Usually quicker due to there beeing less text.
They explained it in the start of this run, english version is 9 minutes quicker gameplay wise, but there's 19 more minutes of text. So it's 10 minutes slower to use the english version.

Less text. It usually has some other things added/removed, but that usually has a smaller impact than the text.

Usually it's because there's less text in the Japanese version, since each character means more than in English. However, that's not always the case, such as with sm64.
