concentrate on your studies and be wise about how you use your time. It is ok to play some SC as long as you make sure you get your work done. Do well in school and then go to a good college. You will then have many more opportunities available to you.
you are only 16 and your interests, priorities and so much more will undoubtedly change. But if you do well in school, then you will put yourself in a good situation in whatever you want to do.
Actually my business professor had a pretty nice speech today about things you want in life. Basically, what he said was; "The most valuable thing in life is time, since you cant get time back. You will always be able to get money/house/jobs/etc back. You will never get time back, so when you have something you want, you try and get it, otherwise you will regret one thing after the other... Remember to have fun bla bla..."
cant really quote it but its more or less the same-,-
okey first.. unistall starcraft and give someone the cd and tell them to never give it back to you. Try to find other things to do while you are on the computer.. (like look for jobs)
Second.. get a job. Find out first what kind of job you want. Deliver out applications personally, and check in on them if you dont hear anything. Also do some resarch about the job your applying for, so you can look good at the interview =) Dress normal when your at an interview and try to be smiling\outgoing.
And dont give up! I looked a long time for a new job when the place i had been working at closed our division t.t But keep trying and you will get one.
3rd.. get more in touch with your friends and find other hobbies than starcraft. Start going out more. Try to be outgoing. Smiling. Also getting a girfriend is a good idea.. if you dont have one It sertanly is a starcraft killer ^^
If the only sport you do is braking.. maybe try to find other sports as well. Maybe a team sport so you can get more friends etc.. and a sport that has regular competitions and trainings, so that it will keep you bissy = also a starcraft killer =P
So: uninstall starcraft, get a job, see you friends more\gf, sports.. Dont just sit inside waiting for something to happen. In most cases it wont -_- You need to be out there taking part of stuff, try to be\think posetive. I know its all general stuff.. but if you really want to change you can. Just dont go half the way.. you need to commit
As for school, the most important thing is that your happy with what you are studying at it interest you. If what your studying is just "okey" you should switch. Either subject or school. If poosible. You will never be able to finish anything that dosent appeal to you. And just drifting sux.. Talking with subject advisers\others help too =P

don't take the easy way out, don't be lazy. focus and study. if you have problems in school, consider that you might have a learning disability. a lot of people don't realize they have a learning disability, and think that they are just lazy or procrastinate, until it is too late. you might have any number of things like adhd, dyslexia, etc.
Seem like you the hip hop culture and want to be in it(clothings, career, etc)
However making a living as a grafitti artist (or clothes designer) is difficult, yet very few are successful.Yet you dont need to disband this goal or love for it. Take steps by steps!
You want clothings. You got no money. Get a job. Most of the time there are decent jobs with decent wages. Go find a job at a fast-food restaurant, library, etc. You might have a chance to meet people with same intrest as you. Even though your job doesnt relate hip-hop anyway, just think about the money you going to get.. you can buy ur bape shoe/hoody with 2 week pay. Oh and becareful someone might rob your bapes. (there are many bape alternatives)
Everyone say every kid should go to school. You dont have to go to school but I totally recommend you to continue school and give effort on it. Put a bit time of study there. If you continue with school and finally to college... you have more alternative. Many colleges and univesities have breakdance/hiphop clubs(I'm in my uni's). You can join and learn more about it. That will be a dumb reason to join college right? you're wrong! It gives you many, many options for you to chooose in the future. Maybe you become a business manager and somehow manage a clothing biz like bape, stussy, etc. Going to college or working hard in school doesn't mean you can't participate in the hip hop culture or becoming what you want( well, especially in this case ).

You all want to be successful and achieve something through your studies but is that really what you want? or are you scared away because it may be shallow or have no benefit or logical priority besides what you have to do? He wants to be himself and not impress other people. If that means spending absurd amounts of money on shoes and working at KFC all his life let him do it if that is what he truly enjoys. We all act out on things we truly enjoy. This is the samething except you are all too selfcentered to really understand the similarities. Let him do what he wants and quit calling him a poser. If a homosexual comes out of the closet and says he wants to live a new lifestyle one he finds he can be more of himself are we all going to tell him to go and study?
god., thank you for understanding, but of course im not gona work at kfc all my life, im planing on a career in art.
all you guys are totaly not geting the point of this post, i was expecting advice concerning how to start off, not on your opinions how to live my life.
ive already decided i dont like wasting my life studying for a good school so i can get a good job like lawyer or doctor. ill hate that... if being rich / succesful with stuydies is the point of life... then whats the point of living?
i just wanna go to a decent art school and do something i love
and also im not trying to be a poser,. im actually posing to be something im not right now what i change into will be something thats me
do you think i am thinking and wanting a little too much for someone so young? or do you cheer me on?
You may think and want to much, but who doesn't? The final result are only going to effect you and the people around you.
keep your dream big. but dont let the dream crush you. step by step, you will reach closer. if fail, why not try again. just dont jepeordize your future life.
also to the people who are saying i ahve a learning disablity or saying omfg get a life find a job:::
im trying in school enough to get into a decent college
i have a 3.3 gpa right now so its not like im some failure dropout person who quit on school
i just hate school having to be the priority
ive already gone out everywhere geting job applications so im not that lazy and in my post it may seem like im some geeknerd and stay home all day everyday and rot in my computer chair.. thats not the case... and of course i play sports im very athletic.
x_woof_x, my advice would be to simply go to downtown LA and learn the city. Find all the artsy places, and meet people. Live in the city. You won't learn anything about art in the suburbs or with your parents.
Frequent clothing stores you find interesting and get to know the owners (maybe they'll hire you?). Don't buy Bape. Bape is over priced with terrible quality -- the only people who still buy it are ignorant rich white people from the suburbs. Supreme, Alife, Marihashi, and Nike are some good brands.
Immerse yourself in the online culture as well. Hypebeast.com is a pretty good website for clothing and shoes, and there are a host of others that are similar. Superfuture.com will teach you how to dress (pay attention to MilSpex when he posts, that mother fucker knows his shit) and which brands are good and which are shit.
And most importantly, if you really want some cred, you have to be good at what you do. If you want to be a good graffiti artist, just do it all the fucking time. In notebooks, on buildings -- whatever. Just do it. Look at what other people do, and take some tip from their work (remember, every artist steals a technique some time).
Lastly, obviously school can seem pointless, but don't give it up completely. You gotta at least scrape by with C's, or your opportunities really will shrink drastically. You can still get hip with the in crowd and have C's. It's not very difficult. Also, take art classes. They are incredibly useful, especially considering they are free. Since you're interested in graffiti, I would recommend drawing and printmaking.
just look at school as a vehicle for you to attain what you want to in the long run. School itself may suck harcore for many people, but as posters have mentioned, it opens up a lot of opportunities that wouldnt be there otherwise, and really makes life that much easier for you
Look I'm not gonna read this, but you said some shit about hip-hop and fashion. I think that's your problem. Get some Megadeth and maybe you'll turn out ok.
unfashionable person/no job / plays starcraft all day/ -->
----> dresses nice, especially nice shoes, / have a good job to buy clothes that i cant afford/ know how to do graffiti art/ immerse myself into the community which i would love to be in which are the bboys the sneakerheads, clothe designers.
First thing you should change in your life is this list...
"dresses nice, especially nice shoes" - and what really stops you from doing that now?
"have a good job to buy clothes that i cant afford" - wrong reason to get a job and there's shitload of clothes that are nice and stuff and don't cost a fortune.
"know how to do graffiti art" - geez, just check out the web for some graffitti, buy spraycans and start off with testing it on the walls in your own room, as simple as that (my friend learned this way, but he also learned tattooing on himself so I'm not sure if he was completely sane).
"immerse myself into the community which i would love to be in which are the bboys the sneakerheads, clothe designers." - bboys: breakdancing skills/knowledge required; sneakerheads: WTF?!?! It's similar to becoming goth/emo which is bad, very bad; clothe designers - for that you need either immense imagination combined with plastic skills and figuring the way to show yourself/your work and/or some really good school that teaches such stuff finished.
Your list should look more like:
unfashionable person/no job/plays starcraft all day/ --> self confident person trying to learn some useful stuff and socialize some more with others instead of spending whole day in front of the computer.
Personally I like my life, I've had some ups and downs but it was all good experience. I didn't seriously think about even getting a job until this year (I'm 24 and still wouldn't think seriously about a job if not the fact that I'm happily engaged for 2 months now), I got myself a bunch (quite a bunch) of good friends so that I always have someone to hang up with, I like to socialize and I'll choose going out with friends over computer 90% of the time, I'm at home maybe 3 days/week etc. etc. etc. Enough of this boring facts, the point is:
ALL YOU REALLY NEED IS SOME SELF CONFIDENCE AND TO ACKNOWLEDGE YOURSELF AS YOU ARE AND BE HAPPY WITH IT.
Posing would be considered doing something you don't especially want to in order to fit in with a crowd. Since this is something you want to do and conformism doesn't seem to be an issue, this is just you having goals and wanting to legitimately change yourself. There's nothing wrong with it.
As far as what you need to do, the first thing is to end this bullshit about you not knowing what to do. You know better than anyone else what you need to do. I'm not saying this just because I don't know what you should do. The worlds of fashion, graffiti art, etc. are alien to me. You, however, at the very least have interest. And from experience, that is more than enough to know how to pursue something. At this point in life everything is confusing, but you have to come to terms first with the fact that you know full well what to do next, and the only thing that's stopping you from doing it is a lack of balls.
Balls are composed of courage, initiative and callousness. You most likely won't obtain them regardless of the fact that you know what they look like. This is the nature of lack of balls- a good understanding of what needs to be done, but an inability to complete the task. The majority of people in every-day society lack them.
Well that's basically my message to you. You know what needs to be done, there's no reason to ask anyone else.
That being said, you also need to realize (if you haven't already) that you are a high-schooler, and therefore a fool. Because you are automatically handicapped by stupidity, it would take some huge balls to give away the safety of options (the path on which you're currently trudging along). The balance of balls vs safety is something everyone will struggle with for the rest of their lives.
I also want to change my life. Right now, I am a university student in a program (Biochemistry) that I don't really like but I'm doing because I have no other passions in life. I plan on going into medicine because I really don't have a clue about what else I should do. I have nothing to complain about, I have a roof over my head (which is more than what some people have in this cruel world), good friends, and, basically, a good life.
Yet... I'm come to the conclusion that life is pointless, meaningless, and that I'm just a waste of carbon. Well, maybe not a complete waste, I am increasing the entropy of the universe thereby hastening the predicted heat death future (or something like that).
Tell me, how can I change from an emo philosopher who can't live without crying over nothing into a happy person who has found a calling in life?
NOTE: I've found that I can only remain happy around other people because they take up my thought process and prevent me from digging my own philosophical graves.
I didn't think everyone would go so harsh on the guy.
Anyway, here's what I have to say x_woof_x:
I'm 18 and Korean American like you. This is what I think of your situation: Yes, you can do a lot of things RIGHT now to fix your problem with yourself being a boring person playing sc and not having a job and what not. All that is not too much of a problem so don't worry dude. As soon as I was 16 I was sent out to find a job and start paying for everything for myself. Car, insurance, gas, lunch, anything I wanted outside of necessities. It was a good experience, and I think you should go through the same. School is important no matter how much you think it's bs and shouldn't be the point of your life. Anyway, I'm following what most of the other posters said so I'll stop here.
As for the hip-hop thing. I don't think you understand hip-hop. In no way am I saying I am the hip-hop guru or whatever but here's what I'll tell you I know about the entire culture. The best way to define it comes from a quote from bboy Lilou from France.
" That's the beauty of this combining of all these different cultures and countries, because it shows the world what real hip-hop is. Because a lot of people think that real hip-hop is gangster music or black or white or arabic or religious. Nah, real hip-hop doesn't discriminate. Real hip-hop is all cultures put together in one. It's peace, unity, love, and having fun under the oneness of god, no matter what god you pray to. "
In our world there are four elements of hip hop. Breaking, Mixing, Graffitti, and the Mic. Hip-hop is not something you can just become whenever you'd like. It's something you live. There are plenty of people who have hip-hop as an integral part of their life, but they still go to school. They are not defined about what they wear or what they look like but hip-hop is a part of their lifestyle.
I think rather than you doing all that nonsense stuff it's better for you to pick up a hobby that will have people who have hip-hop personalities [ some of which are good role models ] and allow you to become a part of the culture as well. Don't try too hard.
Well, what I'd definitely say is don't try to be something your not in order to make life more interesting. You're going to come to a point where you realize that you're living a lie if you do that. If you want to make life more interesting, I'd say find something you love and pursue it. We all have things that we WANT to do or passions that we WANT to pursue, but don't for one reason or another. For the longest time, I wanted to really pursue music, but I always had this uneasiness about it. As a Korean, you know how Korean parents feel about their children for the most part. My parents wanted me to be a doctor or a lawyer. They had already freaked when I told them I wanted to be a teacher so I decided not to push it further than that, but there was always that longing. My life at the time was also not so much different from the way you seem to be describing yours. I won't say "study and get a good job" or "focus on your future", because that's not what life is about. Finding that one thing that satisfies you and pursuing that is all that you will ever need in life. Today, I am a majoring in music and sound engineering and even though it's a financial struggle for me, I honestly could not be happier.
I know at times, it may seem unrealistic or perhaps even childish in a world where it seems like you can only get by if you focus on getting a "good job", but the reality is really very different from the way most people think. If you feel you have potential in something, go after it and be the best that you can possibly be at it. You only get one chance at life so live it.
first of all, sc is not a good way to spend ur time studying for tests/homework. find another hobby, even if its not the best for u. for me, i watch tv more often instead then going on myspace, teamliquid, etc for 2 hours. then i start my homework and i often take naps.
its good thinking of the future though, nobody wants to be a middle class citizen
