Baumgartner has the highest and lowest basejump height records, did incredible things in his career and sure doesn't fear jumping in any kind. He knows how to react in emergency situations, and I don't think a "newbie" base jumper could say that of himself or pull it off, without risking himself. But maybe a basejumper could give us insight, I'm just speculating myself. | ||

For the first part of his jump he will be in almost true free fall with hardly any atmospheric drag so he will attain speeds that are not possible in a normal atmospheric jump (air resistance creates a terminal velocity, stopping gravity from accelerating you further) so his body will be put through its paces in a way it isn't normally. He can't breathe up there either, you need a pressure suit to do that so I believe he will be pre-breathing before the jump and holding his breath until he gets to breathable air, don't quote me on that one tho.... Hes basically just pushing the limits of human endurance, trying to prove a concept... that it is possible to jump from that high and higher and landing safely at the end of it. He will be travelling a huge distance during the fall, not just the downwards distance but also across the plane of the planet... it should be interesting to say the least. | ||

Space starts somewhere between 80km and 100 km (depends on who you asks). Felix is "just" jumping from ~37 km. | ||
