As far as I know, this is still an open question in the field (there hasn't been a ton of research on cannabis, for political reasons), but I would rate my confidence in the claim I made at about 90%. My confidence in the claim in the specific case of heroin I would rate much higher, because I remember this distinctly (about the time I learned this fact, there was a heroin overdose on my campus, and taking the drug in an unfamiliar situation played a role in this kid's death, because when you take heroin in a familiar situation your body expects it and compensates ahead of time, meaning that your normal dose will be an overdose in an unfamiliar situation).
