that I’m advocating, or otherwise on policy in this scenario, it’s something I know very little about. I just find the specific rationale of objection here kinda instructive.

I don't even mind they are using signal to share information.. but a) they "akthualy" drink the kool-aid of how US protects the world... and not just their own interests into having unhindered market access to the richest industrialized countries in the world.. b) Fuck the murderous sandpeople.. but my god, just killing them to do a show of force is so beyond cynical

This was confirmed every single time we've had communication leaks from key figures in that movement. For decades the US had a ton of propaganda aimed at plebs with messaging like that, and now it is being led by people that took it at face value.

If you were to listen to what the high ranking people in the administration are saying, they appear to be pro-Russia and anti-Europe. However, they are still in alot of respects acting like allies of Europe and enemies of Russia. Its going to be an interesting few years.

Hopefully, the next time WarThunder is in the news over leaking secrets, they will mention not using Signal or sharing actual war plans.

Also Clinton's Pied Piper thing is a pretty big exception that also helped make Trump president. What is the charge of this Pied Piper thing? It seems to read much like the various campaigns were somewhat blindsided by Trump at every new hurdle he cleared, and thought he’d be a lock to beat in a Presidential. Which, to be fair, most of us were thinking at the time. “I admit to being suckered into every narrative that predicted Trump’s demise over and over,” said Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy, a Clinton ally. “I admittedly was a pretty consistent skeptic that they were ultimately going to nominate this buffoon, so I probably came to the realization that he was the nominee as late as anybody." “I was in denial for a very long time,” added former Vermont Governor Howard Dean, the one-time presidential candidate and DNC chair. “I tell people I was wrong for 52 weeks in a row starting in June.” That aside it seems a bit rich to simultaneously be digging up the failings of the 2016 campaign, and sidestepping awkward questions on 2024 with a ‘we have to move on folks, what are we doing now?’ I’ve no issues with either but be consistent on this at least.

Using things like Signal will surely seep down into matters that should be acceptable targets for FOIA requests, but unless a journalist is sitting in the corner eating snacks at the party while taking screenshots, we'll never hear anything about it.

And yet to me that isn't even the worst thing of this "scandal".

You skipped the point where before denying and verbally attacking, they already admitted that it was true. Brian Hughes, the spokesman for the National Security Council, responded two hours later, confirming the veracity of the Signal group. “This appears to be an authentic message chain, and we are reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain,” Hughes wrote. “The thread is a demonstration of the deep and thoughtful policy coordination between senior officials. The ongoing success of the Houthi operation demonstrates that there were no threats to troops or national security.” (From the Atlantic article)

You don‘t hear Putin complaining about US nazis like he did with Ukrainian ones. The US needs the rest of the world turning fascist too or they‘ll have an image problem at home. That‘s why they fund right wing extremists in Europe imo. The morons who play along don‘t realize that it‘d make them into targets. It‘s literally the most antipatriotic thing they can do. The Serbians turning into warmongering nationalists is a good example of how that would work out for the bomb dealers. Trump‘s agenda is to bring discord into the European union. Along with dark money and drugs, but that‘s just a theory of mine. Of course he loves crypto. He also paid the protection money to Boeing already with a contract. As for brickhead, you don‘t need 9 bodyguards when you know you‘re not doing bad shit.
