OP post http://en.lichess.org/ in links. For me, this is the best site on internet for playing chess. Nice interface, chess variants, like Fisher random chess, and registration without mail. The best site!

Absolutely tactics and endgame first (and thought process)

As for free resources, there are many youtube channels on chess, but my favorite is the St.Louis Chess Club.

Lectures done by Ben Finegold and Varuzhan Akobian seemed best for me. Finegold's lectures are on many different topic, while Akobian's are more going over his own games types.

Chess.com has a study plan that could be helpful

I didn't know chess.com had free videos because it kept asking me to get premium haha. Looks like a lot of good study material. Thanks!

As for the videos on Chess.com, I think in order to view them fully, you have to get premium membership. Non-members only get like a 3 minute preview of what otherwise would be 30min videos, which is nothing.

Looking at it a bit further, you're right. Only one series (Everything you need to know..) seems to be available entirely. Still good reading material in there

I always use https://chess24.com/ nowadays, great interface for the games, and live stream
I especially love Jan Gustafsson and Lawrence Trent as commentators, like the Tastosis of chess.
Too bad they are not commentating Tata Steel

Carlsen's streak ends at 6 wins! Quick draw today.

Upside: he is now analyzing live here: https://chess24.com/en/watch/live-tournaments/tataSteelMasters2015/10/1/4

Yes, a downside to a correspondence tournament I guess. It takes so long to finish that it's hard to pay attention to it once you are out early. And games being decided by timing out is unfortunate part of the correspondence that also takes some "seriousness" out of the competition. But this tourney was never meant to be anything super competitive anyway.

And indeed the 6 month tournament came to an end at last.
Congrats to Tenna for 1st place!
I hope the top 3 finishers like the custom trophies!

I'll try to join the next TL chess.com tournament. I'm a bit rusty, but was 2200 ELO back in the days...

This is something random, but I was reading this blog by jkillashark ( http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/386209-annotating-a-chess-game), and I found something interesting, but I didn't want to bump the super old blog, so I'm writing it here.

(Extremely funny moment here. O'Flaherty has less than 5 minutes on his clock. I didn't say check very loud so he plays Rxh7 thinking it was checkmate. It's illegal since his king is still in check.)

You know according to touchmove rule, jkillashark could have (or should have?) made his opponent block the check with his rook, giving him a free rook and a win!

Offline... but that was way back when I was in high school and had lots of time...

Now I'm just playing blitz and bullet online, coach chess, and blog about it.
