so anyone have any suggestions?(for good classical music)
i realy have no idea where to begin looking.

i should also mention that i have played guitar religiosly for many many years. its not like im picking up guitar for the first time to learn classical.

i just dont know of any composers besides the obviouse ones bathoven etc.

If you mean classical music actually written for guitar, the only one I've ever heard in concert (although I'm not a guitar person at all) is Britten's Nocturnal after John Dowland, which is quite difficult yet very nice. Not many composers wrote for guitar, you know. Here is an incomplete list on Wikipedia, but as you can see, there's not really that much. And most of the pieces from the 20th century I'd imagine to be quite difficult.

In the case of arrangements, just go to your typical online music store, but then again, you can never tell with arrangements how good it's going to be.

edit: Actually, since you mention Pachabel Canon in D, you probably mean arrangements. Oh yeah, and probably you'd want to start with an etude book or two--IIRC classical guitar techniques are a different world of guitar playing...right?

And that'd be happy 100 b-day for Shostakovich too.

I have seen at least 10 concerts for classical guitar, even whole concerto pieces. Guitar probably doesn't have an extensive list of players from older eras, but as for the 20th and 21st century, guitar composers are probably up there in variety and amount. There are MANY composers for classical guitar these days.

Like above said, classical guitar is hard to learn... That's why you see so many rockers and guys who go electric, because there is less skill (relatively speaking) to play an electric guitar.

difficulty shouldnt be an issue.

I probably should've mentioned that I wouldn't go see a classical guitar concert and that I heard the Britten piece at a chamber music concert, and I don't like chamber music anyway so I infrequently go to those. That should explain the lack of classical guitar exposure. edit: I didn't mean to imply that classical guitar is that rare nowadays. >_>

But yeah, you can really see the explosion in guitar music and composers on the Wikipedia list. Being ignorant of guitar music, I'd bring up the Wikipedia list of selected standard contemporary repertoire here as a representation of what somebody or somebodies consider worthwhile. Beats me though, sorry.

this isnt exactly what you asked for but it might help you. this is the online stream of a local radio station that plays all classical music. they have really good songs and they tell you the names of them. http://www.wmht.org/radio/wbkk.php --> click Listen Live.

If you're just looking for classical music pieces arranged for a single guitar, I've compiled together a few of my favorite here. You'll need the Powertab software - http://www.power-tab.net/

Johann Sebastian Bach

Prelude No. VI
http://www.powertabs.net/tablature.php?id=6876
Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring
http://www.powertabs.net/tablature.php?id=3335
Cello Suite in D Major (BWV 1007) Prelude 1
http://www.powertabs.net/tablature.php?id=13023

Leo Kottke - Bourrée
http://www.powertabs.net/tablature.php?id=23018

Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade of Pale
http://www.powertabs.net/tablature.php?id=21865

Erik Satie - Mymnopedie #1
http://www.powertabs.net/tablature.php?id=4945

Also, the Classical section of AcousticPower.com has plenty of classical pieces arranged for a single guitar.

Yeah, Powertabs are 100% free. I use both GuitarPro and Powertabs since only one of the programs will often have a tab i'm looking for.

Guitarpro has a nice feature though - you can convert Powertabs into Guitarpro tabs using the File->Import->Powertab.

So, just download the powertabs, and convert them over to Guitarpro tabs, and you're all set!
